Ok, let us get down to it. This is again another license game that takes what we come to know and love, expecting a game that delivers the true essence of aliens versus predator, and creates a game that is a cheap way of taking our money. Yes, I bought this game and now I regret ever handing the money over to the cashier.

Upon bringing the game home I played all three campaigns and spent three hours just telling a little person to walk and shoot. That is not an RTS!!! The game did not show any excitement or rush of innovation. Don't dive on this side of the game pool because it is on the shallow end.

I only played the first levels of predator and marine campaigns and soon was was put to sleep because I have A)played other RTS's similar or B)nothing to it.

The aliens was the only highlight to this game as it was interest to create your own hive but I was quick to find that it was nothing more than one level of fun. The rest of the levels reach a level of stupid and boring.

Rent this game only, unless you love any RTS or you can't get enough of the franchise.

Nice start, but could use some upgrades

This game has an incredible foundation in place to build an even better game on. If it had spent another few months in the tank getting tweaks and having some more depth added to it, it could have been stunning.

The game that this mostly resembles is not Warcraft, but the seminal Command & Conquer series, though with these graphics, AI, unit choices and relative game play, only the earlier incarnations. I would have liked more unit types, higher caps, larger maps, a skirmish mode (campaign only? What's that?!) and maybe a tweak or two on the controls. The push-the-stick-and-circle-to-select-troops was suspect at best, and C&C already has a perfect way to do it: just make a square and capture the units you want to use, no guesswork. Even the original PS version can do that.

All in all, a good idea and not a wholly bad game, but I hope they take some cues from a franchise that does it right and come back to this. They're really on the verge of making a wholly good game here, just not with these flaws. Give us a "Part 2" to this and make these slight changes and you're gold.

FUN BUT COULD BE BETTER

IT IS FUN BUT IT IS HARD AND FRUSTRATING BECAUSE YOUR ENEMYS ARE TOUGH AND THE CONTROLS SUCK BUT THERES LOTS OF ACTION AND ITS FUN TO BULID AN ARMY ESPECIALLY WITH THE ALIENS. IWOULD RECOMEND RENTING IT FIRST

Good game but seems to be lacking features

I loved this game. It did very well for a RTS on a console. One thing it needed was a skirmish or a multiplayer mode. Since it lacks these options, it's replay value ends after you beat the campaign. The campaign missions were quite challenging on hard. A good game, but you should probolly rent it before you buy it.

Wish it had been on computer

I thought that this game was great. it did need more missions and a multiplayer mode. But the game really needed to be on computer like most stragey games. over all the game was not worth that i spent 50 bucks. I should have waited for it to go down or read a review first. But it really should have been on computer. overall the price on amazon is what i should have paid but is anyone came out with a starship troopers game following this type of line i think it would be worth decent money.

Good #1 attempt at a RTS game for the PS2

First off, don't compare this game to warcraft. If you do, you will see the flaws & won't like it as much. This game is good. There are 3 different races. Aliens, Predators, & marines. They each have 10 units & upgradable weapons. Each race has positives & negatives. IE. You can create 45 aliens, but because aliens don't have ranged attacks they can get slaughtered every easily. Strength in numbers couldn't be a truer statement. The humans are good, but if you lose you commtech (leader & mechanic) you will fail the mission. You must also keep your medic alive so he can heal the troops. The predators are the most powerfull & have the best gadgets. But they are small in numbers. You can only have 4 at a time. Weapons include, pulse rifles, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, exosuits, hand guns, Flame throwers & sentry guns.. Ofcourse these are the weapons for the marines.. The predators have stealth laser attacks & depending on what type of predator you use other attacks. IE disk master, spear master.

The best part of the game is having face huggers impregnating people & predators. Yes predtors. The hybrid Alien/predator looks cool & has attributes of both races. The environments are bland & drab looking. Alot look the same no matter what mission you are on. The sad thing is there isn't any FMV & cut screens even when you complete all 7 missions with a race. Each mission has a target time limit. If you pass all 21 missions. You get cheats for the code. Medals are awarded after a player finishes a mission before the target time limit expires. The game is challenging. It takes strategy to win.. But what makes this game tougher is the dumb AI. Sometimes a few characters stray from the pack & get killed by oncoming Aliens or Predators. This [stinks]. I wish the creators spent more time creating a good AI. The sound is fantastic!! Every sound effect in the game is taken from the actually films. This really adds realism to the game. The average gamer might not like this game, especially if they are looking for a great RTS game. But hardcore AVP fans will love this game..

Should have been a shooter version

I haven't played this game yet but it should have been made has a shooter version like AvP and Avp2 for pc. If fox interactive decides to make Avp3 they should be a shooter version and for both pc and Playstion 2.

This is a great RTS game for the PS2.
The graphics are great, the sound is great, and the game play is great. But for $40 I want more in a game(I rented the game). A two player would be really nice and online play would be a lot better. Or a skirmish mode.

You can play as either the Aliens, Predators, and the weak little humans.

Aliens:

I play as the Aliens most of the time because they are well rounded, and I like attacking in numbers (Predator is also very fun). You have the queen Alien to lay the eggs, and other Aliens (such as drones, warriors and runners) to attack and kill the enemy and if you want you order them to drag the bodies back to the eggs. When the egg knows there a body is there the egg will hatch a face hugger and you know what happens after that.
I max out the number of units that I can have and attack the enemy in numbers, or if you use the master cheat code you can track the enemy movements.

HINT: Find the master cheat code .... and use it, now track the enemy movements, when the enemy is coming for you move out swing around them, come from 6 O'clock, kill them all then drag thier bodies to the face huggers.

Predator:

Playing as the Predators is very fun. Instead of just killing for points, the Predators tear the skulls from their enemy for honor points. The Predators have the best units in the game (strongest in the game) but the most units you get is 24, that alright but just don't go into a battle claws slicing and laser blasters a blasting.
HINT: Use the master cheat code, now track your enemies movements, if they are coming for you move out, wait until they are alone and kill them one by one.

Marines.

I played through one mission and quit the next one, the Marines are easily taken out because they are weakest units in the game.

This game could have used a online play option, that would have been a real plus for this game.

Its going to take you a while to finish a mission, so its not for the fast paced - finish a game in five minutes kind of gamer.

For those of you who played on the PC but now are playing on the PS2, XBOX, or GB, you can't compare the control inerface of the PC with the one of a PS2 or any platform because a keyboard have 106 keys on it, a platform have 16, so its going to be hard to learn all the controls to RTS games. It's a real surprize that anyone makes RTS games for the platforms (PS2 ans so on).

PROS:
Great graphics
Great sound
Huge levels
Great A.I.
Very fun to play as Predator
Very fun to play as Alien

CONS:
No two player
No online play
Steep price for what you get
Playing as the marines is not very fun
Over 2MB to save a game
It needs a skirmish mode.

So to close this review I just need to say this game was almost perfect. If you are RTS fan the PS2 game "Conflict Zone" is a must buy!

As good as it gets...

First off I'd like to say the AI really is not that bad if you keep half an eye on your troop movement. Yes units do take unexpected turns and do some stupid things but I think all the criticism about the AI is overdone.

Second, what the heck do you expect from a RTS console game? Common folks, get real. There is no way a console RTS can EVER come close to a PC RTS (i.e. "Conflict Zone") so lets be realistic in our expectations of this game. To judge it by PC standards simply is not realistic or fair. If your angry that it doesnt mesure up to PC standards than you must be a.) a fool b.) a novice that has never played "RTS" games on console units before.

I beleive 'Extinction' accomplishes what it sets out to perform and does so very nicely. The game play is solid and addictive. There is a great deal of diversity in units and weaponry. The graphics are very nice (background graphics as rather bland though) and the sound is excellent.

I was disappointed that there is only the campagin game option available. I was hoping for online play or at least a "skirmish" setting.

...if you like the AvP genre you'll like this game!
