A new respect for the ant.

While I happened to play the SNES version of SimAnt many years ago, I still think fondly back on it. The game is like none other. You cringe when the lawn mower is coming, you despise those mercilious red ants when they come and take your eggs away. It gave me a new respect for the noble ant (yes, I said noble) and the tribulations from it's own kind and of the huge human giants that happen to inhabit it's world. Let's not even mention the spiders that roam around and the occasional rain shower. A truly original game that is both fun and educational!

Why wasn't it updated

Most of your reviewers agree that Simant is a fantastic `game` - I don't say game, because it is an educational program that gives players an insight into ant life - their life and problems. I've been happily playing it in its original DOS mode for years - it's my favourite game. Trouble is that now I've updated my computer SimAnt won't run. It's like losing a member of the family. Come on someone - update Simant to work under Windows XP and make a fortune - it's irresistable. Best SIM going.

OMG this game is so cool. I feel sooo evil when a kill all the red ants...hahahah heh. Anyway, it's such a cute little game, and amazingly entertaining.Very interesting. Something fun to play on a cold, rainy day, or a hot, humid day for that matter!!! Sorry I got carried away. Interesting and comes to show there is a PC game for virtually everything!! Hehe!

This game is very very fun. You can live the life of ants, which I've always wanted to do! You can fight the red ants, spiders and ant lions. Collect food to keep your colony alive (especially your queen!). Play differnt game modes and explore different environments! I love this game, try it!

I remember playing Sim Ant when I was a kid. It was a load of fun, and for its age and time, I thought it was a brilliant and outstanding game. Now, it didn't help me pass biology in high school or even zoology in college, but it did help pass the hours of boredom. Basically, for such a low price, it will grab your kids attention.

Basically, you are a yellow ant in a coliny of black ants and you are trying to rid the yard of the red ants and run the humans out of their house.
Or, you can play expiremental mode, where you can do almost ANYTHING you want!(bombard the yard with food, make ants, make walls, rocks etc.)
Maxis should make a "sim ant 2", with more yards (and possibly have something special in the doghouse, such as, mabey, a dog?)

Played sim ant back in the day.

I haven't played sim ant in a year or so, and even then not very long.
I was reading a magazine about bees (kids discover) and i thought about this game and came to look for another copy to install on my computer to enjoy it again.

This is a very fun game. I will tell you from expiernce.
The person that said this has bad graphics, sure. If you put this up to half life 2 (which i've never played, but i'm sure that it has good graphics) it WOULD have bad graphics.

Sure, maybe being a worker is boring, but i like to play as a soldier ant and attack the opposing ant colon. Its so much fun to go into the enemy colony and send all your ants to kill off workers, soldies, and the prize about all to kill, the queen!

Laying eggs as the queen is pretty fun too, and digging around.

Ok, look at this, its a fairly cheap game, you mightus well pick it up.

I can't believe how many addle-brained nitwits have written negative reviews here. This is one of the most inventive, open-ended, and rewarding games I've EVER seen, and this is a guy who's played his fair share of video games, both console and PC. There's so much to do with this that you can literally entertain yourself for days on end with it. Heck, you can even play a special "Experimental Mode" if you like, create a sprawling colony of thriving, successful black or red ants, and then annihilate them with whatever sick, twisted device of mayhem you choose, whether it be a spray can, a legion of spiders, or a swarm of enemy ants. BWUAHAHAHA!!!

But even beyond the sadistic element to this, this game is wonderfully intriguing on every level. You get to create your own society as an ant, building up your family, helping them succeed, deciding on the behavior and caste of your colony to find the best formula, and conquering whatever foes may try to interfere with your plans for complete domination of the back yard! My description here doesn't even do it justice. Just PLEASE, do yourself a favor and check this one out. If you've got some neurons cracking up there, you'll get into this, big time.
