Worth your time and money

I must admit the single player missions turned me off in the beginning, so, even before finishing the first set of campaignes, I turned to battle.net. Let me just say that, for about 48 hours, I was on battle.net, non stop, and my mother pryed me away from the comp to eat.

The Best of the Best

I am of course not alone when I say that Starcraft is one of the best in the world of computer games, certainly the best one that I have ever played.

Since the day it came out Starcraft was an instant success and still appeals to many, many gamers around the world. It's trememdous sucess is not without reason. It has a refreshingly original plot and marvelously absorbing strategy and gameplay.

I can say that the best feature of this game is it's ingenius use of species. Too many other RTS games I have played have had either one race or side much more powerful than the other, or races so similar the only difference is graphics. Starcraft is neither of these. It in fact has races that have proven time and time again online and in the campaigns to be both perfectly balanced while in many ways totally differant.

Taste is a big matter in Starcraft. Each species has their own pros and their own cons, and no one race has shown to dominate. Do you prefer the nomadic terrans with their explosive nukes and seige tanks? Would you rather play as the viscious Zerg with their unique building method and hordes of flying mutalisks and zerglings? Or perhaps you would prefer the mysterious protoss with their inimitable high templar and powerful vexing carriers full of armed fighters?

Discovering how to use each race in Starcraft is a challenge many people have enjoyed over the years. It's entire feeling seems as though it is timeless, and though I beat the campaigns long ago, I am still discovering new ways to use wraiths and ghosts, or reavers and shuttles, which seems to imply that there is no end to the possibilies that can be found. Highly reccomended to anyone who has grown tired of analogous styles of computer games.

NOTE: The game comes with a large single player campaign of 30 missions, a "practice" custom single player selection, an unbeatable multiplayer interface, and a complex map editing system with no end to the possibilities.

Dis game is great. When i first heard about the Blizzard game WarCraft I scoffed but turned out to abosultely love it.Enter StarCraft. A friend traded it to me. The game is almost perfect. The gameplay is good and the graphics are exceptional. The graphics really dont matter to me though. But of course every game has it flaws. StarCraft's flaw have to be the number of units u can control. Only 12?? Pleez i have a whole fleet of about 30 wraiths and I can only send 12? The game is kind of hard to learn for the Protoss and Zerg because all their structures have weird names. Overall i will recommend this game to anyone who is a friend of the WarCraft series, and to anyone who loves a good solid RTS.

it's war sims!!!

Yes, 1 star. While there are some very commendable traits, such as the hugely varying species, and an OK upgrade system, I did not like this game at all. It was really boring. The plot was real good but it was the combat that drove this game right into the ground. How often can you find two guys in helicopters, hovering 12 feet apart exchanging fire. Units do not evade in combat, they do not really do anything exciting (with exception of a few units). I would recomend you borrow this game from a friend before touching it.

Not As Good As It Gets

Starcraft was one game I was looking forward to buying because I am such a big fan of strategy games, but i must say it is not the best. This game is rediculously futuristic. This game is a great idea with all the species and missions, but all the units and building structures are too futuristic to make a good game out of the storyline it has. The only reason it got two stars from me is because it is a blast to play online with friends or even just joining into a game with people you don't know. The whole online thing is very nicely set up and it is fun to play. If want it for that reason, get it. Other than than that get a real strategy game.

Star Craft. Good Game, But a bad map editer.

As I said, This is a good game, Acctually it's a great game. One of the best strategy games i have played(Along with Age of Empires 2 and The Sims). I have always liked another game, age of empires as whell(I reccomend you check that out too), But this is a little bit different. Unlike in AoE, were you just control humans, in this you control one of three species. The Zerg, The Protoss or the Terran(Human). Each with there own special units and abilitys. The Graphics are acctually pretty good, Though some looks a little to cartoony(Not cartoony, i mean to much like animated stough). You have 3 campiangs to play.(Duh, one for each Race/Species). The one problem with it is its map editer. I had always liked creating my own maps and scenarios in Aoe and was looking forward to creating maps on this game, but was dissapionted. You can decide on the terrain and were resurces are and where you start, but thats about it. It has this stupid dfault thing were evan if you "DO" put units, They just put your town center/Conrl center/Nexus, etc, and four worker units. There is suppose to be some thing you type in in the propertis box to change this but it never works no matter what I do. Despite this problem, its a good game. Buy it

Sure, it's great...for a while

Many people praise Starcraft for being a great RTS, but I have found my money spent better elsewhere. Starcraft begins as a whole lotta fun, very challenging, but the cons outweigh the pros in this botched game.

Let's start with the good. The internet play is excellent, USE MAP SETTINGS offers many different types of games to play and make. The campaign missions are challenging and fun as well. The units are fun to ... and to employ in your army.

Ok, now the bad. The units are horribly unbalanced. The three different races play so different from each other you actually have to get used to each of them. The unit balance is something that really disgusts me as well. Zealots simply rule over marines, even though in a sense they are supposed to be equals for the two races. The next concern is AI. The AI is simply terrible. I was appalled at how horrible the computer played. I wonder how long Blizzard worked on the AI. The coding must have simply been "BUILD MINER, MINE, ATTACK". The graphics are outdated by this day, but that is not so problematic that anyone should care about it in their decision to buy the game. The map editor could have been improved, but instead people have to download the map editor hacks to make a good map. The voice acting is good, nothing to be ashamed of. The cinematics were excellently done, that is true. But the cinematics don't come in abundance, once you're done with the campaigns, that's it. GOODBYE.

The USE MAP SETTINGS feature is one thing that saves this game from the abyss. It's fun to make custom scenarios that are actually able to be played for a long time, rather than melee games which are simply "... ..."

Well, if you really want a good RTS I do not suggest Starcraft. However, if you like strictly military based RTS's that have good sound effects and a nice system of play, this is your game.

C&C Red Alert 2 is so much better than Starcraft

There are a couple things that annoy me about this game. First, you can only select 12 units(in Red Alert 2 you can select way more units at a time.) This makes attacking an enemy base really hard. I don't know why other people say that this game is so awsome or incredible. In Red Alert 2 there are more units and possibilities(tech buildings, garrasoning civilian buildings, and blowing bridges.) Second, the movies are really horrible(think Saturday morning cartoons.) The opening movie in Red Alert 2 is awe inspiring(unlike star craft.) The missions in Staecraft are either increadibly easy or immpossible. The units in RA2 are cooler and better designed. I don't know why every one says graphics in Starcraft are so much better than the graphics in RA2. When you chrono an Appocalipse Tannk into the water you can see it sinking. There are so many bad things about Starcraft I should probably mention more. In the movies the people's mouths don't actually coincide with what they're saying(ha ha ha.) The movies are cartoons probably because Blizzard was to poor to get proffesional actors. Also, Kerrigan is reallly ugly(even when she is not infested by the zerg.) Tanya, on the other hand, is a different story. 2 zerglings costs the same amount as a marine , but two zeglings can beat a marine. Now to discuss the super units in Starcraft. First there is the Reaver. As you probably know it launches Scarab drones that cost 15 minerels. The Scarab drones do 110 damge. Four of these Reavers could do significant damge to a base. Next, there is the Ghost. This "insignificant" unit can imobilize many times its own cost in mechanical units. The cut scenes in RA2 are NOT cheesy or laughable. How are you supposed to mount a succesful assault on a base with 12 units.
In conclusion, if you are planning to get Starcraft don't. If you are looking for awesome game that is worth every penny get RA2, ehich is about fifty times better than Starcraft.
