The best game ever

The game dose have good graphics compared to other games I played. When you begin you play the role of a young boy named Suerge. The game has 45 playable charecters.

I RATE THIS GAME FIVE STARS

Finally, a sequal that's actually a SEQUAL

It's a rare thing when the sequal to a game is actually a REAL sequal. Rarer still when it isn't completely lame. As a sequal, Chrono Cross is outstanding. It not only manages to create a new storyline, it manages to tie in with Chrono Trigger and answer some of the unanswered questions that spawned countless fanfics and debates. It IS a good sequal. Not without faults, but as a sequal it's supurb.

There are plenty of good things about this game. The music is probably the best game soundtrack I've heard in a while, it has a very celtic feel with classic Chrono style. The game is very cheery and colourful, if you like that kind of thing. The battle system is very different, as is the weapon-making system and level-building system. Beat a boss, gain a level. It's that simple. The FMV sequences are spectacular, very colourful and detailed. And in the Chrono Trigger tradition, there's plenty of replay value. Not only are there at more than ten extra endings to get on the second play, there are also a few extra secrets.

Other things about CC are both a blessing and a curse. There are literally about 40 playable characters. While you're sure to find at least one you like, it also gets frustrating. You have all these cool characters, but it's impossible to use them all regularly. But unlike a lot of games, you aren't forced to use annoying characters for very long, if at all. (Unless you hate Serge, then you'll just have to deal.) The plot is also sort of mixed. It's good in how it ties in with Chrono Trigger, and one or two of the plot twists were amazing. But the entirity of the second disc is very...Xenogears-ish. It throws plot at you constantly without explaining it, and literally brings the points that should have had the most development in at the very last minute. Then there's the character problem again. 40 characters = no character development. Sort of like Final Fantasy 6. The most important character get developed a bit, the others get nothing at all or at best a side-quest.

So is Chrono Cross a good game? Depends. As a sequal, it fills in a lot of unanswered questions left over from Chrono Trigger, further develops some of the characters, and lives up to everything a sequal should be short of actually being able to play the same characters. By itself, it really does depend on your taste. It's not a dark game. There are more characters than you'll ever need to use. The plot and dialogue both have their good points, though they're not flawless. If nothing else, the music is outstanding. So it gets one star for continuing Chrono Trigger and doing a good job of it, one and a half (Amazon really should have half stars) for the good points of the plot and character, one one for music. Bump that three stars to a full four if you're partial to little purple dogs with a lisp or a main hero who DOESN'T fight with a sword.

A very poor excuse of a game

I played Chrono Trigger before this game, and what a great game that was, one of the best ever. Then I went out and got this game and couldn't believe how bad it was. For one thing, there are a ton of characters, which only Serge and two others can battle at once. The battles are absolute torture. I hate the sysytem of percentage points for each type of hit. Even if your over 90% you miss half the time. The only game that I have ever played that successfully pulled that type of battle system off was Xenogears. The element system is a waste because you can only use a specific one once per battle, and they last a long time. They don't do a very good job of character development (except fo the main chracters). The story is just as boring as the gameplay. The only redeeming thing about this game is the graphics. Save your money for something that you can actually enjoy.

The best only from Squaresoft

This game gives you everything. It really makes you think which is better Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross. If you played and liked Chrono Trigger then you have to get Chrono Cross.

I just didn't like this game...

First of all, I am a huge RPG fan....especially the squaresoft rpgs. Maybe it's just me, but I just couldn't stand Chrono Cross. It's okay for a while, but it just gets so boring and you'll never play it again. I think the plot is just stupid and the boss just isn't ..evil enough.

Like I said, maybe it's just me. Anyway...

The Graphics are great, the sound is alright, control is good, but the gameplay dissapointed me. I just didn't like the battles. They just get so boring.

The characters...eh, well...are just stupid! Not all of them, but most of them.

All in all, I just didn't like this game. I am a HUGE RPG fan and I was really looking forward to this game, but it just got so boring that I got rid of it.

this game looks good, and the story is great but the game does not deliver the goods. The problem I have most with the game is serge the main character never talks, that is just plain lazyness you just get the feeling that serge is just lifeless and is not intristing at all. Since the game has so many characters in it, it seems that most of the other characters as lifeless as serge and have no pointe in ever bieng introduced to the plot.I feel thair is a limit to the number of characters in a game that will still make the game intristing. And I am sorry Game Informer, but this game does not restore my faith in the modern RPG(you have to read thair great magazine to know what I am talking about) Square could do better, I have seen it done.

Almost Final Fantasy quality!

I never played Chrono Trigger, but after playing this game I am definitely going to go back and get it! I like the battle system, it is less tedious than Final Fantasy's and the battles are foreseen and easily avoided. You need to defeat bosses to gain levels and unlock new abilities, such as raising your HP and other status, instead of slowly building levels by defeating weak enemies. I also like all the different characters, although there are too many to really develop some of their personalities. It is cool because you can choose the characters you want for your team at any given time, as long as you are at a save point! There are nine different endings to this game, which can be attained by beating the game multiple times. The graphics are pretty good considering it is a Playstation 1 game. If you like Final Fantasy games (or any RPG's for that matter), this one is for you.

Hate Kid

I hate the character Kid, I do not understand how she was made the heroine, maybe because she walks around half-naked, didn't see any good in her. Her attitude stinks.

The story is too much Final Fantasy, it could be much better. Not very original, but the time changing works quite well.

There are a lot of characters, 108 (Suikoden anyone?), but they are just TOO MANY to be used in a good way. You can only bring two characters (because you can't get the hero out of the party), trying to discover all these characters abilities would required you to start the game over several times. Some characters you get so late so you never really get any use of them.

Overall OK game.

Where is the time travel!?

This game is alright but not great because they took out time travel which is what made Chrono Trigger Chrono Trigger they just got a couple of alternate worlds not 6+ time zones like Chrono Trigger still get this game but get Trigger first or if you don't have the money get FFIX which is not quite as good but almost.

A GREAT GAME , A TERRIBLE SEQUEL

After i payed crono cross the felling i got is that squaresoft had a game ready to go but wanted to do a crono trigger sequel , and so FORCED this finished game to be a sequel, by putting mentions (sometimes senseless mentions) to crono trigger characters, if crono cross was called THE RADICAL DREAMERS and wasn't a sequel it wold be perfect, as a crono trigger fan i got very angry and disapointed.
