Fifth time is a charm

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 13 / 13

The long awaited and much anticipated fifth chapter in the Megaman X saga is now out on the Playstation. While you'll find that it is a great game for both fans and newcomers of the series, it does have a few flaws.

In the year 21XX, the Reploid Wars have been quelled at long last. Humanity has launched endeavors into space, ultimately resulting in the creation of the Eurasia Colony, a giant orbiting space station. Unfortunately, a sinister force sends the Colony out of its normal orbit and hurtling back towards Earth. It's up to the heroic Maverick Hunters to prevent the orbital from crashing onto Earth and wiping out civilization. They must find the parts to a powerful weapon, known as the Enigma Beam, which is the only object powerful enough to avert the deteriorating orbit of the space station. Naturally, in order to gather the parts, eight Mavericks must be taken down. Their names in this game are particularly unusual, consisting of: Grizzly Slash, Squid Adler, Izzy Glow, Duff McWhalen, The Skiver, Axle the Red, Dark Dizzy, Mattrex. These are their in-game names, which strangely contradict those in the manual.

Megaman X5 introduces a few new gameplay mechanics into the side-scrolling bliss that had already existed. Both X and Zero can duck and shoot their weapons while in this position. They can also grip onto vines and poles to traverse massive chasms. The game is also, to some extent, timed. The Colony crashes in sixteen hours and so careful choices must be made. These lead to the game's multiple endings. The eight Mavericks that must be challenged all have unique stages, and several have certain objectives that must be completed. Unfortunately, not all mechanics are for the better. X and Zero seem to have the inability to shoot through walls this time.

Graphically, the game is prettier than X4 was. However, the animation of the boss characters is surprisingly limited. They also reused many sprites from X4. Aurally, the game's soundtrack is exciting, although many of the minor characters and other bosses are strangely mute. On the other hand, X and Zero don't "yelp" as much as they did in X4, which drove me crazy.

In general, though, the jury is still out as to whether or not this game is as good as Megaman X4 was. It does seem to lack a certain polish that its predecessor had, but it arguably makes up for it with exciting new enhancements. And ill regardless, Megaman continues to be the finest side-scroller series on the market.

100% MEGAMAN !

I am a big fan of Megaman..

If You like Megaman I know You are going to buy this game regardless..

So I will cut it short..

This is the best megaman 2-D to date the graphics and gameplay are out of sight..

The music is not bad and has some Great cartoon pics..

I only have one little negative. > I just cant stand listening to that beeping sound that takes place during the talking sequence..

I would rather have a mute than hear that beeping..

So anyway I do, just mute it.. But the game kicks man lets give it up...

Too Awesome !!

Mega Man x5 is finnaly here and unfortunatly does not deliever as much as usual. The game itself is very fun I love the ability to find the different suits as opposed to just one and I like the countdown feature. Also I am so glad they finnaly gave you the ability to duck. So what do I have agaisnt it you ask? It is too simple. Most who remember the old Mega Man games rememeber how fighting boss guys is almost in possible unless you have the weapon that there weak agaisnt. Well no more. i found that hte entire game could be completed just from switching from x to zero or vice versa in order to beat the enemys; with only using the standered weapons. Another thing that I don't like is the infinte amount of contiunes that you have. There is no longer the same frustration and challange that was in the past games. So overall in summary this is still a great game and I recomend people that haven't played as the blue bomber before to cheak it out. But for all the veterans out there you may be dissapointed in the difficulty of this game. Maybe it was because we're expecting do much from the big M, but with good reason; he usually delivers.

Ok, i got MMX5 and as soon as i popped it in i was introduced to some fine lookin' anime for the opening sequence...i couldn;'t sit still i was so excited...however...

Come to the first scene and i noticed the one thing that REALLY bothered me....all the scenes are text, and still pics...no anime at ALL!! After playing MM8 and X4 i felt almost insulted that Capcom refused to add the cut scenes. But thats the my only real gripe with the game (except those STUPID enemy names...c'mon, Duff McWhalen? The Japanese names are MUCH MUCH better)

Gameplay is very solid, graphics are crisp and clean, smooth animations, and the different armors are great. If you're looking for a great 2D platformer, you can always count on MegaMan...

I know many people think X5 wasn't as good as it was hyped up to be, but I think it is much better than X4.

Comparison:

X4: Bosses were much more difficult; Could play only as either X or Zero; Hard to even get to Sigma, much less beat him.

X5: Bosses are much easier; Play as both X and Zero; Easier to get to Sigma, but not easy easy.

Well, latr

Basically your return to the 2d world

People

First I highly suggest purchasing this game if you have played 2d games; if you have never played 2ds, this game will suck for you. Nonetheless, 2ds are still enjoyable if you give them a chance. It's a time-based game; if this becomes an issue, I suggest you visit gameshark.com and get your hands on a gameshark. If you have a PSone or PS2, get Gameshark Lite. It makes the game a bit more "interesting."

Maga Man X5? Too Easy

For anyone that hasn't played the game, I really think you should buy it. It's perfect for new blue bomber fans! But as for the veterans, it isn't as "fun" as Mega Man X4. The bosses are a lot easier, and you don't need any weaknesses to beat them. In Mega Man X4, I remembered struggling against the Bosses with Zero since he doesn't really have something that Bosses are weak against. It was about 1 month until I finally beat the game with X, and another month to beat the game with Zero. Mega Man X5 only took me a week. It's a good game though, if you count the graphics, the stages, etc.

Simply Beautiful

Well, as the greatest Mega Man/Mega Man X fan alive, I thought that this game was beautiful. I say pshaw to those who shun this game. They have no idea what they are talking about. They all said the same friggin thing- "The game is too easy....big disappointment"......... Pshaw! I don't care about any of that. The game was VERY fun, and the story... simply beautiful. I couldn't have done it better myself. The ONLY let down, however, was that there was no Vile in the game. Vile is undoubtedly the koolest character in the series!

The easiest Mega Man X game of the whole series

This game is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too easy. Plus, I think that X4 was a little better. See, you have Zero, and you can select a character before you enter a level. But, depending on the character you chose at game start (personally I prefer X, since he gets his Fourth Armor from Mega Man X4) depends on the line of story. See, if you choose X, you have his fourth armor, but if you don't, then he gets nothing. Next, If you find a capsule with X, then you get the part. He can't wear the armor unless you find all the parts. You need the falcon Armor to get the Gaia armor anyway. Zero actually gets a capsule this time (and it helps a LOT with his defenses) but X gets most of them. There is a capsule in every stage. You can grab a capsule with Zero as well. The bosses are a big disapointment to the X series. They were much more difficult in the previous Mega Man X games. Getting to bosses is easy. Next is that Zero can hardly get ANY hearts. You need one of Mega Man's special armors to collect them all. Mega Man has 5 different looks. His normal pathetic look. His fourth armor from X4, the Gaia Armor, the Falcon Armor, and the Ultimate Armor. The Ultimate Armor is for those who find it, which is in a single capsule. If you entered a special code in X4, then you may have already seen it. The Ultimate Armor can ONLY be found in the 3rd sigma stage. Thats too close to the end of the game. You could enter a code to get his Ultimate armor. (Up twice then Down nine times, or vise versa.) Or enter a code to get Zero's black Armor (Down twice then up nine times or vice versa.) Overall, I'd say that if you like the series, its a must own game. However you will find it to be a little dissapointing. You can make special parts, but that isn't much. Other then that, I wouldn't want to spoil the plot to the game, so all I can say is enjoy. But I found it to be a dissapointment to the series. But it is a great game!
