First off, let me say that I like my video games firmly based in reality. No platformers, no hokey cartoon characters, absolutely no RPGs, but this game opened me up a bit more. Solid graphics and control, addictive gameplay, and plenty of objectives to complete make this a great adult game in kids' packaging.

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is a terrific game that is even better than the original. While the first Spyro is one of my favorite games, it got a little boring just finding dragons all the time. There just wasn't much variety to it. Enter Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! This game far outshines the original with better graphics, better characters, and the storyline is much more original. In each level, there is one person you have to help out, and you are awarded the Tallisman. From then on, there are 2 or 3 more tasks you have to do to get the orbs. For example, some of the tasks are leading a group of baby turtles to safety, finding a lost snow leopard,(Don't worry, he won't bite!:)), and filling some underwater towers with water for some seahorses(Don't ask!) Also, the animated sequences in between levels are wicked funny. A GREAT GAME! END.

I don't think any game can match that of Spyro 2. It is kind of in a catagory of its own. Anyways, the game is fun to play however very time consuming. Not many things are different from Spyro 1, but it is definitely more fun to play.
Pluses: 1. Sega Dreamcast style graphics! 2. Awesome levels Negatives: 1. Camera movement is HORRIBLE! 2. Music can make you fall asleep 3. Retarded charactor voices 4. Some of the orb getting challenges are MUCH harder than they say and vise versa!
I would say that the worse part about the game is the camera movement. It sucks big time! Many battle scenes that I do in the game, the camera kept getting stuck behind rocks and would just sit there while I had no idea what I was doing. I also accidently flew off some cliffs because the camera could keep up with my speed. You can adjust the camera angles with the control, but theres no time when your fighting someone.
Hints to the game: 1. ABSOLUTELY get EVERY orb you can get. I made the mistake of just beating the levels, but not getting orbs. I now have to go back. 2. Put the camera mode on Active to try to keep up with what your doing faster.

There are many "buried treasures" in the Playstation One library, which is vast beyond belief, but Spryro 2: Ripto's Rage is one of the very best. There are few games of this calibur and playability even on the vaunted PS2. And in many ways, this game is more than classy enough both in conception, and graphical beauty to BE a PS2 title anyway. Hint, to PS2 owners, add this to your library because as you know, you can play older PSOne games on your system and this is downright a steal at the price compared to some very expensive PS2 games that aren't near as good.
This isn't a flight sim, a space shooter, a FPS where you look behind some gun trying to kill, it's not a strategy game (though some strategy plays a part), nor is it some Lord of The Rings type of mythical BS. It's all about this purple flying, jumping, swimming (and more) cartoon dragon character. Exploring and learning and collecting within a magical, dreamy, peaceloving, almost Wizard of Oz type land full of beautiful scenery and places, lots of strange characters and creature and things, and lots of pretty psychedelic colors, lights, and special effects.
This game reminds me of a 3d Super Mario game, and while easy going (trancy, space-type music plays in some parts adding to the strange otherworldly experience), and a pretty simple platform game, that's its main beauty and playability. This is truly like playing in a cartoon and not by any means a static cartoon, as the graphics are almost studio-movie quality in animation. This game genre has been done in countless ways, but this really does rank up there with those long hour killing days of manipulating Mario around, but in a magical, fairy tale land all presented in intense colors and shapes and forms. While the gameplay in Spyro is so simplistic on early levels that a 6 year old would have no problem with it, in a way, this is a game for all ages, and most 60 plus year olds would probably get a kick out of it too. I'd also highly recommend it as a game parents can play along with their kids as its so much fun for both, with enough interest and playability and eye candy for both as well.
For others between those ages, I can't recommend this game enough as just a pleasant, non-violent trip into a land over the rainbow now and then, and is even a good stress reliever in some ways. A lot of PSOne games leave a lot to be desired, in these days of the second-generation consoles and higher end PC games, that usually means graphics. Then again, a lot of the newer (and a lot more expensive) games of this type on those more costly systems, are great looking but lack gameplay.
This is not only on a par graphics wise with most PS2 games, but in gameplay as well. PsOne or PS2 owners alike will not be disappointed in spending the low price of this game to add to their collection. I had tried lots of PSOne games (still don't have a PS2 but have seen enough to know what they're capable of graphically) before buying this particular game, and it was worth every cent, because for all practical (and graphical) purposes, this looks and plays a lot more like a PS2 game than a PSOne. My first reaction upon playing this was just, "WOW."
This is as good as anything on PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube, both graphically and in playability, period. Easy, fun, relaxing trips with a goofy little purple dragon and tinkerbell, in a land of beauty and color and strangeness. What more could one ask from a game? Buy this now while you still can, whether you have a PSOne OR a PS2. This is a real gem of a video game, for the kids, and for those so-called "adults" out here who are simply and forever will remain, kids at heart.

I rented the first game from a neighbor of mine and I loved it. It was challenging and fun. Then when this game came out, I was a bit disappointed. The graphics and controls were the same but it was TOO EASY! I beat the game in less then 4 days of renting from Blockbuster. If you like short, sweet, and easy games, this is for you. If you are like me and want challenging games, I recommend getting either Final Fantasy 8, Syphon Filter, or Metal Gear Solid.

This game was fun and everything, but it just was not as good as the first. So as not to bore you, I'll break it down, with the pros and cons between this game and its predecessor.
Pros: -This time you can swim, and infact there is a whole level devoted to swimming. This is definitely one of the funner parts of this game.
-There is definitely more to do. You can play hockey, look for snow leopards, and other really fun stuff that was not in the first.
-There are different power-ups that can make you fly for long periods of time, give you a much more powerful breath of fire, along with another that does the same thing with ice. This is a definite help in collecting orbs and such.
-More levels to play, and each is very different. You get to go to a volcano, a mechanical farm, a city ruled by robots, and a watery world with mechanical sharks that you have to watch out for.
Cons: -Collecting orbs can get annoying. You should really collect them throughout the game and not wait until the last minute. That's what I did and I had to play many of the levels again to try to get more, which was not at all fun.
Other than that the game is great. I recommend it to anyone who likes adventure games that aren't impossible to beat, and if you liked Spyro 1, you will more than likely enjoy this one, as well.

I loved Spyro. It was fun, fresh, and had great grahpics. Spyro 2 seems a bit harder than the first by requiring a lot of going through the same worlds twice as you gain the ability to do new moved. Not only that, but mini-games much like Ape Escape or Crash Bandicoot. Hidden places that are completly unmarked like Myste/Riven. New feature you'll see a lot of, swimming under water. So, it's a nice sequel, with a few irritations for people like me who adored the first one but felt cheated to realize the flight simulations were necessary for a complete finish. I guess I just want a game with Spyro and none of the other stuff thrown in there.

My son's, ages 4 & 6 loved this game. I don't play as much as they do, so my opinion relies heavily on there appreciation of the game. The graphics are well done, the game has plenty of territory to cover, and it's different enough from the first version that they stay interested in playing and replaying the game. Yea, I know they're only 4 & 6, but if they and their friends love the game who am I to argue. It doesn't hurt that the game isn't offensive.

Let me put it plain and simple: This game rocks! The game is fairly easy, but since there is so much to do and collect, it'll keep you playing for a long time! Just trust me on this one- SPYRO 2 KICKS ....!

This game i just plain old awesome!!!!!Good graphics with a smooth framerate. It has easy controls, so new gamers can catch on quicly. The first time, playing it, was challenging. To get 100%, yo need all the taiisman, and all the treasure, and all 64 orbs. If you have 100%, there is a surprise at the end. Overall, very good game. im looking forward to Spyro 3, year of the dragon.
