A Definite Trilogy

If you loved the first two, then you'll love this one. Spyro year of the dragon is definitely a mix of Spyro the dragon and Ripto's Rage with an extra twist. I just wish that Insomniac would make more Spyro games. Three just isn't enough!

Although I must first admit that I am a Spyro fan and that I have, despite my adult age, spent countless hours with all three games, this review is not wholly a biased one.

And my opinion is not based on the usual "he-is-such-an-adorable-little-character" line either; instead it is based upon the fact that the game is versatile enough to hook anybody from the get go. With a lot of running, jumping, swimming, flying, and especially blasting to do as well as plenty of puzzles to solve, this is what I call "sheer entertainment." Furthermore, the third part of this gaming trilogy allows you to enter other characters besides Spyro, which is a nice plus (being the Yeti is definitely a plus; although being the Kangaroo actually made me sea-sick, go figure...). To sum it up - any Spyro is a great game.

PS. The first two games required me more time to finish (especially the levels with multiple run-jump sequences in the second game), but who knows how steep the learning curve is in regard to games such as these...Nonetheless, Spyro is always guaranteed fun!

Most likely the best of the Spyro games.

Graphics: 10/10 - Absolutely stunning! Clear and imaginative, with no flaws and breathtaking set design pieces.

Sound: 7/10 - The same old, same old stuff but still in good quality. Characters speak clearly, the flame sound is neat and the flapping wings are soft. Like all games the sound needs to be more dramatic.

Value: 8/10 - This is a fun game to play and gives you a lot to think about and enjoy. Unfortunately, some gamers may find it too difficult near the end. Just keep playing and you'll get there, it's worth it!

Overall: 9/10 - Totally cool 3.D. platform game. I loved the way the characters moved, spoke and acted. The plot was pretty much recycled stuff from the other 2 Spyro games with a kidnap plot added in, but Year of the Dragon is a beautiful, great and really enjoyable PlayStation experience none-the-less.

I am a die-hard Spyro fan who is really into role-playing games. This is probably the best and I mean the BEST game ever made for the Playstation 1! It has wonderful senery and neat new characters.But listen to me and listen to me well, If you want to buy this game, you must buy the GREATEST HITS version with a bright green bar where it says Playstation. If you don't there is a bug on a speedway level which prevents you from completing the game. I suggest that you get it at a retail store to be sure that you get the right one.

This Game is the COOLEST!

This game is the coolest Spyro game ever! I am a real Spyro fan and I have Spyro 1 and Spyro 3. The coolest part about this game is that you could skateboard with Hunter(the cheetah) in different courses.(HINT:There is a very cool skating park in that one course called Enchanted Towers.)There are also four new playable characters! I will tell you who they are: Sheila is the kangaroo(She was a little difficult to control her for the first time),SGT.Byrd is the Bird(He is fun to play),Bentley is the yeti, and Agent 9 is the monkey(He is my least favorite). At least rent the game! It is worth the money!

In addition to the usual stuff like finding the eggs, there's lots of challengeable and great mini-games and you've got a lot of moves--swimming, flying, headbashing, surfboard skating, etc.

Want to play a mini-game that's like Doom? You're agent 9, the monkey with a target laser gun against rooms full of rhynocs. Want to jump around like a kangaroo? You're Sheila with the high double-jump. Compared with the other previous Spyro games to this one, this is the best and most challenging. Want to fly in the air like a firedragon and flame away at 2 fast-flying firedragons? It's your choice--lots of fun and took me forever to win. Want to slide down and try to get to the very end without falling off the slide? It's cool and fun. Want to box against a Yeti and maybe with your friend? It's right here. Want to practice making lemon twist and other cool surfboard moves high in the air? right here.

The music and graphics are phenomenal! it's definitely worth the money!

There is a BUG in this game.

This game WOULD have gotten a rating of four or five stars, if it weren't for a nasty little bug that keeps you from finishing this game. You can see ... for all of the details on it. But in short, if you enter a 'Speedway' round and don't finish it and get your egg, you never will. The game has been fixed and a newer version is available, but if you have the broken version the only way to finish the game is to send your memory card to Sony. Since Sony won't replace the defective version of the game, I rate this one ONE star and recommend Spyro fans avoid it.

Whilst,Spyro 1 was the best of all three,I think this is good.Get it right now.Try the second first.Then try this.After that you'll think this is the best.I repeat to get it now.The only time you'll turn the TV off is at mealtime,school and bed.

I am 12 years old, and Spyro: year of the dragon is by far the best playstation game I have ever played. I have 27 playstation games, and played almost every PS game there is, and spyro 3 is the best. Spyro 1 was good, Spyro 2: ripto's rage was really really good, but for spyro 3: year of the dragon, 5 stars is not enough! The controls are great, The sound is great and the graphics are great. Plus there are 5 other characters you can play as. In the first home world there is a level that you can play Sheila the kangaroo, who can double jump. in the second home world theres a level where you play as sargent bird, the penguin who can fly, and has a missile launcher. in the third home world play as bently the yeti, who can bust through any thing. and in the fourth home world, play as agent 9 the monkey who has a blaster. Not to mention that in every home world there is a sparx world where you play as sparx the dragon fly. Defeat the sourceress, collect the dragon eggs and diamonds, and kill the rhynocs. this is the perfct game.

It's a really good game.

The first game I ever played was Spyro 1. I LOVED it! It was SO fun. When I heard that there was a second I had to get it, then the third, I'm hooked on them! I really like them. They are so fun and Spyro is SO cute. I would recomend the Spyro games for a beginner because even if you're not good you play your way to becoming more advanced. If you haven't played Spyro before, then I reomend that you go get it because it's really good!
