take twisted metal, road rash, the need for speed, and tony hawk pro skater, mix 'em all together and throw in some snow and you got arctic thunder. you race on 12 tracks with your choice of 15 different characters and a variety of tricks to earn points, to get cash, so you can upgrade your vehicle. you can punch your opponents if your close enough, and if that doesnt do it for you just fire a missle at 'em.

Keep This One In the Arcade

This is quite a thrilling action game, with all the feel of fast paced, environment-rich arcade hits like Hydro Thunder and Rush 2049. But the real question here is, how exciting is an arcade game with unlimited tries on your less-than impressive 19-inch TV? This game has high-quality graphics, and an extremely realistic movement system... I can only think of Gran Turismo 3 as a comparison. The sequence of unlocking new tracks is challenging, and would be more simple on a platform than in an arcade.

But two of the most exciting things, steering with wheel and throttle, and sitting in the chair that has the sounds and vibrations coming straight to your senses, are lost when translated to the PS2 format. This IS a very fun game, but it may get tiring quickly when you can play it at any time you feel like it. There is a more tense and exciting feeling from playing an arcade game...you don't want to loose or be too risky, on the chance of losing your precious 3 quarters. Try this in the arcade first...and even if you like it, remember that you're going to be MUCH further from the experience when you play it on your TV.

Hey I have played the arcade game at a local Bar and Grill in my hometown and when I walked in the walls were shaking and I thought I have to try this game. I got to tell you this is the best racing game ever made!! I can't wait to play it on my PS2. This will be a prime choice game for people who love to race.

Could be better, could be worse...

The graphics are a nice improvement over the original PSX game, but the gameplay isn't real deep. I rented it for 2 days and finished it, and nothing made me want to go back and keep playing it.

Too much fun in the snow!

This game is a blast! For those of you who aren't very coordinated when it comes to video games...you'll love this game. New challenges come up all the time. There are so many hidden roads, and each new character unlocked makes more fun all the time. Highly recommended.

Disappointing!!!!

I was looking very forward to Arctic Thunder for the PS2 as I love the Arcade game. Unfortunately, Midway did a rush job on this game, and it is rather disappointing.

The graphics are choppy, making it hard to figure out what is going on sometimes. It is also hard to figure out which weapon you have, and which enemy you are firing it at.

Unfortunately, it appears that Midway did not take their time with this game. It could have been a big hit, instead this one will soon find its way in used game bins everywhere.

Save your money for a better game!!

Fun game for all ages!

My wife and I recently bought this game so we could play a game that had a two player mode. So far so good. There are a couple different options, it's not just racing (there's a battle mode and more). The game is a lot of fun and I would highly recomend it for anyone who likes racing with a little violence mixed in. I think there are better racing, or action games out there, but like I said this is a fun one to play as one player or two.

VERY Disappointing.

This game has a cool cover. You see missiles and explosions and high speeds... It looks like a cool game on the outside. But pop it into you good old PS2 and you'll discover that looks can be deceiving. The game is way to fast paced. Usually, that's a good thing, but this one is SO fast paced, you can't tell what the heck's going on! The levels are WAY to short, but I've been playing SSX for so long, perhaps i'm a bit biased. The graphics... [shudders in revultion] ...are horryfing! It shames the mighty PS2 by looking like an N64 game! Not that there's anything wrong with N64 games... But they don't belong on a PS2!! Plus, this game looks like it could have been pretty good with some kind of storyline, which it has absolutly none of. I can only hope the Xbox or Gamecube versions will be better. But until then, don't let the nifty cover suck you in!

This game is probably the weekest game in snowmobile history. At the start of any race you can hold down the power button and make it all the way to the end of the course without even steering. Too many bright flashing colors like you are a pinball bouncing around until the race is over. Don't even bother trying to leave the track.. This game does what IT wants to do. Not worth even renting
