Frogger for PS2

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 4
Date: March 22, 2003

As an employee in the R-Zone section(video games) of a Toys R Us, I often recommend this game to parents looking to buy their young children a game. The graphics arent a "10" but who cares. It's easy enough for a child to pick up and play and not need a strategy guide. If youre looking for the next edition to the classic 80's arcade game you've come to the wrong place. This revamped oldie is nothing like its predecessor. Here Frogger has taken on a whole new role as an adventure hero (similar to PacMan fever) Like I said, if youre looking for classic Frogger dont get this game, but if youre looking for an appropriate game the kids can have a lot of fun with and also play with their parents, this is definitely the game for you. Hey, for ten bucks, how can you go wrong?

Glad I rented it first

Disappointing is probably too kind. While I've enjoyed Frogger in the past (PS1), the newest edition to the Frogger brand was clearly an attempt at revenue generation and nothing more. The controls were simply impossible to use in any consistent way, the game frequently froze, and even the valiant attempt at playing the game (at the behest of my 5 year old) lost its luster in less than an hour. In addition, the storyline and context of the game as a whole was vapid at best...I'm certainly glad I rented this game first.

Sad excuse for a game

I don't even know where to begin...
I bought this game because I thought it looked like a fun little cutesy game. It is very cutesy (too much so for my taste) but it is far from fun. The controlling is skittish, changing camera angles all the time is a hassle, and I keep getting stuck in little glitches (reminiscent of tony hawk, when my character was just floating in midair with no skateboard). I can't believe I spent 44 dollars on this junk. I'm so embarassed. My advice? Buy Crash 4 (aka Wrath of Cortex) if you want a cute game that's fun to play. I'm gonna go drown my sorrows in GTA3 and try to sell this junk on e-bay.

Stay Far Away

This poor hack of the great Frogger is not only a horrible game, it defiles the very classic that it supposably represents. The controls are quirky, camera angles are absolutely unforgiveable, and the graphics would be poor on a Nintendo 64. Level designs are both unoriginal and uninspired, and the enemy AI is so mind-numbingly stupid that the game would be no challenge at all if you could ever get your little frog to do what he's supposed to. I finally gave up after the seventh time my character got stuck in a wall and I had to reset the PS2, so I can't comment on the length of the game. The next time I want to watch a slimy amphibian spit phlegm at his enemies, I'll just take a cold shower.

OK

This is one of the first games I got for my new Playstation 2 console, and it's OK. The controls are a bit jerky, but the game is challenging and fun, when you aren't frustrated because little Frogger won't spit frog goobers at the pesky fish who is attacking you. The game is a bit like Mario, and for any iMac owner who has ever tried the free demo game Bugdom, Frogger is very similar, but better. I would reccomend this game, but if you didn't really like Mario, I would rent it before buying it yourself.

Bad Christmas Gift... Not Fun at All...

I am sad to say that this game is VERY BAD. I had such high hopes being a fan of the last two Frogger games. This game is nearly impossible to control, for an adult or my six year old child (who is normally quite good at these games.) Very little action in this game, it doesn't lay out the point of each board very well, leaving the player roaming around searching for boring little coins and gems. This gets old very quickly. Although my game has never froze as other reviewers have reported, I wish it had. At least that would have been more interesting than playing the game. Bottom line is that this game will get old for nearly everyone within about 15-20 minutes. I wouldn't buy this game again...

Worst...platformer...ever

Sadly there's nothing that can be said of this game in the positive, except for perhaps the colors and the relative size of the environments.

Simple doddering enemies, the most wretched controls of all time, pointless collecting (the "reward system" is laughable and nothing more), poor overall graphics, [poor] framerate and brainless dialogue make for a terrible game through and through. After 1 hour and several levels in, I wound up chucking the game -- not in frustration, but in disgust.

The only audience fit for this game is the 4-9 year old crowd, however, they'll probably only wind up crying after trying to get around the horrible controls, which you can't.

If you're a big platform fan you may want to check out Sly Cooper instead.

Terrible game!

This PS2 game is pretty bad. The storyline is rather stupid. I found the graphics to be colorful but overall not that great. Also, you spend a lot of time swimming in rivers and waterfalls, but there is NO sound of flowing water! I played this game for about an hour before giving up on it. Maybe little kids will like the colorful, cartoony graphics, but that's about it. Definitely not worth buying to add to your library. Rent it instead if you really want to play it.

A RIP OFF !!!!!!!

This is the worst PS2 game I have play. The controls are jerky and you cannot control Frogger's movements when it counts. I guess they did not test this game before they release it to the public. If you don't trust my judgement, please rent first before buying.
