Play it before you rate it!!!

I happen to pre-order the Nascar Heat and once it arrives I will give a proper rating. I do know with what I have seen it does out perform the Electronic Arts version of the game. It may not be the PC Version like NASCAR 4 but I have had many friends come over during parties and they couldn't get enough of it...and that was Nascar 2001 by EA Sports. I will admit it is a better 2 player game.

Sorry Racers, but bought this game on a whim, and paid dearly for it. Nascar Heat just can't measure up to the amount of playability, and realism that Nascar Thunder 2002 offers. You can't build your own car. You must race an established car, (sorry but what fun is bein the substitute driver??) I wanna be the STAR!! The head to head feature wasn't that impressive. Yeah great Kevin Harvick can beat me on his favorite track? I paid 20 bucks to find this out??
The graphics looked washed out on my tv, and the car gets too squirelly in the corners. The music, and the intro is better then NT2002, but the spotter's voice is too garbled to understand clearly. Overall very disappointed with this game.

just like old ea games

I went by the reviews and rented this game, lucky i didn't buy it, it's almost exactly like the old ea games, which are nothing, especially compared to the sierra computer games. I haven't played the 2002 ea game, so i can't say about it, but i'd say cart world series is the best playstation racing game. and it's so old you probably can't find it anymore.

ok if you like nascar games

This game was a bit of a letdown for me. I was expecting tight control with updated paint schemes and all the tracks. The paint schemes are there, all the tracks are there i believe, save for Indy, the control is kinda iffy, i suppose it will take some getting used to, so i say 3 stars for now with potential for 4 or maybe 5, i cant stop playing Twisted Metal: Black long enough to give it a real chance, but at least i played it before trashing it. The whole point of NASCAR is to race the other drivers, rather than the track, hence the repetitive nature of NASCAR.

Ok, but not great.

I bought this title based on the reviews I read here, but it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. I also bought Gran Turismo 3 along with it, so maybe I'm spoiled after playing it first. GT3 is the best racing sim availble at the time I'm typing this. If you're a diehard NASCAR fan you'll more than likely enjoy Nascar Heat 2002, despite the lackluster graphics and realism. However, don't expect to be knocked off your feet or anything.

most realistic racing game yet

nascar heat 2002 is awesome. first of all it has the heat challenges, which are great. it has great camera views, just like tv. on yellow flags you get the stats, instead of just sitting there doing nothing. it has awesome graphics..great sensitive controls which make the game real..plus many many more great features.. the only thing i wish nascar would do is to put in the game something like money control, so if you wreck you have to pay for it. i also wish they would put sponsorship deals so you can change sponsors or they can drop you..maybe one of these days..

This game is solid, and fantastic for the NASCAR Fan.

Okay, I can't stand looking at the 3-star rating anymore based on just 2 reveiws, 1 of which is a guy who never even played this. Despite the mediocre posting to this point, this game is solid, and will provide you with more than enough enjoyment to offset the $50 price-tag. The tracks are 10x more realistic than NASCAR 2001, including great scenery like the infield and grandstands, as well as active pits in the background. For the regular fan, walk out and buy this next time you are at your store of choice. For the avid NASCAR fan, RUN out and buy this. You will be thrilled with what you find.

A nice game, but improvements are still needed......

Nascar Heat 2002 is by far the best NASCAR game on the PS2 so far, however there are a few things missing that keep it from being perfect.

Several tracks are missing from this game including Pocono, Indy, Chicago and Kansas City. If you are fans of any of the following drivers, you will be let down, they are not in this game: Johnny Benson, Steve Park, Michael Waltrip, Jimmy Spencer, Todd Bodine, Ron Hornaday, Kyle Petty, Buckshot Jones, Bill Elliott, Casey Atwood, Jason Leffler, Andy Houston, Ricky Craven, Dave Blaney, Jerry Nadeau, Brett Bodine, Stacy Compton, Rick Mast and Hut Stricklin.

With the memory constraints, its impossible to have all of the cars racing on the track at the same time, however, its unacceptable that all the drivers are not available for selection, and that all of the tracks are not included in this game. It is the same as if a Major League Baseball Team or Stadium was left out of a baseball game....would you buy it? NO. EA's Nascar game was guilty of this, NASCAR Heat is better, but it still isn't a complete game.

Ok, Now for the good!! The tracks and cars in NASCAR Heat have never looked better. The new paint schemes can be found on all of the cars, including Dale Jarrett's UPS Taurus, Jeff Gordon's Flaming Dupont Paint Scheme, Mark Martin's Pfizer Car, Kevin Harvick's Goodwrench car etc. The graphics are very pleasing to the eye, and I never noticed any slowdown or graphics break down, even in two player mode. There are lots of fun mini games which will keep you busy as well. The Opening Cinema is nice, and has a brief tribute to Dale Earnhardt towards the end. You will find the Man in Black's car in some of the mini games, just not in the races.

The gameplay is fun, however I never found where any accidents were caused by anyone other than myself. That was a disappointment, but didn't ruin the overall experience for me. There is a camera angle that you can select while driving, which looks as if it is a bumper camera. The sense of speed using this angle is amazing!!

Overall, I am pleased with Nascar Heat 2002. It is the best NASCAR game so far for the PS2. If you are looking for a NASCAR game this is the one to buy!!

Recommended!!
