I read such glowing reviews of this game that I went out and bought it without giving it a test drive. This has to be without a doubt the most boring game that I have ever played. The graphics are below average and the game speed is so fast that you basically run around hoping to gather two frags before dying and starting over. I normally am a big Activision fan, but I feel like this genre is not really where their game designing strength lies. Many people apparently enjoy this game, but I would think twice before purchasing.

Whats all the fuss?

I don't see why so many people hate this game. In my opinion there seems to be alot of biased reviewers. The game is fast, bloody, and kicks a**. First person shooters are not usually my favorite thing but I bought this one and I love it. The story gets kind of old after a while and the weapons get boring but tats only during single player. The real fun started during multiplay with some friends. I dominated and while they were trying their hardest to hit me with a shotgun from a distance in space I wiped em out with my railgun. This game can be a lot of fun but if your in a samller level with the maximum number of bots and have them on decent diffuculty levels expect some chaos. Chances are right after you spawn you might eat a rocket. I like the fact that when on nightmare level I fire a rocket in their face and they keep on running like nothing happened to them. Then they turn around with a machinegun and mow me down. If you havn't played this game the machine gun is the weakest gun in the game and its what you start out with. So if you are considering this game I would read the editorials instead of these customer reviews because it seems some of these customers have a serious chip on their shoulder.

quake 3 for PS2 is a very good game but i feel does not match what the other games in the quake series accomplished . GRAPHICS- the graphics were great from wall textures to the star lit sky of space and the water effects were well done i was quite impressed with the lava . the guns looked realistic but none really were anything like the weapons in quake 1 & 2 . GAMEPLAY- fast gameplay keeps you on the edge of your seat but what was dissapointinbg was the lack of automatic weapons (they even turned the quake 1 nailgun into a single fire weapon ) the controls are confusing unless you can operate the analog joysticks but r easy to get the hang of . OVERALL- apart from the lack of automatic weapons quake 3 is FPS great for the PS2 .

this game looks cool. good graphics, pretty good gameplay, etc. but i feel this game is lacking one major feature: Bob Barker. can someone please tell me where he is in this game? it really makes me mad they forgot to put him in this game. but i guess i can live with it...(sigh)for now.

Just like Unreal, Quake is another great computer game that was quickly converted to PS2 in an effort to put it on the shelf for a quick profit. The vendor knows the game will sell because: 1) Quake has an enormous name share in the gaming market, and 2) there haven't been any great PS2 games released lately. I hope Sony and software companies stop taking advantage of the PS2 consumers by releasing medicocore games. Quake had so much potential for PS2, but the almighty dollar blinded EA, and they chose to sacrafice quality in exchange for a quick profit.

Great game..but LONG load times. But the gameplay is perfect. This is better than the PC version. 60fps, no jaggies, no pop-up. Just fast, bloody gameplay. I think this game has the best graphics from the games I have played. I HIGHLY recommend this game.

Obviously the loading times are quite long and it is very annoying but thats not this games only flaw.First person shooters have always been my favorite genre of games, but this one just doesnt get me going. The graphics really arent what they should be (especially the differant charactors) and there is just nothing there to keep you and your friends there for long. One of its better qualities is its speed. it does move pretty fast, and its easy to learn the controls. However with other fps games out there that do a better job of this same type of thing(unreal, timesplitters) there is no reason to buy this game or even rent it for that matter.

Good but Could be better

Although Quake in the past has given us a chalenge and a lot of fun Quake 3 drops the standards for all of its pretacesors, Quake 3 had the weapons they had the graphics they even had the charcters but what they didn't have was originality and a storyline Quake has always been a action packed thriller that kept us up late in the night trying to pass its skillful levels but Quake 3 is nothing more than somebody shooting a whole bunch of people for the h*** of it it has no plot it is like someone just thought of something a they produced out of no were, grant you they do have a wide variety of arenas for you to slaughter various aliens and monsters of all sorts without the levels and the chlange of trying to beat them this game turns out to be nothing more than a waste of time for expierenced gamers such as my self, on the other hand this game is great for little kids who can't beat the chalenges of the real levels, so if you just want to hang out with some friends and see who can kill the most people than this game is for you, but if you are looking for a chalenge than move on my friends this isnt for you. ....

Good graphics, weapon selection, and gameplay, but offers little value for single-player games. Offers nothing new to veterans of the Quake universe exept for clumsy controls.

Terrible

This game is the worst in its genre. After the 2nd quake, which was also bad, came something even worse quake 3 arena. After playing the pc, then renting the game for ps2 i realized that both were bad. Terrible controls, you can't win on normal diffuculty since the guys kill you easily, and the arenas are small and are terrible-looking graphics. Don't buy this game, it is a waste of time and money!
