Risk Fans Only...But Forget About Online Play

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 4
Date: November 19, 2003

In a nutshell this game is a faithful translation of the popular board game. The developers have tried to make the game more interesting but adding a host of unlockable items to keep you interested in single player mode. But the most attractive feature of this version is also the biggest let down. The online play feature works well and even supports the use of a USB headset. However, since Risk is not as popular as say Madden 2004, the pressence of online players is lacking(to put it mildly). Having said that if you are even a passive fan of the board game(and don't mind playing agianst CPU opponents) for the affordable price this is a good buy.

Good realism

I thought the game was very realistic as in it is very close to the board game. the lines the characters say get old fast but other than that it is a very good and realistic game.

This game rocks

No Fixed Sets??? Are you Kidding Me!!!

I bought this game expecting something similar to the previous playstation version of Risk. Easy playability, easy to understand set up screens... and most of all the ability to choose between increasing sets and fixed sets for the risk cards. Apparently the makers of this game did not see any of these as important especially the last one. How could you make a Risk game that forces you to always play some form of increasing sets? Well This game is going back to the store tonight.

Risk game that's made not to be taken seriously. Really!!!

When you play this game it seems you are playing with a bunch of stoned people. I agree that the AI is dumb as a doornail, but the voice acting is so comical that it makes me laugh every time I play it. All the characters seem to be on some kind od drug and they play or say the most random things. The gameplay is ok, but the best part of this game is laughing at the computer AI for their stupid moves and taunts. If you are a true serious Risk fan forget this game, however if you like to play games just to make fun of them this is the one for you!

I love playing risk with my friends when we hang out. We used to just play the board game but I recently bought this one hoping that it would be a faster alternative...and maybe more fun. But, after playing this at home by myself, I discovered there are far too many bugs in this game to make it playable. On my 3rd game, I beat the game by completing the mission, or so I thought anyway, but then it gave the win to one of the other computer players who I had just annihilated. Also, I don't like the controls...its far too easy to accidentally end your turn or fail to move your troops by hitting the circle key. The designers should have implemented a yes/no command option for this reason. Honestly, I found the old Macintosh Risk computer game made over 15 years ago to be a better version than this one. Looks like i'm going to have to return to the old board game version.

Game bugs out

This would be a fun version of the board game.It does a number of things for you.In my case it helps stop my friends from cheating by alloting your armies for you. It also has interesting comments from the computor generals. It has neat battle scenes when you attack. In all It could be a great game. The bugs are what cause its downfall. I couldnt turn in sets untill I had 5 cards. It would say I had 4 cards and then only 1 appears when I look at them.At the start my 6th turn and after having 5 cards it would force me to use them and only then it shows my 5 cards I can use. So till they fix this bug its thumbs down

I stayed away from the board game due to the time it took to play a game as well as finding other people who had that much time. The video game really speads it up and it is always fun to destroy Napolean.
