Where did Spyro go?

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 5 / 5

If you're looking for a Spyro the Dragon game don't buy this one. If, like me, you've been a fan of the past games and are looking forward to this newest game in the series to continue with some great new adventures in the familiar format, don't buy this game. The problem with this game, in my opinion,is that its supposed to be part of an ongoing series, and yet, for all those who are already familiar with the format of Spyro it changes all the rules.

At the very least when you move from one game to another in the same series you expect the basic functions of the character to remain the same. This Spyro changes them. Circle is no longer for flame, square is no longer for charge (in fact they're switched cir. for charege, square for flame-give a good reason for that) and two x's does not make a glide for Spyro. These changes made it extremely difficult to function in the beginning and I continue to get confused. Also, as far as I can tell, there's no longer any way to move the camera when you're just standing about, to get a good view of the whole area, but maybe I just haven't figured that one out yet.

The thing that really bothers me, though, about the newest Spyro game is that the gameplay has completely changed. The whole reason I liked these games in the past is because it was never really about getting passed bad guys, they were always pretty easy. Spyro the Dragon was about exploring three dimensional worlds to find all kinds of hidden object and secret places. It was about being observant of the environment around you because you didn't know where you might miss a crack in the wall you could break through or a ladder on the side of a building that will take you to that hidden cave. This Spyro game tends much more to Crash Bandicoot gameplay; its become about obstacles, swinging axes and wooden logs that move up and down in the way of your path. While obviously some of that existed in the past, it is now one of the main challenges of the game, while the familiar puzzles and challenges that made Spyro different from any other game I've found are gone. If I wanted Crash Bandicoot I would buy Crash Bandicoot, but, I was looking for something else.

There are all kinds of other unnecessary annoying changes. All I can say is that if you liked the other Spyro games, you'll find this one extremely frustrasting and disappointing. If you can get past it, there's an ok game to be played, but just ok.

Best Spyro Game Ever!

If you like Spyro, then you are up for a treat. Enter Spyro: A Hero's Tail and you'll see what everyone is raving about. The graphics are incredible and the manuverability of the characters is fantastic! You really notice the difference when you play Enter the Dragonfly. The old one feels really jerky and odd compared to the new one. The characters are amazing, too. As well as Spyro, you can play as Sparx, Sgt. Byrd, Blink (the mole) and Hunter. The Hunter levels are incredibly fun (so much so that I wish he had his own game!). Being able to buy items from Money Bags is great as well and the only thing to complain about is the high prices! The bosses are pretty much the same as before; no harder, no easier, so expect no surprises there. Also, if you like exploring then you MUST BUY THIS GAME! It's one of the toughest things about this game; getting lost. So, try to remember landmarks so you don't have to go through the same pain I did! Overall, this is great game for every kid and kid at heart!

PROS:
1. incredible graphics, manuverability, and worlds to visit
2. playable characters add to the excitement (Hunter ROCKS!!!)
3. wonderful storyline
4. great stuff to collect on your journey (gems, light gems and dragon eggs)
5. mini-games and bosses are great fun

CONS:
1. it gets frustrating when you have to leave an area of a world because you don't have the right breath ability (but it does give more incentive to finish the game)
2. I got lost quite often in this game and once you get lost, it's hard to get unlost. Take a hint from me; make sure to explore the entire realm that your in before you go to another world. That way, you'll know your way around once you come back. And, when your in a world (remember this once you get to the Underwater Ruins), if you see a light gem or other item of interest, try to get it right away. Chances are, you may not find it again, so be extra thourough.
3. Blink levels and Sparx levels get more challenging as you progress and they're pretty hard, so be careful
4. no fodder where you need it most
5. Money Bag's high prices (ha ha...)

Spyro is NOT the same!!! :(

Ok. Do you remember the "Good old days of Spyro?" Searching for Gems and Orbs and Dragon eggs? Rescueing the Dragons? Defeating Gnasty Gnorc, Ripto and the Sorceriss? (If I spelled any of those correctly...) Is it all coming back to you? That fire-breathing purple Dragon that we all have come to know and love? That is all gone.

Here are what is different about about A Heros Tail,

~Sparx can talk

~Moneybags has some weird accent...

~Hunter has some weird attitude. Not like the old Hunter AT ALL.

~Spyro himself talks differently!!!

~The graphics are TOTALLY different along with the game play.

~I don't remember any happy, pink trees in the other Spyros...

~Music is WAY different. Not the music that when we hear it we say, "HEY! Thats Spyro music!!!"

If you are a huge Spyro fan who has been a fan since the first game came out and have continued to be a fan since then like myself and are expecting another awesome Spyro game like the ones that Insomniac made, do not get this game. Oh, Insomniac... where are you!!! *Sigh* I guess no more awesome Insomniac made Spyro games...

Fun for all ages

This game is great fun!! I have played Spyro on the PS1 console but this is much better. Not all the games have been that much improved, but this is. The graphics are good, the movement smoother, and the beginning walks you through the game features. I did not need a book either to guild through the levels. My frinds 4-year old plays better than the adults, but we all have fun. (He does have limited playing time to only on the weekends for short times)

The Most Amazing Spyro Game EVER!!!!

I love Spyro, he is the cutest thing in the world. He has cool moves, a cute voice and a kick-ass attitude! He is back in this new game: a Hero's Tail. I have Enter the Dragonfly and I definetely prefer this one! ETD seemed too......too......what's that word.....it was too quick and too frustrating, but I love it! Anyway, in this game you can be 5 characters and the only ones I like is Spyro-irresistible! and Hunter-he is so cool and he is almost as cute as Spyro-ALMOST!!!! In Year of the Dragon you could be Sheila, that big abominable snowman/yeti thing and Sgt. Byrd.

I love the story-Red is wicked! The animation is stunning and beautiful. The environments are rich an colourful. Everything about this game is fantastic!!!

I also like Ember, an adorable little pink dragon who is madly in love with Spyro-and he obviously doesn't feel the same way!!! Quote. Ember "Look at this Dark Gem. It's pulsing with evilness. Still it would look nice on an Engagement Ring. Don't ya think Spyro?" Spyro "Aaaaaaah!!!!!" That part was hilarious, I found that really sweet! It is my favourite quote[s] in the whole film!!!!!
I also love Flame, another equally adorable tiny dragon who is trapped in Gnasty's cave. He is cool and has a really cute voice!
I really hope Ember and Flame will be in the next game a lot more!!!!!

The Bosses were quite easy, but, then again, quite hard. Gnasty WAS funny, I loved putting his "Gnarly Butt" on fire and watching him complain!!!
Ineptune was strange, and ugly. She had a great voice and cool moves.
Red is the best villan yet!!! In the next game, they have to have another big, evil dragon like him [but with a better name!!!]

Animation: 10/10 rich, fun and the lighting was done wonderfully!

Characters: 8/10 I only liked Spyro, Ember, Flame, Hunter and Red. And the Elders-they were pretty cool! I also loved Otto-the surfer otter Dude!

Gamplay: 10/10 incredibly fun and exciting. I love paying an adorable little dragon with well sweet moves!!!!

Places/Environments: 9/10 incredible. Absoloutely stunning. My faves being Dragonfly Falls and Red's Laboratory!

Overall, a fantastic game with cute characters, cool environments and fantastis moves. Yong boys and girls will love this and even adults will enjoy it, depending on their taste. It's strange for a girl, but I love dragons and Spyro is No.1 for me! 1000/10!!!

Really good game

After reading some of the reviews of this game on a Gamer's magazine and on-line I was afraid even to play it thinking that I was going to lose my time and money! So I went to the video rental store and rented it.

I liked this game as much as a liked the first three Spyro games for the PS1; I like even more Spyro because he is now like a cool "Teenager Dragon" and Sparks can talk! and has his own mini game!. Moneybags looks kind of cool in his new costume, he is wearing a hat and clothes that makes him look like and old merchant from Europe.

The mini games were a challenge for me on all the past versions of Spyro, but Hunter, Sgt. Bird and Blink changed that and was fun this time, specially the flying parts that for me were frustrating before.

I consider Spyro a good game for kids since is not as violent as many others games are. I play a lot of Mature rated games full of blood and violence (hey, I am 36 years old) but they make me tired, Spyro is awesome and I can play this games for hours and hours of enjoyment.

My recommendation, rent the game first, if you like it, buy it, if you don't like it, you had only lost the rental money and a few hours of your time.

"A Hero's Tail" flames the Dragonfly

When I heard about "A Hero's Tail" I had mixed feelings. After "Dragonfly", I wasn't sure about even trying the latest in the series. Well, I was wrong -not only did I try it, I had trouble turning off the PS2. While Vivendi/Universal hasn't got the touch Naughty Dog/Insomniac did, "Tail" comes closest.

The graphics are good, the levels big, challenging and fun. Sargeant Byrd is about the best part of the game. His mini-games I went back and played repeatedly. A plus for this edition is that you don't run out of lives, although fodder can be hard to come by. And it was just too much fun to flame, freeze, bash, and bomb the Gnorcs, over, and over, and over...

As much fun as this was, it has several drawbacks. Moneybags has this strange accent -kinda sleazy meets smarmy. You have to pay Moneybags to transport within levels. The story just doesn't seem to matter, and there was little interaction between Spyro and other characters. The progression and challenge was uneven: some of the tasks were almost impossible, others too easy. I spent way too much time trying to complete several of the mini games, but blew by the so-called bosses.

My recommendation? Play this Spyro! Beg, borrow or buy the guide, and dash, bash, dive and freeze your way to dragon hero-dom.

And Vivendi -next time, more edge, more interaction between the characters as the story progresses. Hey, just more story. Spyro is back!

I have the demo disk of this and I played it. As it turned out, it was awesome!!! The graphics are pretty great and all. There is a few strange and different things. They all have different voices(except Blink because he hasn't been in recent games), Moneybags is looking different now, and The flame button used to be the circle button and now it is the square button. Charge used to be the square button now it is the circle button. When I first played this game, I thought it wouldn't be all that great. It was!!! I might be getting this for Christmas. If I do, I will play it for quite a while. Since we'll probably have winter break off in school during December,(If I get the game that is)I will play this game constantly. And for all those Spyro Fans out there, I just want you to know this: I am Spyro's Number#1 Fan!! Well, see ya.

the company better hear this

Sypro the dragon games were always fun except the GBA versions. But this is worse than that! And that was pretty bad to begin with. Like I said they were about fun and thinking but this game only focuses on toughness. And the boss namely Red cheat big time and everybody elde seems to have got stuiper even the Professor. And Blinx's levels are the worst with those hard jumps which is the easiest way to annoy a gamer. So from a pro don't get this game rent if you just want to see how lame the series has gotten.
