This game is ridiculous. All they did was take Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones from Gamecube, slapped a new name on it, and made it Wii compatible. If you have played The Two Thrones, this game is a complete waste of money and time. However, if you have never played The Two Thrones, but enjoy Prince of Persia in general, this may be a good investment.

Oops the Wii is actually a success?!?! Quickly now! Put out something, anything

My recommendation if you haven't played this already? Buy the gamecube version for a lot less and use a "normal" controller. I love the Wii and have a hard time playing with a gamecube controller these days but read on to see why I recommend it...

I'm pretty sure that my title sums up what went on at ubisoft a few months ago. Ok, so it's a port of an old game. I can understand that they were taken off guard and needed to get something out, quickly, so instead of creating a bunch of new content they port over an old game that's already been ported to the PSP. I never got around to playing this one so I was excited to check it out on the wii ... little did I know.

My first complaint is the most important one. The controls. They put absolutely zero creativity into the controls. They have replaced one button with "swing wiimote" and another button with "swing nunchuck" ... and that's it. Oh, they did some stupid "turn the wiimote like a key to adjust the camera" thing but i disabled that after about 10 minutes because it walked a fine line of being too sensitive when you didn't want to turn the camera (be sure to hold the controller flat when walking a narrow plank) and not being sensitive enough when you need to quickly move the camera. So it's d-pad camera action for me.

So both the buttons I mentioned above have to do with combat (swing your dagger or swing your sword) so when you are playing the puzzles (some of my favorite parts of PoP games) you are basically playing with a normal controller. It's all buttons and thumbpad, no waving of the controllers to be had. So the puzzles were fun, but the wii controller added nothing to it.

As you may know already this game has a "stealth" attack mode. If you sneak up on someone you can swing the nunchuck and he goes into attack mode. If you are sure to hold the wiimote nice and still and then swing it randomly when the screen changes color you can kill an enemy in anywhere from 1-5 moves with zero risk to yourself. Now when you are playing as the dark prince this changes a bit. You see instead of swinging the wiimote at the right times you now have to swing it over and over again, kind of like you are mashing a button ... uh hello???? Talk about annoying. I could pull it off about 65% of the time but it was very annoying to sit there swinging the wiimote around like a freaking idiot.

So while this stealth thing was cool with a normal controller it pretty much sucks with the way they set it up on the wii. While it's easy to not press a button until you need to, it's not so easy to pull off the "do not move the wiimote too much because the game will think you are swinging" maneuver. Oh yeah, and button mashing should be left to buttons, ok? thanks!

So now imagine that this stealth thing is incorporated into some of the boss stages, except that they make it more difficult with less room for error so that you must swing your wiimote like an idiot at the perfect moment (better do it a few times to make sure the game knows you are in fact trying to swing). Sometimes you don't even know that you are in this "stealth" mode until the game says "you timed it wrong". huh?? what?!?!?! oh, i guess i have to make sure NOT to swing when i'm standing on the giant's head, silly me, thought i was trying to kill him. Guess I'll just spend another 30 seconds trying to get back up there again. Gee I wish the camera would stop freaking out so I could actually see where i'm going.

[spoilers in regards to what the end boss stage plays like ... i suggest you read it though as it's the weakest boss stage I've ever seen]

By the end boss this stealth thing is completely out of hand. At one point you are trying to dodge a bunch of random blocks going around in circles while trying to run up a wall and then you have about a 1/2 second window to activate the stealth mode and then an even smaller window to perform each of the stealth attacks. You have to perform all 3-4 of in a row perfectly for _any_ damage to take place. Then you have to repeat this incredibly difficult maneuver 3 times before you can move onto the 3rd stage of this boss. Oh, and say you mess up a little and decide to retry with a sand tank (go back in time) ... well i believe there is a bug where if you have done this in the middle of the stealth attack the timing is off. Now you have to swing the wiimote like a fool _before_ it tells you too. I found this out after many wasted rewinds and lots of frustration.

Did I mention the moving blocks? Yeah well they are incredibly annoying because the camera stays centered on the boss and the blocks come from behind you, randomly, giving you very little opportunity to dodge them. Sometimes he will throw you to the ground right in front of a block (double ouch), get up and you get smacked by a 2nd (ouch for the 3rd time). These blocks also do more damage then he does and more damage then when the hurls them at you .. go figure.

I did all this once and then found myself trying to climb up blocks while the boss is hurling fireballs at me from above (again you can't see them coming). Basically you have to save all your sand tanks and use them when you get knocked off the blocks because the blocks are high in the air and you'll instantly die otherwise.

The final straw for me was when I was trying to get the stealth attack timing right for the 54th time and the game froze on me. This was not the first, second or even 3rd bug that I had encountered ... but I couldn't take any more. The game is going back tomorrow, thank god for being able to return used games to EB!

Disappointed

Loved the Prince of Persia Trilogy! Had it for our Computer and we completed all three challenges. So when I saw that another one came out for the Wii I though great! Something more interactive for my husband to play. However, I was disappointed to find out that even though the game had a different name it was the same exact game as the TWO THRONES. So unfortunately I feel as though I wasted money!

i expected this game to be episode 4 out of the series.... i was wrong. this game is nothing more then The Two Thrones using the wii controls. all in all the game is too easy in my opinion. and the camera controls are pretty sketchy. if you loved The Two Thrones and want to try it out on the wii... this game is for you. if you were looking forward to a brand new episode of this series... sorry to disappoint you.

I'm gonna have to disagree with Lisa Shea. This game blows! This is coming from someone who has never really played any of the Prince of Persia franchises. If your idea of fun is jumping and hanging from ledges by all means this is your game. I will however give it up for the controls which are pretty responsive and intuitive. Try Zelda or Godfather for a better time.

Dissapointing

I enjoyed both Prince of Persia: Sands of Time for Xbox, and Prince of Persia 2 Warrior Within on my Xbox, and I was excited to see what the Wii's innovative controller would bring to the franchise. I was disappointed.

The game play was largely similar to the previous games except for the implementation of stealth kills, which are, for the most part, a tedious addition. Moreover, the controls are overly simplified and while you do swing the remote their is no comparison between how you swing and how the prince swings. Overall the game came across as a quick port in a slightly tired concept. I still think that there is a lot of potential in the Prince of Persia franchise and I will rent the next game in the series in the hopes that it improves. Until then I will wait patiently for someone to create a sword fighting game that does the Wii justice. Ninja Gaiden anyone?

Good story, fun gameplay, and ok visuals... but outdated

I had fun and that's the main point. Combat is pretty bad with the Wii remote but not impossible to learn, but the stealth attacks are great fun to watch and perform. A few glitches and the visuals look like Xbox, which isn't bad, but could be a LOT better.

GREAT RERELEASE OF THE PS2 GAME

OK, OK. So this is basically a re-release of a ps2 game on the Wii. Better yet, it is are-release of the gamecube game for the wii. That is the main gripe you will here about the game. Truely this is a little annoying. However, is it really all that bad? First off, it is a really fun game in the first place. The action and puzzles are a perfect match. Second, with the Wii you have new, more immersive controls. That right there is a big bonus. Now, the bad side is that these controls can be a little annoying at times. But who cares, using motion control in a game like Prince is fun even for the novelty. People keep whining about tacked on controls, but who cares they are fun and novel controls that give you a completely different experience even if it is the same game. Lastly, my hope is that this trend continues. Old PS2 games and gamecube games coming out on the wii for a new experience and for gamers that missed out on them, the first go aroung. Isn't that what the virtual console is all about anyway? Now, if only they could lower the price on these re-hashed games. That would make much more sense. Bottom Line: Great game, fun controls, but a bit on the pricey side for a re-release.

BEST GAME EVER just one little problem

like i said BEST GAME EVER even though there is a problem that occassionally gets annoying, its the camera veiw. every time you move the wii remote even if its just a little the camera veiw will change. but other than that the game boils down to a jerk that wants imortality by stealing your girlfreinds power which kills her and you get pretty darn mad and go after him to kill him. thats as far as i got so far but youll love it after the first few minuts you play it. trust me.

Good Game

I begin with saying this: yes, this is a remake of Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. That was a good game and this game is too. Yes, you do find yourself on ledges and ladders and climbing a lot, but the game is fun overall. The action is exciting and the motion sensing remote makes the game even better. Swinging the remote does make you look like an idiot, but it makes you feel like you're in the game. While the graphics are not the best the game play makes up for it. This might not be your game, but I think that this game deserves at least a rental.
