Ignore the haters...Buy Hour of Victory!

Okay, the reviews of popular magazines and websites are what usually makes or breaks a game, and I believe that Hour of Victory received an unfair advantage here.

First, it's a WWII game that is not, and so should not be compared to the Medal of Honor, and Call of Duty series. And second, this game is not about being in an infantry of soldiers; it's all about playing your part as one of three elite fighters consisting of a Sniper, Stealth dude, and a straight on up-in-your-face Gunner. I'm sure that if other reviewers played this game with this mindset, then the score would have been a lot higher.

The one thing that makes Hour of Victory stand out above all other WWII shooters is the sheer aggressiveness of the Nazi soldiers. I have played all the other games and none of them as an enemy this tenacious and deadly! They will keep coming at you, and you will feel like a rat trapped in a cage with the only way out is to shoot for your life.

Want to see realistic weapon fire and recoil action? Then play this game. As a military specialist, I have used every weapon you can imagine, and none of the other games (except COD4 of course) in this genre comes even close to the realistic gun play found in Hour of Victory.

The graphics are done with a different game engine than the Call of Duty series and so the results are realistic animations, that really kicks up the action a few nudges. And the sound and music are appropriate enough to draw you in.

All-in-all, Hour of Victory is a great game that does not deserve the harsh reviews it has received. Also, its new lowered price tag makes this a classic not to be ignored.

Why are people trashing this game?

I thought this game was excellent and very well produced. I have read negative reviews, but are all of your opinions based on you; as a firs-person shooter only? Have you played this game with 12 others friends at the same time? Have you played it on-line? This is where the game is shows its true colors. My only gripe is the annoying music because I cannot find an option to turn it off. I only want the sound of the gun battle without "Mozart" blasting in the background. I thought it worth the $60.00 I paid and will this game will sit nicely beside my COD Big Red One.

Hour of Victory is Not a Bad Game But Could Be Better.

I bought Hour of Victory today and I played through part of the first mission and so far I like the game up to a certain point. I noticed right away the game has some good points and it has some bad points.

First with the good points. The graphics are really good and the enemy soldiers acts just the way you would expect them to. They run and hide for cover whenever they can. It is not real easy to get past the enemy soldiers. The A.I. is not too bad. At the beginning of the game there are three different soldiers with different skills you can choose to play throughout the game. You can hit the enemy head on with one soldier who is expert at running and gunning. Or if you want you can choose another soldier who is a expert with a sniper rifle to climb up on a rope to a building roof top to shoot down below at the enemy. Or you can choose another soldier who is an expert at sneaking up on the enemy to cut through barb wire and pick the locks to open doors to buildings. Each soldier has special skills that is unique to that particular soldier. You decide before the beginning of each mission what soldier you want to be in the game. I also like the background music in the game. It really adds to the atmosphere.

Now for the bad points. The game is not perfect. The game developers need to come out with some patches to fix Hour of Victory not to be just a good game, but to be a great game. I hate how game developers show you screen shots and game videos of what the game is suppose to look like and then when you buy the game and start to play it you find out the game looks and acts totally different. The first thing the game developers need to do is do away with the gigantic weapon's crosshair circle that is permanently in front of you every where you go. You can't get rid of it. It is very annoying to have a gigantic crosshair circle in front of you everywhere you go. It ruins the game because the graphics are great and then you have this stupid huge crosshair circle that is constantly in front of you blocking your view. I didn't see this gigantic weapon's crosshair circle in any of the game's screenshots or videos. So why put it in the game? I don't get it. Second, give the player a choice on how to set up your Xbox 360 game controller. I don't like how the controls are set up now on the game controller and you can't change them. When I'm using a weapon, I like the aim button for using your iron cross sights in front of the controller. I don't like the way it is set up now by pressing the right stick down to try to aim a weapon. It is on the same side as the firing button on your controller. You can't change it. What is up with that? On the main menu in the game where options selection is, you can't really do anything to change the game. In fact there are hardly any choices at all to change the game settings. It almost feels like the game developer are saying your going to play the game the way we tell you to and you can't change anything. Hey we're not babies. Let us have the the options or choices on how to set up and play the game.

Game developers need to give a player choices on how to play a game. Let the player decide how they want to play the game. Don't force the player to be stuck playing a game one way and that is it. I recommend getting Hour of Victory only after the game has been fix with patches. Playing the game the way it is set up now is way too frustrating. I love World War II games as long as there done right by the game developer.

(Quick Update: I contacted the game publisher Midway to see if you can change anything in the game and they told me that you are stuck with the game the way it is. I am very disappointed. It is really sad. The game had so much potential. This will be another game that will be hitting the bargain bin in the near future.)

What this game does is give you a small taste of what is coming out later on this year when on August 28, 2007 Medal of Honor: Airborne comes out. Now there is a game that looks like it being done right by the game developers. That is definitely going to be one of top games of the year. I can't wait for Medal of Honor: Airborne to come out. Even though Hour of Victory has it faults, I guess it will just have carry me over until Medal of Honor: Airborne comes out later on this summer.

This game is terrible. I was looking forward to a new name in World War II shooters, but this is just more of the same done worse. The controls were a little annoying, but you'd get used to them. Graphics are no where near as good as they were saying they would be. Missions were boring and character specialties (Sniping, stealth etc.) were more a nuisance then a fun addition to the genre. I'd suggest picking up Call of Duty 2, its half the price and at least 5 times as good.

good graphics, REALLY bad gameplay

my title says it all. thank god i rented this game instead of buying it. the only reason i gave this game 2 stars is because of the graphics. when the demo first came out on xbox live marketplace, i gave it a try and the gameplay was horrible. when this game was released i gave it a rent. i played for about 1 hour, then took it back the next day. i really tried my best to like this game. take my advice, if you want to give this game a try then rent before you buy.

Not as bad as said, but that doesnt make it good.

Hour of Victory is an FPS that tries out the whole diversity with the characters pitch, and the awesomely derivative dialogue. The game is basically a weak FPS, with no real point and sense of what it wants to be, with that said, it still does have some value. You can get some easy achievements, and it only cost me $12, so no real loss. Basically, this game is a very linear, short, and generic FPS. If you see it for cheap maybe buy it, but dont expect anything great.

Save yourself while you still have a chance!

No ammount of hoping and wishing for a new quality game in this genre can change the utter piece of cr*p this game is. After just a few minutes I realized what HOV was, but forced myself to play an entire hour, not to be sure, but because I so much didn't want to to have wasted $60!
In over a dozen years of gaming, this is the first time I asked for my money back because "this game bl*ws"(thanks EB). Next time I'll believe the online peer reviews .

Don't waste your time or money.

Hour of Victory aims to be a Call of Duty knockoff. It fails miserably. Online play is abysmal and after a few missions of the campaign you just won't be able to take it anymore.

Do yourself a favor and buy a different WW2 FPS, or rent this.
