This brain-exercising game actually seems to work

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

The Good: Most of the included games are actually kind of fun. My mind actually feels sharper after a focused Brain Age session! Plus, you can track your progress over time. Sudoku is an excellent added bonus.
The Bad: Could have used a few more types of games; they get a bit repetitive after a week or so, and that makes it hard to stick with the routine.
The Ugly: Trying to get the voice recognition to understand the word "BLUE!!!"

fun

like it alot, has helped my memory, sometimes it misreads numbers so your score is lower than it should be.

A great adult game for the DS!

If you have a Nintendo DS, you know that there are not too many games for adults to play. Thankfully, not only is Brain Age an adult game, but it also is supposed to work your brain!

So what's to like about this game? As I said above, it's good to see an adult game for the DS on a portable game system that is geared towards kids. Second, a lot of the games are really fun! You start off taking a test that determines your brain age. Then you must play other games that will score you on how fast you complete the game and how many answers you got right. Eventually, more and more games and options are unlocked when you play certain games. Some of the games include calculation (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing), counting syllables, reading aloud, counting how much time has passed using pictures of clocks, along with others. Third, the price is great for a game that is this well made!

What's not to like? First, it can get boring very quickly. The "host" of the game wants you to play the game everyday but it's difficult to do so when you just don't feel like doing math or reading. Second, I can't say I have noticed a real improvement brainwise with this game. My results are different everytime I play. Sometimes I do really well. Other times I don't do well at all. Apparently this game is supposed to help with memory problems. I can't say that's accurate in my case although I have found that I can do math problems quicker than I used to.

If you're looking for a good adult game with some extra benefits, be sure to pick this one up!

Love this game!

I have been enjoying this game. Some things I would get rid of. Not allowing you to train yourself more than once a day. Drawing the pictures. I found myself very addicted to the Sudoko part of it. Good buy and I can only hope that Nintendo figures out so many of us like the way that the Sudoko is played on this game that they create one all in itself.

decent alternative to typical mindless video game fare

This is a very fun game, wish I could get some more time on my kid's DS. It's fun to work on improving your "brain age" score - the program rates you in terms of brain age from 20 years (awesome) to 80 years (brain dead). The exercises are varied and it's fun to compete with the other members of the household. The game also has sudoku puzzles which are very fun to do.

Note - Amazon shows this product as a CD but of course it is a DS cartridge. Would be nice to get a version of this someday for the PC or the Palm.

I bought this game because of all the hype it's been getting and couldn't be happier! It is challenging, interesting and lots of fun. I find myself playing it at home instead of watching TV! The Sudoku games are equally addictive. Get it!

This game is great fun for people of all ages. There are a number of different games that rotate in and out so it keeps your interest. My only complaint is that the first game requires that you be able to speak and you have to play that game when you want to get a new brain age. Brain Academy has a wider variety of games so I actually find myself playing that more often.

Very nice brain work-out

This is a very well put together brain work-out. When "playing" it for the first time (or with any new file), the host, Dr. Kawashima, uses illustrations to demonstrate a brain's activity (shown in red and yellow) while solving simple math problems or reading aloud. Research has demonstrated now that the problems do not have to be difficult - just something to keep the mind active. The neuroscientist has come to the conclusion that persons with some form of cognitive impairment who participate in some of these exercises can prevent worsenign of the condition and actually improve brain function (taken from game insert). With that said, the simple calculations are designed to help improve your own brain function by challenging the player to perform such activities as quickly as possible.

There are a variety of activities to choose from for this purpose and it is recommended that these exercises be performed on a daily basis albeit for a short period of time - training can be completed in a mere 15 minutes. Certainly, practice makes perfect and players may find themselves improving in simple calculations to the point that they are second nature.

A very nice addition is the Sudoku puzzles - what's nice here is that for novel players, the option of having the game tell you when a number is wrong is very helpful (albeit the player can only make 5 wrong guesses).

All in all, a very simple way to keep the mind active!

should come bundled with the DS

This game could be the only reason you should buy a DS. If you are over the age of 25 and work in a uninspiring environment, this game will help. Brain Age is not really fun but it becomes an obsession. If you are under 25, buy this game to keep you from feeling over 50.
