Great to Play at a Friends, though repetitive

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 10

This game is great when you look past the many drawbacks. I'll focus on the good things first.
1.This games has much better graphics than the PS2, and much smoother running.
2.The gameplay is still the best part, though gets repetitive to kill a boss 4 times in one level.
3.The battle screams and gruns are great.
4.The voice acting is pretty funny.
5.One word...ELEPHANTS!!!

The bad things:

1.There is only 9 yes 9 levels. They really should think about putting more in.
2.The characters just get too powerful.
3.Mesou mode was kind of dumb. They should have put like: Beserk or Adreneline Rush
4.The levels are the same for all the characters.
5. Vs mode is gay.

Action and strategy, artfully balanced

A fantasy-type action and strategy game based on the incredible Chinese war epic "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Dynasty Warriors allows you to play as one of 2 dozen generals representing three warring kingdoms. In action mode it's like a third-person slasher, where you wield an awesome-looking weapon to chop your enemies into pieces (although the "Mousou" attack mode -- Japanese for unequalled -- seems quite silly). But there's more. You need to think about the overall battle strategy, and when hashing your way around the throngs of enemy officers and foot soldiers, you need to watch out for other battles happening at the same time and respond accordingly.

The Xbox version offers enhanced graphics (e.g., fog!) and sound over the one-year-old PS2 version. The difference in graphics is actually quite noticeable: when I played the PS2 version earlier this year, I was frustrated with the inadequate graphics which made some battle scenes difficult to play. The Xbox version is much smoother and easier on the eyes... something you'll appreciate when surrounded by dozens of enemies at a time.

The one downside to the game is its replay value: even though you can play as many characters, the number of battles is rather small, and some of them are so tough that you just wouldn't want to play a second time.

a little too late...

I bought DW3 for PS2 as soon as it was released. I love the game, and it has a lot of replay value. But now, i am a little disappointed. XBOX released Dynasty Warriors 3, and i'm already seeing preview of Dynasty Warriors 4 for PS2, and no word of an XBOX version. While 3 is a great game, and this version does have some fun add-ons...such as extra costumes for each character, and the ability to choose a player character as your bodyguard...but still, i wish that Microsoft would have just waited until part 4 came out. This is a 5 star game, but in my opinion, it's outdated, hence the one-star penalty.

Great

This is a great game ... it has repeat playability, smooth gameplay and superb graphics, but
the game tends to be a bit repetitive, as the moves and combos performed by your character just keep repeating.
Also, the voice acting in the game is ... simply put ... crappy beyond measure ...
They should have kept the game with subtitles with original japanese or chinese voice acting, or
used professional actors to do the voice acting, so that there could be some emotion to what they're saying.

Aside from those two minor setbacks, the game is worth playing. I can only hope they improve it for the next release.

This game is great because you get to see enemies fly at the press of a few buttons. I have never played 1 or 2 and i'm glad i would probably say something like not another Dynasty Warrior game. But because i have only played this one it is really good for me:

Pros:
*Over 40 characters
*Extremly Addictive
*2 player coop
*See enemies fly with the touch of a few buttons
*Change bodyguards to officers
*Cool items and new weapons

Cons:
*Repetitive
*Poor 2 player vs mode

Just something to finish off if u buy this game and want to complete it. It will take you a long time. I have finished the whole game with every character and still not got all weapons and items.

some bugs and some stages very hard

I would mention some details about the game which other people haven't mentioned. I would say there are a few bugs in the game, at least to me. I will call them the "off-fence bugs". In the stage of "Guan Yu's Escape, at the last gate I knocked the last genenal Xiahou Dun off the cliff and I couldn't find him no more. His position is still on both the radar and the map but he is down in the hill and won't be able to get back. So I couldn't kill (reach) him and was unable to finish the mission because the gate is closed without finishing him.

Other situation of the bug is at the fence of the enemy camps, i.e. where there is gate captain, when you knocked out a general or officer off the fence, you can not get the meat bum or items from them. You can see the item but cannot reach it. It's in the other side of the fence which you can not cross.

Some details:
It's better not to play with the commander. If you use Sima Yi or Zhuge Liang and just sit at your HQ, you will be finished by your enemy soon. Your computer allies are stupid, in most situations they stay intact and will be eliminated by the enemy. You have to finish all the enemy officers yourself. There's certain way to finish every stage. I tried different ways in playing Yi Ling and Wu Zhang Plains in Difficult mode. But either lots of my allies died or I ran out of time to save my commander Zhuge Liang. In Wu Zhang Plains I simply went to Sima Yi directly and finished him with trial and errors (use arrows, Musou charge, run, etc). I only knocked out 3 enemy soliders and killed Sima Yi within 10 minutes. The process is very hard and my bonus is negative. So I believe each game you have to follow certain ways of play, in order to get good points.

BTW, when I finished the hard mode with Guan Yu, his attack bar and defense bar are full and I unlocked the "very hard" mode whic I do not want to try. With all the difficulties and generals you can play this game for ever.

Dynasty Warriors 3

I think dynasty warriors 3 is a big improvment from the old one.I mean sure it gets a little repetative after beating a ton of soldiors but over all its a good game. Theres some new tricks to learn ,such as dubble musuo atacks, to fully master the game. Its a little hard at times aswell but still fun.

Definitely lots of Action.

After playing Dynasty Warrior 3, I now truly understand the fun of a real action games that involves very little strategy yet keeps you playing. Dynasty Warrior's story line is based on Chinese Han dynasty story translated 3 Kingdoms which are represented by the main characters in this game. The game covers major events, but does not satisfy itself compare to strategy versions of Three Kingdoms. Gameplay is okay, you basically walk or get on a horse and wack everyone around you, and when you get a special (Musuo) you go on a rampage and wack 10 or 15 ppl or however many are around you. The downside is that your "bodyguards" barely fights, they stand around and the enemy first stand around too. They face off for 5 second and then start whacking. AI of enemy is okay, they surround you and then attack you one at a time which sometimes knocks you silly(you can't move) thats how you mainly get killed. Sound is done okay, nothing worth mentioning, nothing bad either. Replay value is highly moderate because in order to get more characters you have to beat the game with original characters, and in order to get special weapon for certain characters you would also have to replay the missions, but thats not really bad because the missions are fun and you make people fly around all over the place. Overall, this game is great, I play it alot, and I find it satisfying enough for my taste so I find this game cheaper thrill than Dynasty Warrior 4 (which includes 1 or 2 more new characters or new features.)
