C&C Generals is not complete without the expansion pack. All the cool new units, how detailed the vehicles are,but I would sure like if there were naval units to move around.Naval units only come in the campaign and all you can do is call artillery strikes and aircraft.Even some river boats would be nice.I like the fact your rotate buildings io fit where you want them. When I first got the expansion,I played for hours, more than I played with just plain C&C Generals. If you are ok at strategy games,I recommend putting the difficulty on medium. On easy, you can destroy your enemies with just ten tanks. On hard, you need to start building right away or the enemy will attack 5 minutes in the game.Overall, this is the tightest modern strategy game ever!

Worth having, i know..

I had generals with this zero hour expansion but for some reason my zero hour disc disappeared. Maybe my 2 year old son put it in the trash i don't know but the point is that for a while i was forced to play regular generals after having the expansion and it was quite a change.

Part of the reason zero hour is such a nice addition is that generals originally was limited in some areas. China for example had only one air unit the meig. Zero hour adds a helicopter with multiple upgrade options. The USA used to have one defensive structure the patriot. Zero hour adds a cannon that can hold 4 infantry to beef up the fire power. Zero hour also adds many fine large maps of which generals has few. I'm talking about the 6 and 8 player maps that are great for long time epic wars with a buddy or 2 or 3.

The greatest feature zero hour gives you aside from the obvious additional missions are the more specialized militarys you can play with. Aside from the three main ones USA, China and the sneaky GLA you can now fight with USA airforce a specialized version or GLA chemical, or china infantry or tank. there are three specialized militaries of each; this increases your options from 3 militarys to choose from to 12. It opens up so many strategic possibilities because if you are the airforce specialization of the USA for example that means that while your air units are cheaper your ground units might be more expensive and heavy tanks are not available at all. It just gives you options and that is what we all want.

For those who like to play single player zero hour gives you an extra general's challenge campaign in which you take one specialized military and try to beat all the other 8 specialized militaries(generals) one at a time. Each matchup is fought on a map well suited to your opponent and takes on qualities of both a skirmish and a mission. Once you defeat one you move to the next and at the hardest level it is a chore. Many of the maps for the general's challenge are interesting but unfortunately not available for multiplayer.

Overall this is a great addition to a great game. As usual, always a command and conquer product that is solid all around. No other RTS series delivers such quality time and time again. I have all the C&C games except renegade and all are 5 star quality.

What Generals should've been to start with.

This expansion, quite simply, makes Generals the game it should've been to start with, and comparable in amusement with the classic version of Warcraft III.
Some of the boredom from classic Generals has been removed by adding in the variable of specialty generals, so you can play in a style that's more fitting to your tactics, and small improvements have been made to make the interface seem less clunky, such as moving the superweapon launch button up with the rest of the general powers buttons. Unfortunately, some annoying things didn't get fixed, such as not being able to skip past the long "cinematics".
A new mode of play called Challenge has been added as well, where the computer takes on one of the unique personalities of one of the new generals, and you'll get to listen to their cute/stupid taunts while you demolish their base.
As for the new added graphics, they aren't that impressive, as there's nothing really eye-popping, and the "Mother of all Bombs" sadly looks like the Chinese Nuke's girly little cousin instead.
Anyhow, a good try by EA Games, but I'm still waiting for another expansion that makes it equal to Frozen Throne in terms of playability. I'd suggest buying Zero Hour if you've already got Generals (a good fix for a sub-par game), but I'd wait until the price drops...

Not as good as it could have been

Bloatware. The "artists" spent their time and energy making some pretty graphics that will challenge your video card, and frustrate your internet connection if you have anything less than state of the art. As far as game play, step backward regarding on-line playing. Serious lag even with a high speed connection. No way to communicate effectively with other players and hard to turn off the audio to enhance performance. Starcraft Brood War(a 4 year old game) is superior. The AI is less than top notch. And forget about the QA people actually getting the bugs out. Maps have all sorts of bugs, and for an upgrade, try to import older C&C maps?
Where are specification on unit performance? It trial and error to figure out ranges and weapon effectiveness.
EA games seems to want to "challenge everything" except producing a top notch game. I was disapointed by this expensive add on product.
My recommendation, hold off and get Zero Hour on the cheap.

guys dont be fooled by this extension pack..its totally unstable go to any search engine and look for more informations...ull notice more pple complaining about this guy than voting for it...i enjoyed the game c&c generals and when i saw Zero hour thought its some extension pack like any other game..it turned out a poor game which doesnt work...EA games are trying to blame our systems for the bugs..i bought whole new pc paid around 2000 dollars "nearly bought a very hight performance pc" but this this game is causing problems....some time ot starts and mostly it crashed to the desktop with a serriour error msg....there are roumers about EA games trying to direct the market more into simulations and RPG games than strategies " guess just roumers" i think u can wait couple more month before u buy until a stable patch shows up....

I've always been interested in Generals since my cousin just got the first and second game. The new C&C Generals Zero:Hour is so tight, the new units are cool like the Battle Bus, Combat Cycle, and others! The Generals challage is very cool with all the different tactics, units, and Generals promotion!!! Even though some Generals have tanks, they weaknesses, so think wisely!
Out of all this, it's a great game! So if you have a very fast computer buy the first and second Generals game! If your parents won't let you buy it Just Get It!!! Generals/Generals Zero:Hour Rocks! If you want to know the units, struture, upgrades, and Generals promotion don't ask me even though I told you 2 units, You better get the game then you'll know the units and stuff!
