An excellent game that steam won't let you play

Counter-Strike Source itself is a great game. Repeatedly starting a round over in the same map can get tiresome, but for the most part the gameplay is enough to keep you going. IN my rating, the game itself deserves at least a 4 star rating. Because you have to have the steam client to run it, however the game is, for me, dragged down to a 2.
In my experience, you'll only be able to click on the counter-strike icon, get it to load, get it connected to a server and play, about 45% of the time. The other 65% of the time, well, there are a variety of steam related problems. Steam updates are the most frequent, i think, though they don't last too long it is annoying to be told when you can or cannot play a game that you bought fair and square. Being disallowed from setting up your own server with bots because "Steam is not connected to the internet". Steam's tendency to remove the game from your "My Games" list, deny that you own it and have installed it, then ASK YOU TO BUY IT AGAIN, is more troubling. The fact that this has happened 4 times in the 6 months that I have owned the game is perhaps criminal. The customer support is useless, waiting 2 weeks to respond to queries because there is nothing useful in the forums.
The kicker is that people who have stolen illegal copies of the game, cracked not to need steam, will be able to click the icon and play the game while you're looking for your installation disc.

Okay, this is my favorite game even though i got it more than a year ago, why?
Well one reason is it's really fun, fast paced squad based action. It's hard and somtimes easy. And people are always creating new maps almost every day.
There are also many modes to play (mods). My favorite mode is called zombie survival. basically one player is turned into a zombie and the other players (both teams) help out to kill the zombie. The zombie only has a knife, but it only has to hit an enemy once to kill/convert it into a zombie.

An Addicting First-person Shooting Game....

Counter-strike Source is a fantastic gaming experience. The game is gorgeous (if your computer is able to handle the graphics) and the sound is intense.

At first, you may be disoriented (I began running around shooting like a madman as if I was playing a Quake game). But soon, you will realize how to play. You can't just run into a room with guns a-blazing.

The game interface is simple (point and shoot) but the game play may be difficult or even frustrating; practice makes perfect though!

I play this game with my house-mates and we love every minute. Buy it and host a LAN party; just don't kill each other if you lose. Some people who play this game online play too often (get a life you losers)!

I don't get it...

I just simply don't understand... why we should buy this... it only has 3 multiplayer games... even is you buy the HL2 retail version or via Steam you can get this other 3, except for DOD which is has to be buy it via Steam...

Not Really Worth It

Simply put, you can buy half life 2,which is cheaper, and get 3 of these games. But if you dont want half life 2, someone should beat you, this would be a perfect package. Also, for ten more dollars, you can get this and HL2 all from steam and never leave the house, no shipping. You dont really want deathmatch anyway. It sucks.
Still great games, but if you like them, they all started out as mods for half life. Just buy HL2.

Counter-Strike--The most overrated game I've ever seen

Counter-Strike is a Half-Life mod that allows people to fight as the terrorists or counter-terrorists. This is done on a massively multiplayer setting, so don't play if your connection is bad. On the bright side (what a small margin), the weapon choices and gameplay is raw and realistic. Source has also done a very nice job souping up the graphics and gameplay and banning hackers. However, counter-strike is definitely not for little kids. It is gory and expletive filled. A typical death of a Counter-striker would run something like this:

Player1: OMGWTF you killed me
Player2: i are pwning you

Seriously, if it weren't for Source's auto-censoring, it could be worse than Snakes on a Plane language combined with Good Will Hunting language, mixed in with kindergartener grammar. It's very frustrating to be killed numerous times and have to wait another round. Unlike Halo's wonderful layout and intensive gameplay, Counter-Strike delivers a cheapened, vulgar version.

Simply the best game i ever played

When i first got this game i played non stop literally. i've had thhis for about half a year and i am still not the best at it. it takes a long time to get good at this game. anyway, i've played non stop every chance i get for half a year. its literally the most addicting game i ever played, its not like one of those games that u just play for a month and give up on it , i mean its ADDICTING. ok now we go into the game. there r 2 teams or sides, the terrorists and the counter-terrorists. there r 2 "missions": the terrorists plant a bomb and te CT's (counter terrorists) have to kill the T's or defuse the bomb or there r hostages and CT's have to rescue them. the only real difference betweeen terrorists and counter-terrorists in this game r the guns. i think personally the CT's have better guns but thats my opinion.
Bottomline: This game is so much fun its addicting like no other game before. SO GET IT NOW!!!

Very very addictive

Having played Delta Force Land Warrior for over 4 years and watching it die, I was out for a new game. I heard and read both the ups and downs of CSS before I bought it. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do: I was very skeptical, and like any other online game, CSS has it's cheaters and longer downloads when you're just starting out. (I really recommend a highspeed connection such as DSL for this game.)

It was the best game purchase I ever made. Even though you might need a few tips from other people who play the game, and might spend a little more time than you might like dead and watching other people kill and be killed, it's totally worth it once you get the hang of it.

I wouldn't say that the violence is TOO bad, just alot more blood than usual, but it is at a realistic level. Just be prepared to see and hear more of the vulgar side of things in regard to sensuality, becuase, you are playing with a bunch of real live people. I definitely would never recommend this game to anyone under 18 for that reason, but there are servers that are supposed to be clean that you can visit.

Amazon has the best price of anyone out there...yeah I always do my homework in regard to price. If you buy it, you will definitely have a hard time pulling away from your computer.

This is a great game, with high-end graphics, and takes full advantage of Direct X9.0. Although if you have a slower computer, youcan lessen the graphics to prioratise performance, but it totally ruins the game. Don't buy this game if you are not toattly into computers, cos the people who playit are on a lot, and they are GOOD. But source has a Single player vs. bots mode as well.

A very great game. I dont have this game but I used to play the older counter-strike 1.5. But my friend has this game and its way better. Awesome graphics and gameplay, newly designed maps and weapons. Runs really smooth. Very great shooter multiplayer online game for PC. If your a PC gamer and like shooters, this game is for you. Definately. Its a really addicting game and I used to play the older one alot. But I recommend this you get this game with the package, the Half-Life 2 one.
