The Longest Journey

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

I'm not a huge computer game fan, but my computer-geek boyfriend occasionally turns me onto one and I get hooked. This game was easy to play, and the story kept my interest up to the end. There was a lot of thinking and no fighting involved, which made the game much more enjoyable for an uncoordinated girl like me. If there were more games like The Longest Journey out there, I might turn into a full-fledged computer geek myself!

The Longest Dialogue

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 2 / 2

An interesting central character (April) who is voiced well, good 2D scenery, and a reasonably fantastic storyline is tempered somewhat by dialogue exchanges that go on forever. Feel free to pluck your eyebrows, do some light reading, exfoliate, whatever quiet activities you may have been putting off, as you wait for dialogue exchanges to go on and on. And on they must go, because April's journey can't continue until the exchanges are completed. As you may know, this game is not American or UK, it was translated from another language in a country where presumably people have much more time on their hands. Just about every scene could have been sped up - as could April's walking speed (even running is too slow). I applaud the designers' efforts to make a complex story, but they clearly needed someone to reign in their excess dialogue and plodding pace.

Fantastic Game

This is a fantasic game. Almost everything about it is fantastic. This is my newest favorite game. There is only two problems with it. 1. Swearing. They swear so much! Especially Burns Flipper. 2. Really slow install. It takes forever! I was so excited about the game, I didn't have time to wait so long! Other than those two things, everything is perfect. Perfect! Please buy this game because I heard that if it sells well in the states, they will make a sequel! Buy it, it's a must-have.

Great Game, Slow Start

This game, so far, is really very good. The graphics are impressive and the story line is tight. This game does have a very slow start though, and you have to listen to a lot of people talk about a bunch of stuff that doesn't seem to be important right away. Stick through this, and you will love this game.

An engrossing adventure!

I enjoyed this game because it had an interesting storyline, well developed characters, beautiful animation and challenging puzzels to solve! One of the nicest features of the game is that the heroine cannot be killed! It is so frustrating to spend hours playing a game, only to have the main character die, necessitating replaying the game! There is some "bad" language in the game, which is why it is rated for mature audiences. There is very little violence. The main character can be sacastic and mouthy occasionally, which made me want to give her a smack, but except for that, the game was a ton of fun! This is a pretty heavy duty game, coming with 4 CD's, and it took over 45 minutes to load it onto my Dell Dimensions 4100! Be sure to read the computer requirements before you buy it to ensure your computer can push this software.

One of my favorite games of all-time.

Absolutely beautiful and surreal. Like so many woven dreams and breathtaking vistas and grand accomplishments... this game is everything I hoped it would be from the time I first spotted the box to the final credits. There is also no false advertisement in the title, as this is an extremely long journey. After dozens and dozens of diverse characters and locations and victories, you realize you have three discs of game left to go through. I played this game for months, though not always at the computer. I would get stuck on a particularly devious puzzle or plot point and wouldn't play for a while, but found myself brainstorming possible solutions all the time. There are many hours of dialogue and monologue (April tends to talk to herself about whatever is on her mind, which are often the same questions you find yourself asking) and most of it has some comic relief, usually from April's understandable cynacism (she does see and hear some very strange things).
If you want an awesome adventure game that will stretch the limits of your imagination and that will take for-freakin'-ever to finish, I highly recommend this game, although you'd probably love it regardless.

A Wonderfully Fun Game!

I received this game for Christmas and have been having a wonderful time with it. The storyline is engrossing, the characters are believable in their language and behavior. The game requires you to pay attention to the clues the characters give you as you go along, but if you miss something, you can refresh your memory by looking at the main character's "diary." There are 4 CD's with this game, so it will take you a while to play. I have a strong feeling I will be disappointed when this game is over!

The Longest Journey- Beautiful but Long

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 2 / 2

This game is one of the best i've played, no doubt. The graphics are like real footage of humans, the dialogue is beautifuly acted, the false worlds seem like parallel worlds to ours, and the charachters are so real and understandable, from the sleazeball Zack to April herself who is always showing insight to important things. The Longest Journey, however, is made even longer by the length of the travel scenes (getting from the border house to the fringe cafe takes like 5 minutes) and by the complexity of the puzzles. That makes little difference but i found myself frusturated with the time it took just to advance a little.

Awesome Graphics

The storyline and graphics for this game are outstanding. Unfortunately, great games are not built entirely around just graphics and storyline. I found the game fun and entertaining but could only give it 3 stars due to the difficulty and lack of logic needed to solve some of the puzzles. The game seems to move a bit too slow and the characters tend to be very long-winded. Sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes just to listen to one monologue. Very fun at first but tedious after a while. Trying too hard to make a novel out of a game

Best adventure game ever !

This game is the greatest adventure game ever. It even beats Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island games. It is funny, exciting and really manages to make you care about the characters. Even if you have never played an adventure you should really give this one a try - it might open a complete new genre for you.
