Predictable and bland

Very much like Command and Conquer. Missions (But not many), build units, attack, destroy everything, win, next mission, and so on. Its all been done before. You are limited to small hordes of units (<100) that are supposed to represent armies. You basically take your gang and go hunt down your enemies. Its not Epic like it should be, not even close. I see this as a "cashing in" game on all the LOTR hype. They could have made it much longer (Its beatable in a few hours on easy mode) and much more involved. It really lacks depth and richness.

Nonetheless the graphics are good and the story is interesting.

Overall its a bit dissapointing, but if you are a LOTR fan, go for it, you'll be entertained at least for a few hours.

war of the ring is a fun game. But i just got the battle for middle earth, and it is 10000000000000000000x's better than war of the ring. The graphics don't even compare bfme is much better then wotr. The levels r more fun and better. the ai can be really smart if difficulty is set to hard. So don;t get this game, get battle for middle earth you will enjoy it much much more. I used to play war of the ring non-stop before i got battle for middle earth, but now i don't even know where bfme is and i don't care. All i care about is battle for middle earth. Buy battle for middle earth and not war of the ring. Trust me. :)

good game

I dont see what everyone has against this game (except for the graphics, which raise the question: was Picasso on the design team?) as long as you ignore the fact that this is a LOTR game. It is fun to just get a bunch of trolls and a hero and smash everyone. As for BFME being better, I have to say this game was strong in certain areas and BFME was strong in certain areas, but if you were to choose between the two, pick BFME

Not worth the price!

this game is not worth the pirce! the campagin is comepletly random battles jumping from third age 1000s to thirda ge 3000s, the population limit is tiny! the troll stonehurlers are as a strong as a gondor swordsman! the riders of rohan have flails! no mumakil? dwraves?dwarves aren't fighinting for the free peoples!

Multiplayer?

The box said "Multiplayer" so I assumed it was playable on a LAN as many games are now days....WRONG! You can only have two players and both must play on the same computer, one on the keyboard/mouse and the other on a game pad. I found the term "multiplayer" misleading.

The game itself is a lot of fun, however you're limited on the characters you can play. You can't play characters such as Pippen, Merry and Faramir until you've completed the entire game. After that the extra characters will be unlocked and you can play any of the characters in any of the adventures.

You will get hooked.

Some people say this game is stupid, or too easy but I very much enjoyed it!!! The gameplay was excellent and I found it to be fairly challenging. It's a very fun game! I love how every character has their own special abilities! This is a must buy for the fans of Warcraft!!!

i can't get my mind off it!!!

I don't know much about the game cause i got the demo but even just the demo i can tell this is a great game. if your not sure if you want to buy it cause you never played it before than trust me you should buy this game. if you don't believe me get the demo from www.lordoftherings.com and try it out yourself.
i like the role playing but i when the game suddenly stops and a quick conversation go's on it gets annoying. but all and all i give this game a 5 star for awsome grafics and it can be approved by both kid and adult.

This game is pretty good. The bad thing it only has two tribes. I've played the game and it has alot of action and vilence so if your a war kind of person i would get it.

Overall it's a must get game

Gandalf can't do anything to make this game better

Alright, so the Lord of the Rings series is a big francise. We got movies, video games, costumes, websites going on and Battle for Middle earth which looks awesome. Now War of the Rings, I hate the grapics first and foremost. I mean they were absolutely terrible! Then, no original voiceovers from the movie! Sierra was to busy writin' a "great" review for the release. But whats the point if we don't have good voiceovers. I must admit, that some of the units for all of them were neat like the trolls and Rohan horsemen, and I loved the blood and powers you could choose. But, I hated the opening movie and the storyline. It was hardly even like the movie! In short terms, I hated War of the Ring for the PC!

I started reading the books in 1972 and never stopped...

Well,in this age of games like Morrow Wind,Final Fantasy XI,Dungeon Siege etc,and given the history (and hype)surrounding Hollywoods destruction of a wonderful piece of work,(Tolkiens writing)you would think that this game would be incredible. You would be wrong. This game is played exactly like a certain game by Microsoft that comes standard with Windows XP Home. The main difference being that this game seems like it was done by Disney, both the graphics and the dialog, and that isnt a compliment. In the first tutorial you are faced with a Cave Troll, and an Elf.They are your instructors.I will call the cave troll Donald, and the elf Goofy.Any resemblance to those characters in the Trilogy is lost on me.You are instructed to "gather resources" and build buildings,You are shown how to make workers to do that. You build a building and it produces "Swordsmen of Gondor",right click on the over-view map on the red dot that is the enemy and as long as you made a bunch of swordsmen, they go and kill the enemy.I also received Neverwinter Nights Gold last week.Comparing the two games is like comparing Pac Man and Dungeon Siege. They both have challenges inherent to play.Pac Man can be a challange(?)as can Dungeon Siege.I prefer Dungeon.Out of all of the games I mentioned,I would put my money in Neverwinter Gold,or wait a month(?)for Dungeon Siege II.Now,this game does have its merits I suppose,if you like Pac Man,but if you really want a game that does what this one claims to,and if you like Dungeon Siege, most importantly,if you know who said"never meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger",then installing this game will be a definite disappointment.Vivendi should heed the latter quote, and stay out of the affairs of thier betters...
