As far as shooter games go...

Duke Nukem, while nothing more than a mindless shoot'em-up, is perhaps the best of its kind. It has a very fast engine! It runs very smoothly even on my relatively old computer and using the full screen. The scenery is more realistic than the dungeons of Quake and Unreal. Instead, you're fighting in the city with grovery stores, subways, sewers, and the occassional nuclear facility.

The foul language, sexual induendo, and rude comments can be funny, but for those concerned about young minds, you can turn it off and keep it off with a password. The surround sound effects are engaging, especially if you have a good set of stereo speakers or headphones.

The game also has the capability of multi=player gaming with computer-controlled players, but they are very fast. It is supposed to be useful for testing user-created maps, but they can prevent a real challenge.

The Duke gets my endorsement, especially for the speed, sound, and real-world setting.

Not the same old "Doom"

Too many first person shooters are essentially a throwback to the earliest days of computer games: a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

But Duke inhabits if not the real world, at least something recognizable as a world. There are light switches and elevators and (with the add-on disk) burger drive-throughs and, yes, lots of half-naked women. And it's all interactive.

Sure, some of it's goofy (interactive toilets are probably fairly pointless), but it makes for a great game: Wandering into the darkened men's room, you can see in the mirror that an alien's waiting to ambush you by the sink. Toss in a pipe bomb and step back and trigger it.

One of the all-time great games, and I can't wait for the sequel, "Duke Nukem Forever."

This is only the BEST VIDEO GAME EVER MADE! The graphics are incredible (at least good--I only wish that everything was a little more 3D-like), the phrases are hilarious, and the action and violence... Oooh... Now THAT is ONE GOOD GAME! I only wish that my computer wouldn't freeze every time I die or enter some of the cheat codes... Oh well, you know Macs... Take my advice... GET THIS GAME!

Duke Nukem 3D is a GREAT game for enthusiasts of DOOM. You will get lost (and have fun) in its cities for hours. Also, you can set it to REDBLUE mode, obtain some cheap REDBLUE glasses and see the whole thing in true 3D. It's amazing.

I've owned this game for years, and it is still the one I turn to after a lousy day at work when I just want to blow stuff up. Never crashes, always entertaining, and *lots* of user-made levels out there--some of which are better than the commericial ones. It rocks.

I think Duke Rocks! It is one of the coolest shoot em up game in the world. Sure it's violent but it is el hilario too. I found it cool that you can play with someone over the net. I hook up a game with my uncle every now and then. IT ROCKS! rating 99900000000

ok i've had this game for about a year now and it is still not boring at all. It has been my favorite game that long too. This game is for the people who like killing things a lot. The levels are so well made that you want to play them over and over. So if you like quake 3, and redneck rampage well its like those but a lot better. If i could give it more stars then i would. And no i have nothing bad to say about this game at all. So buy it right now!

This Game Came Out A Good Time Ago, And Its Still Fun. Its Not Like Doom Or Dark Forces(which suck...)You Can Fly With A Jet Pack, Swim Underwater, And Many Other Fun Odds And Ends.It Can Be A little Dirty, But So What...Most Peoples Little 5 Year Old Kids See That Stuff All The Time On TV. All In All= Its More Fun Than Most Games Out There.

There is not a finer game for blowing stuff up

The best thing to do with this game is to set it up, go for the third level of difficulty, activate the God mode and the all weapons mode and then go blow some crap up. Nothing's more fun than shooting an alien at close range with a missile launcher. This game does have a lot of puzzles and other fun stuff. The engine could have used some more tweaking in terms of weapons; you'll find yourself using the first four MUCH more often than you will the others. But overall, a great game and challenging even if you're cheating.
