What did it take 2 years for?

What a rip-off. I've been a huge fan of Hoyle Card Games 2005 and was really looking forward to a new version. What they decided to package was the exact same game but with Black Jack and 2 new, never before heard of games.

The character players are the exact same: they look the same, sound the same, say the exact same things. No NEW characters. No NEW Music. Even the stuff you buy with Hoyle bucks are the EXACT SAME THINGS! ARRRRGGHHHHH. Okay there is one difference. Its Buggier than the first. The songs won't play in their entirty on my system. The voice files seem of a lesser quality and the lip sync-ing is waaay off.

Sigh. Basically they're out to take your money by reselling you the same product. They should've included the new games in a patch.

If you've never played the Hoyle card games before, buy it.....used, 2005 edition. If you have 2005, there's no reason to upgrade.

okay, im done venting

a ripoff . . . do not buy!

Sure, the graphics are good, and there are a lot of games. But the software is BUGGY, with a "rewards system" that malfunctions, sound glitches, etc. And when you write for tech support, all they will tell you is to send the COMPLETE package back for a refund.

Can't upload this game on my computer (Win XP sp2, computer less than 12 months old) and tech support is only listed for 2005 version of game - unsure what to do at this point - can't find a phone number, can't get any help. Would have given zero stars if there was a way to do so.

Don't Buy It

I plunked down $19.99 plus MD tax at Best Buy for this product. It works great if you never, ever, play Craps. If you play craps, you can grow a beard while waiting for it to respond. I play on a laptop and it is simply snail speed, with at least 30-60 seconds between plays. According to other reviews on the web, the same happens on desktops. I don't know, but I do know that Encore, the manufacturer, on the website support basically says, if it is not working, too bad for you. Don't believe me, look it up.

I was very displeased with this product. When installed I was prompted to insert "Product Key #" which was not supplied with the CD. I contacted the distributor and was referred to someone else who in turn referred me back to the distributor. When contacting Amazon they promptly instructed me to return the product for a replacement. This I did and when the replacement arrived I had the same problem. Again I contacted to the distributor and was informed I would have an answer within 24 hours. After 3 days, with no response from the distributor, I contacted Amazon requesting authorization for return which I did. 7 Days later I received a response from the distributor stating I should unstall trial program and reinstall and not have to have a product key #. Since the CD had already be returned I could not try this.

Question?

Does this newer version include Spite & Malice and Rummy 500? I lost my 2005 disc and now have a new computer. Hoyle card games have been my favorite for years. Since I need to buy it again I'd like to know if i should get the 2007 or try to find the 2005 version. Could someone who is leaving a review for 2007 please let me know if these two games are included? Much Thanks!

Hoyle Cards 2007 Fun but buggy

The Hoyle Card Games 2007 is a fun way to play cards. The characters that play cards with you are fun, annoying, and even fun to beat.

The facemaker package, which comes with the game is supposed to allow you to design your own character but it doesn't work at all. So you are basically stuck with one character for everyone that might want to play. We even ran a repair operation on the game and it still does not work properly. I would advise you to purchase the 2008 version or contact Hoyle Games and inquire about this glitch before making a purchase. The glitch does not seem to exist in the Hoyle Casino 2007.

Disappointing New Games

The same great games are here from the 2005 version, as well as a few new games. However, two of the new games are a disappointment. One is a Mille Bornes ripoff with a space theme which should have been more fun than it is, and the other is a simple card matching/adding game most suitable for children. In addition, the spontaneous character voices don't work well with the new games, and the mouths are out of sync with the words when they (and you) are forced to speak. Also, the game settings/options for the new games cannot be changed. The old games are great fun, thus the 4 stars. The disappointing new games cost 1 star, or it would have been 5.

The computer "cheats"!

I've played Freecell for years and have found it to be stimulating. I got this because I wanted to play Canasta again without needing to rely on human partners. I've played two-person Canasta which I got from the Internet. It is satisfying. This Hoyle 2007 has four-person Canasta. My only dissatisfaction is that I suspect that the computer "cheats." It knows everything in all players hands, and it has to play three of the hands including one's partner. I've noticed that the player to my left can usually always pick up the discard pile. Even if I discard a wide range of cards, it can always pick them up. My partner rarely picks up the pile. The player to my right will invariably discard a card that I can't pick up. Time and again, even when I have 4 to 6 pairs of a given card unnaturally somehow the player to my right is able to avoid dropping a card that I can pick up.
After a frozen discard pile accumulation the opponents ALWAYS get the pile! I can't believe that just by chance alone even if one were a poor players that the odds could be so stacked against a player! This makes the game frustrating and unsatisfying. I suspect that this is a defect in the product. It needs to have one computer mind that has overview of procedures, and secondary computer minds that can function for the players as an individual does without certain knowledge of the other players cards.
Hearts has a similar frustrating defect. Whereas Hearts from another source is challenging but not impossible.
The Solitaire games are good, especially Pyramid.
