Disappointing Expansion

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 7 / 15
Date: August 12, 2002
Author: Amazon User

First of all, I want to say that the 2 star rating is not for the original Zoo Tycoon. That's a 5 star game hands down (though as others have mentioned, I like Roller Coaster Tycoon better). The 2 stars is for my disappointment in Dinosaur Digs. This expansion to Zoo Tycoon is not for everyone.

My first problem with this expansion is a personal preference: rather than a dinosaur expansion to Zoo Tycoon, I would have rather seen something akin to what Livin' Large was to The Sims - more animals! And I don't mean dinosaurs. There are inumberable animals that I would have added to Zoo Tycoon to make it more fun for me - animals that exist - and there is so much more they could have done with it.

That leads into my second problem. They didn't add enough valuable gameplay. They threw in a few more dino scenarios. They threw in, yes, a slew of dinosaurs and likewise scenary and exhibit objects. And they added the expensive scientist, and, in my opinion, the rather useless "dinosaur recovery team". Sure they added a few buttons to hide different things. But what about more water animals - and a tank that lets you put up glass/plastic walls underneath so that guests can view them underwater as many zoos do? What about, in general, adding things that make Zoo Tycoon more like a real zoo?

Dinosaurs are too expensive. The fencing, scientists, above-mentioned dinosaur recovery team, and the dinosaurs themselves cost insane amounts of money. Granted, if we really did have dinosaurs to put on display I imagine that would be "realistic", but it's hard enough to keep the money rolling in with normal animals.

On the whole, I was disappointed with the expansion. Some, who liked the idea of dinosaurs in a zoo, may disagree, and I suppose that would be justified, but I would have rather seen 50 new animals and new useful gameplay features (I noticed you still can't turn off the silly shelters to see underneath for trampled terrain - unless I missed something) than dinosaurs. I hope Microsoft decides to make another, more realistic expansion. I love Zoo Tycoon and I'm sure I'd buy it.

Dino Digs is great! It's basically the same thing as zoo tycoon except it has a jurrassic twist! You can get a Spinosaurus, a T-Rex,a Raptor, and other dinosaurs including ice age beasts like a sabre toothed cat and wooly rhino! It's easy to opperate and when you pop it in to your computer, you don't have to install or anything it just plays!(that at least worked for me.) Have fun gamers!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever wanted your own zoo? If so, this is the game for you! Get Elephants, Lions, Chimpanzes, and even Peingiuns! Real little people come through your zoo. Make sure you don't let the lions out!

This game is awful. the dinosaurs are VERY picky. they like a lot of plants, but then they run over them and get mad about the rubble. It is very hard to keep them happy. also, i hired a crew that catches dinos if they escape. when my spinosaurus got out and started eating people, they just stood there! all my guests were screaming and running from my zoo. Very frustrating, and a money waster!!!

A Fine and creative addition to an already exciting game !

Dinosaur Digs is a fine addition to this already exciting game. If you already own Zoo Tycoon then you already know how exciting the can be if you really get creative. Dinosaur Digs allows you to be more creative than ever with many new dinosaur additions including the ferocious T-Rex! I will keep this short and sweet. If you are interested in my review, I suggest you check out my review on the original Zoo Tycoon. I recommend this expansion pack to anyone who enjoys Zoo Tycoo as much as I do. Give it a shot I guarantee that it will not disappoint.

Good computer game but not alone.

Dinosaur Digs is a great computer game but not by itself. In order to enjoy the game fully you need Zoo Tycoon & Marine Mania. With the three games together you will get the full feel of a zoo, how to run it, keep the guests and animals happy etc. Even if you have Dinosaur Digs & Zoo Tycoon it will not be complete without Marine Mania. Make sure to get Marine Mania as it includes Dinosaur Digs as an added bonus.

With all three of these games you and your children will enjoy hours of fun building and maintaining your own zoo. Just don't forget, unhappy guests mean no money for your zoo which means unhappy animals and no funding from outside sources for new exhibits, etc.

Don't Buy This Game!!!!!

This is great game and a very fun addition to Zoo Tycoon, but you can get it with Marine Mania for the same price as it alone.

The game itself adds plenty of new animals with the addition of dinosaurs. You now have a scientist and a dinosaur collection team. Oh Yeah, if the T-Rex gets out, he will eat your guests!

I liked Zoo Tycoon but the dinosaur Expansion pak constantly crashes. You work an hour on it and get a black screen and lose all your work. The dinasaurs are constantly breaking out and causing it to be a hard game to keep moving. I mean they ate my scientist, then they ate a maintenance man. I like the original game and believe they could add more animals to it and forget the past.
