Shoot em in the Head! Final Review!!

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 8

Well I have finished the game and was pleasently suprised. Overall should be 4 stars but I can't seem to edit this part.
Gameplay:
a) No technical issues (I played it on a top of the line laptop)
b) The zombies will try to either bite or punch you (knocking you down) but I wish they would try to grab you and slow you down.
c) Good assortment of weapons, but ammo is hard to get initially but easy at the end of the game (should be the other way around).
d) My big complaint is the variety of things to fight. Of course you have walking, crawling and spitting zombies but thats about it. I would love to have run into a biker gang or evil paramilitary group. Something to add some flavor.
e) More powerful guns will put zombies (most) down w/ one headshot. {Although the screamers require enough rounds to supply a platoon.}
f) Some very stressful/scary moments (the cornfield had a great atmosphere) just as it should be.

Graphics: Not bad for a $20 game.

Sound: Actually very good

Difficulty: Well the zombies do seem to try and hunt you down.
If you are an experienced gamer (especially if you play 3d shooters) start w/ the game on Hard for challenge, regular mode is simply too easy.

well this is just a review based upon what i have seen through the demo.
for a 20 dollar game its impressive and looking at the screen shots as well as watching people play the demo it looks and sounds great.
i mean if you look at the product specs and the money you are shelling out for it its way worth it.
i am a hard core gamer and since i am on va disability i have more time on my hands so i play alot of games.
there is like 20 levels to the game and i think if i remember right that there is like 4 different multiplayer modes to play as well.
i am a big fan of the night of the living dead series and i am a big time player of resident evil games so this one is right up my alley.
waiting on the game patiently for it to arrive then t will be zombie mayhem.
i have to say one more thing the zombies in this game look alot better than whats in resident evil games.
also think this game will be a sleeper then gem once more people find the game and play it but what i seen no complaints on my end just waiting to hunt those zombies.

First of all, I gave this game 5 stars across the board. Evidently Amazon didn't believe me when I clicked on 5 stars. Anyway, I think it was $20 well spent. If you like the "Dead" movies and are into zombies, your gonna love this game. If your planning on spending the $20 and expecting to get into the "high rent" district, ain't gonna happen. But, the graphics are cool, the music draws you in and the overall ambiance of the game is all there. Yeah, you have to shoot a few of them several times in the head but remember, you have to shoot them in the brain, not just in the head. So, I have no complaints. It's fun and it's a great game, not a $500 watch. So get the game and turn out the lights, draw down the shades and pull up your favorite chair in front of the screen 'cause your in for a treat.

Why is this game only 20 bucks?!!!

I played the demo and immediately bought the game. The ambience created by the music, sounds, and graphics make you want to keep the lights on while playing! Contrary to what the other reviews say the zombies can be killed with a "well aimed" head shot but it's kind of hard to aim when them bastards are swarming you! Body damage on the zombies is realistic. Don't turn your back on a zombie just because you blew off it's leg, it can and does crawl after you! Subtle touches of humor and irony add to the game. The controls are Unreal Tournament smooth. The levels are painstakingly designed and don't feel redundant. As you progress through the game you go from panicky newbie to stone cold zombie slayer, but you'll still keep the lights on!!! This is the game to get for the true zombie enthusiast. I can't believe this game is only 20 bucks!!!

A fun, gory shooter!

This is a "budget" title with a lot of entertainment value (if you are into zombies or horror games) for your money. If you like PC shooters in general, then you will enjoy "Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green" -- and it does not require the latest and greatest computer/video card to run well either. Certainly this game is much (much!) better than the horribly feeble movie "George A. Romero's Land of the Dead" this game was spawned from...

Read the other reviews. The game is Worth it!

There is an immediate assumption that if a game doesn't cost over 30 bucks it will suck. WRONG! And this is the type of game to prove this point.
Land Of The Dead is a GREAT game. The graphics are VERY good, the controls are just what you'd expect from a top FPS, and the gameplay is fun and entertaining and will make you jumpy a few times. It doesn't have such a high number of levels but will keep you shooting away for a decent period of time. I will include a few gameplay screenshots.
Bottom line, get it and enjoy. The game's story precedes the movie, so when you're done with the game, you may go ahead and watch the movie.

A Cheap Zombie Game-You get what you pay for

Maybe I've been spoiled by playing Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R, and other high quality games....but.
First off let me say that I have been anticipating the release of this game for quite a while. Being a zombie and Romero fan I thought this was a win-win situation, I was only partially right though.
I will say that the premise is intriguing. You must make your way through levels of the shambling dead to reach Fiddler's Green, the last bastion of safety of the non-undead. The problem I have is the execution of the game. The graphics themselves are not terrible, but very stiff and unrealistic. The maps are very limited and funnel from one area to another. The movement of your character as well as the undead are also stiff and stilted.
Part of the other problems are inconsistent weapon damage. I would shoot one zombie in the head point blank with the pistol and it would go down, head clean off. My next opponent would take 4 shots, to the noggin point blank, to go down.
I also had some bug problems, where the game crashed to the desktop. A patch has been released by Groove to hopefully fix the problem. This game feels like it was put out by a slightly unpolished company.
Here's how I see it....
Postives.... Great premise
Cheap price
Negatives... Outdated graphics
Poor ragdoll physics
Initial releas bugs
In closing... If your a zombie or Romero fan, this game is cheap so buy it. Don't expect cutting edge technology though. I only wished they could have done a better job with it. I would have been happy to spend an extra $20 on a great zombie game. At least I didn't spend $50-$40 on this.

I was so excited UNTIL I tried to play it

Being a long time fan of Romero's DEAD series and a player of games like RE 1-3, HOTD 1-2, Doom 1-3, Quake, FEAR, etc...
I was looking forward to this game and had it reserved for release day.

Ugghhh what a dissapointment.

The problem was not graphics, gameplay or anything else.
The problem was PLAYABILITY.

The game was so glitched it was unplayable.

I downloaded the patch 1.1 from Groove, but still the game was unplayable.

Problems like ...

ACTION/FIRE button randomly becoming inoperative and doing nothing unless you rebooted game.
(ie... fists or weapons would not work even when health was high and ammo was full).

In fact, all mouse functions other than movement would stop working, the game would stop reading mouse clicks -or- even the "E" key for action.
No option but to exit game and start over.

Stiff (very stiff) character movement that made navigating very unpleasant.

In summary, it was simply too glitchy and aggravating to enjoy.

I uninstalled and tossed it in the trash.

I wish the game had WORKED properly and smoothly.... if so, the look and feel was right on key....... it was simply the execution that made it too annoying to try and play.

Since I have a P4-2.1GZ system with 512mb RAM, Nvidia 256 graphics card, etc..etc..etc.. and handle MUCH MORE COMPLEX games and software, my PC hardware is not the problem here.

I should have suspected problems when I learned the game was not ACT Light Gun compatible........... lets face it.... ALL FIRST PERSON SHOOTER games should be light gun compatible !

CREEEPY!!!!!

If you like zombie movies or zombie games, you'll like this game. It's obvious it doesn't match the stellar graphics of most current fps's now, it matches them in gameplay. And the gameplay fits the atmosphere perfectly. The environments are believable with mundane objects of everyday life. That's important because the mood is set with the tense music and frightening creatures. The developers did a great job of creeping the crap of me by the zombies' sounds and attacks. They're unpredictable. At one moment, they're standing or walking slowly then they come at you at lightning speed. I've never played a game in which the monsters have scared me so much. People talk about being scared by the monsters and zombies in Doom 3. I always knew Doom 3 was just a game when I played it. In this game, the tension is real and I was always on edge to keep the zombies away from me. A shame the developers couldn't have spend a little more time cleaning up the graphics and eliminating some of the few bugs in the game. But the game is definately worth the money. Try it.

Good Game for the price

Ill start off by saying that if this game were to cost more than $20 I would have given it less stars but because it is only $20 it is a fair deal. LOTD is a fun game but dont expect any top of the line effects or art as in shooters like FEAR or HALF LIFE 2 because if you do you may be disappointed. The graphics in this game are not bad but not really impressive. The sounds are great and the music definitely sets and fits the horror tone to the game. Gameplay is just like other 1st person shooters but this game has some glitches and feels a little more sluggish than other 1st person shooters like FEAR or HALF LIFE 2. The story is not a bad one but not an excelent one just average but enough to keep you interested. Overall this is a good game for $20 especially for horror fans and people who like shooters. Worth it.
