A Biased But Fair Review

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 7

Being a Monopoly fan myself did not help me in my quest for an unbiased review of this king of games! (Notice the bias already?).

And it is one of those things, I suppose: you either like Monopoly, or you don't. I do, and I think the PC version of this old timer has been a complete success!

First, one of the problems that any monopoly player normally has is that not many people are always willing to play with him/her at the drop of a hat. Well, this Monopoly gives you the choice of playing against AI players, or against other human peers around the world... almost at anytime!

Remember, there must be someone connected to the net, at any one time, playing monopoly somewhere in the world!

Second, the game allows you to play its normal rules, and now you can vary them to suit your wants and needs. That is a big plus, as previous primitive versions would force you to play only one set of rules. I believe this Monopoly deserves a second star for that only feature.

Third, playing monopoly on your PC becomes, with this Monopoly Version, a truly multimedia interactive experience. Now you can see the properties before you buy them. Everytime you land in a property, you see a video clip of the property you land on. You can deal and wheel with other players, you can outbid them in auctions (and they can be nasty to you too!), and you can crush them by financially beating them to submission! (and they don't throw the board on your face if you do!).

True, if you are a seasoned Monopoly fan, you would know what properties to buy by their respective colours. But having the video clip (this is an option you can switch off) is refreshing, and adds an extra dimension to the traditional game. Kids love it too. :-)

The playability of this Monopoly version is outstanding. It almost plays by itself. It frees you from having to be the bank or appointing someone in that position. It just lets you play, whilst your computer takes care of the Bank (and it does not steal from you or cheat... to the best of my knowledge!). :-)

Even if you're not a monopoly fan (yet), you should give it a try. Play it, and you may be converted... but be very careful: It can be extremely addictive. Have fun!

Best of the Hasbro Monopoly games for the PC

Hasbro has come out with several versions
of Monopoly for the PC. This version created
by Westwood Studios is the best. It is a true
Windows applications (instead of DOS/Active-X)
with Menu bar, buttons, and dialog boxes. It
works great on a "non-state of the art" PC.
This version holds closely to the original
monopoly game while including multimedia graphics
and sound. While you have to be a little
technically saivy, I have played over the
Internet with other people many times.

An Old Favorite Updated In a Huge Way!!!

This IS a five star game! They should rename it :"Monopoly: the WOW Version". I haven't played a boardgame this fun in ages! Play with your family, the computer characters, or heck, play online with your neighbors across the street! Of course, you can always log onto Monopoly's very own website, where others are waiting for you to host or join their games!! Could this possibly have more endless fun? I haven't even talked about the gameboard yet! You can play "classic" style, pick a favorite city, or *make your own using a digital camera*! That's right..if you want the dog's bed to be your Boardwalk it can. Or, how bout' using your real life neighborhood? You can go take pics. of YOUR town or neighborhood and use them! You'll have to excuse my excessive use of exclamation points, but I simply can't stop raving about how original, fun, and overwhelming technology has mde this favorite pastime. My favorite features would have to be:
1. You can customize the rules
-and-
2. you can have your computer opponents be either "new- buyers", "entrepreneurs" or "tycoons", allowing you to set the difficulty levels of your imaginary players.
Spend the money on this one and you'll never regret it for a minute. Oh? did I mention the whole board is 3-dimensional too?!!!

Wheeling and Dealing Has Never Been So Much Fun

It isn't often that Nephew Computer Game is better than its predecessor, Uncle Board Game. However, the classic game Monopoly is one such case.

Everything about this game is brought to life via the computer version. Every title deed you land on has its own little movie scene, which is a treat to watch in and of itself. Early spaces like Purple Baltic Avenue show nothing but a dump wasteland, dirty fog rising up from its mists. Later spaces like the Blue Boardwalk are so elegantantly designed you still get the feeling of being king (or queen) of the game when you are lucky enough to buy it.

And don't think that the computer players are a joke. They are smarter than you think, and those who are new to the game can easily find themselves being outsmarted by their computer opponent(s).

Other delights abound within this game. The set pieces, such as the Race Car and the Hat and the Cannon having character traits all their own. Each one is unique as it travels around the game board.

A game such as Monopoly for the computer is one of those games that has to be played to fully get the enjoyment out of it. There are many funny videos and sequences in the game, and the background music is great to listen to while playing as well. Give this game a whirl; you're not going to find many games at this cheap of a price that give you more than what you're paying for.

What a great game for just 10 bucks!

This game is awesome! If you're Monopoly fan or not; it is awesome. Considering its price! The graphics are cool and the game rocks. I saw reviews saying that computer always beats them, not true, if you use your brains a little or 'play the monopoly'(which is the main point of the game) you can be a success between all of the other players in no time! Got ten bucks to spend, invest in this CD-ROM itll even teach you a little about money and much much more! Hay! If you know any other good games for 10-15 bucks please e-mail me! Thanks a lot!

IN MONOPOLY YOU CAN LEARN WHAT THE REAL WORLD IS LIKE. I ESPECIALLY ENJOY THE SOUND EFFECTS AND THE ANIMATED CHARACTERS.

I bought the updated version of Monopoly about a month ago and I've been impressed with the new features that the sofeware comes with. Not only can you choose different cities, but you can add your own photos, rename the different properties, and add or subtract how much you get each time you pass go. I highly recommend this game. It is worth the money that you will spend to get it.

Better than the first one!

This is way better than the first one! 3-D and colorful. Mr. Monopoly's voice makes the game funner.

Making your own board is easy and fun. Add pictures to your board.

Use the 10 included city boards that make Monopoly better.

Change the rules of the game like the number of houses, how much turns in jail, and what you get for passing GO and more!

This is one of the best games I've ever bought!

IF YOU THOUGHT THE FIRST MONOPOLY WAS GOOD, WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE THIS! I WAS AMAZED BY THE GRAPHICS AND ANIMATION THAT WAS PUT INTO THIS GAME. NOT ONLY CAN YOU PLAY THE CLASSIC GAME, BUT THE 10 CITY VERSIONS ARE ALSO INCLUDED. BELIEVE ME, IT IS WORTH THE MONEY YOU PAY FOR IT. CREATING YOUR OWN PROPERTIES IS ALSO ONE OF THE MANY GREAT FEATURES THIS GAME ALSO HAS.
