Nothing Like The Original

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 9

Long time fans of the Blitz series all the way from the very first Playstation release of the game will be very disappointed with this Xbox 360 version. It's NOTHING like the original. The main fun factors of the orginal were your team getting on fire, a flaming football, being able to jump and beat down other players after a play, the hilarious commentary by announcers and players, etc. Blitz: The League has none of this. No flaming teams, no flaming football, you can't beat on other players after the plays anymore, it's all gone wrong and it just wasn't fun to play.
The graphics are good, of course, but I'd rather have crappy graphics if I could have some decently fun gameplay. Every once and a while a player will say or do something funny but there is almost literally no commentary at all.
The controls are sloppy and a little difficult to get used to. Half the time when the opposing team is returning a ball, they plow through your entire team whereas when returning against the computer, you can barely stiff-arm a single guy off you.
Basically, as a fan of the very first couple of Blitz games, this one was a huge disappointment to me. Worth renting maybe, certainly not worth buying unless it's used for 15 bucks.

A decent replacement till they fix madden!

Well normally I do not like unrealistic sports games like blitz, but I was forced to buy it because I needed a football game on my "next gen" (which I guess means no games) system. Madden 07 was awful and such a letdown so I figured blitz couldnt possibly be worse. At first I was like "wtf" but then I got used to it and it became alot of fun. The controls take a couple practice games to get used to but once you catch on it is very simple. I wish there was more depth though, you can beat the game in a few days. I wish you could keep playing with your team after you beat the division 1 championship but you can't. If you need your football fix and madden isnt doing it rent blitz its fun if you give it a chance.

decent game, either as a rental or for $15 or less

This game is somewhat entertaining, and can be a great deal of fun, however, I wouldn't call this game one of the better titles in the xbox 360 lineup.

Pros: The gameplay is different from all the other football games out there, and can be a refreshing change from all of the other standard titles. The juicing, fighting and dirty hits make it a fun change from the Maddens and 2k games of the world.

Cons: The graphics are just ok, the gameplay is a little stilted at time. Also, the cheerleader cuts and bones breaking videos don't really seem to be necessary. It would be nice if you could turn those off.

Overall i wouldn't buy this game unless you can find it for 10-15$, and even then a rental might be a better solution.

This game is a fun game to get away from the madden series.
If you want to just sit back and have some bone crushing fun, then this is it.
Pretty easy and straightforward game and is plenty of fun, so it make a great party game. It will take most people new to it a bit to get used to the action being much much faster than other football games like madden and EA.

Don't get your hopes up for anything different it's the exact same game graphics and music. they just converted it to work for the 360.
It's fun , but it's the same damn game.

They couldn't get the NFL logo or players on this one but it still brings most of the fun and even adds to the franchise. The campaign mode sorta plays like a movie, there's an actual story line behind and certain things happen at key moments to affect the storyline and gameplay. You can choose how you put your team together, focus on running or passing, offense or defense. There's also always the option of juicing your players which can have positive and negative affects. A couple more of the new features include clash mode and injuries. Clash mode allows you to blaze through a defense with some amazing moves or smash the opposing offense with a dirty hit, taking down the players stamina and increasing the likelyhood of a fumble or injury to that player. There are many types of injuries that can happen on the field and you can choose to treat the player and have him make a full recovery or juice him and get him back in the game quicker, leaving greater potential for repeated injury.

All in all, I bought this game because it was cheap and I wanted something to take up some time but it brought back my love for arcade style sports games. True, there's no fire mode but that's quickly forgotten with all that has been done for the game. They brought the game on par with madden but actually kept the fun and that's why I love it.
