If you don't own this game your loosing out on the best game available, on the net! I've used computers for over 20 years. I started with a Bally then Texas Instruments, commodore 64 etc. I've played every game on the market and this game (Counter Strike) has given me literally hundreds of hours of fun much to the dismay of my wife! (Team Fortress Classic has also but this game is the next generation). CS is challenging, fun, and is the best game I've seen to force you and your team-mates to play as a team. Stay away from servers with Friendly Fire on, as you always get someone who thinks it's funny to kill their team-mates.

If you like TFC or Doom or Duke Nuke'm or you own a Nintendo and like James Bond this game is a must. Don't forget you have to buy Half-Life first!

When I first purchased Counter-Strike I was a little dismayed at the learning curve. Unlike in other first person shooters, when you are killed in Counter-Strike you stay dead until the round is over, forced to watch the living players battle it out. This can be very frustrating for a beginning player, as most of their time will be spent like this. I'm sure it varies greatly, but I found it was about a month before I was spending more time alive than dead. This may sound like a prohibitive time commitment, but what you have to understand is how addictive this game is. For several months after getting it Counter-Strike dominated my free time. Even when I was doing other things, my mind would wander to rescuing hostages and planting bombs. This game gets you involved in way I'd never experienced before. When you win you are ecstatic, when you loose you are angry. But whether angry or happy, when you are playing you are totally immersed. This is partially a function of the good graphics, but mostly of the dynamic surround sound. Every footstep could be an approaching enemy or an ally come to save you. Every gunshot helps you find your camouflaged targets (unless they have silencers).

The game does of course have a few drawbacks. Foremost among these are the length load times. You pick a server to log onto and then have to wait a minute or so before you can join the fray. Even in between levels expect to spend a good 45 seconds staring at the scoreboard while the next map loads. Another minor issue is the friendliness of some of the players. Due to the games intensity players can get very mad and the dialogue can quickly turn into vulgar flames. This said, most of the players, if not overly helpful to beginners, will at least give you time and space to learn the ropes.

Overall I would give this game four and a half stars. For the whole star rating system I rounded up because in my mind the game's shear addictiveness outweighs any of its flaws. But I will end with a warning. If you do not have lots of time to put into a computer game don't buy Counter-Strike. After you start, there is no quitting.

You have and old doll, its beat up, the arms are gone, one of the eyes have fallen out, and many holes make the doll look like a piece of junk, but no matter what you still seem to love it. The same goes with counter-strike. Graphics are old but still fine, internet problems spoil games sometimes, and anonomyous glitches occur with no explainable reason ruining your fun, but you still love it. This game is like that old doll but remarkably incredible. Now with a lower price than ever before, why wait to buy it? Gameplay is very realistic and never gets
old. Here are my ratings:

Graphics: 3 stars, this is because the game is rather old. Graphics seem outdated and beat by other games, but this doesn't bother me at all.

Gameplay: 5 stars, Gameplay is incredible. It's never gotten old for me and coming back to play the game again day after day never dulls down. The teams are also well balanced along with the weapons, and with a maximum of 32 players on a server can lead to total mayham and fun as you blow away you opponents.

Audio: 4 stars, the sound is very realistic and models each gun accurately. When you play in the game and hear a gun shot u can instantly tell which gun it is, which might run a chill down your spine if you have a little baby gun, leaving you a victim of their hunt.

Replay: 5 stars and 3 words, NEVER gets boring.

So for all you people out there thinking about buying it, DONT THINK AND BUY IT! (For you mom's, dont worry about the violence and gore, its just simple gameplay and fun for your child, and there isnt much gore at all in the first place.) =)

That's how long I've been playing this thing. Sure, I've "retired" for 6 months here and there, but I never failed to come back when a new beta came out (although I skiped 1.3 entirely).

The greats -
There's ALWAYS 30 - 40 full servers any time of the day (or night, or early in the frikken morning). No other online action game can boast that. I've played other FPS titles only to spend hours trying to find populated server with decent ping. On CS I have problem trying to find one with good ping that isn't full!

There are now literally thousands of maps out there for CS. Besides the dozen or so on regular rotation, you get hundreds of great unofficial maps being played on many servers out there. My favorite being the so called 'fun maps', such as fy_iceworld and awp_map.

The bad-
Cheating. I have yet to go to a server that doesn't have one. Don't listen to the rookies who doesn't know a wallhacker from an aimbot user. I've being through the many reiteration of the cheats, from the gl_zmax cheats of ole to the ogc that plagues the game now.

But you know what, even through the cheats and the whining and the complaining...me and hundreds of thousands (1.4 beta got over 2 million downloads from 4 sites) of other player out there keep on coming back for more.

People will write songs about this game (and they did!)

The Best Game In The World. Nothing comes close. I've been playing video and PC games since 1982 and I have never played anything this long without getting bored and moving on to another game. I got this game 2 years ago and it is still my most played game. Heck, I even rented my own Counter-Strike Server and made two websites devoted to the game. Dosen't that tell you something? Close to half a million players are online at any given time. The second most played online game don't even have 1/4 the user-base that counter-Strike has. Dosen't that tell you something also? You don't need a fast computer to run it. The learning curve is actually pretty long, but you'll have so much fun you don't care.

Get this game by all means!

First there was Half-life. A single player experience that was like no other, allowing for anyone with coding knowledge and the energy to change or mod it into something else. Counter-strike is well, THE mod, hands down, DoD and NS not coming even close. It's tough to find a gamer who doesn't know about CS or Half-life, so I don't have to go on and on raving about how good it is.

This is an online FPS where you play with real people in different scenarios and maps (levels) with different objectives. Sounds are awesome, but there is almost no music because it's well, a realistic game to a degree, and it was (thankfully) left out. (Except the map Italy where a juke box plays some obnoxious music, which can be stopped by shooting it)
Mouse and keyboard are the best for FPS controls, better than ANY console has EVER done with a controller, hands down, no questions.

Note now, that Counter-Strike is a STAND ALONE MODIFICATION for Half-life, if you want single player action, go play the original, this has a simple training course for new players, but is worthless as only playing against others will allow you to get really good.

The system doesn't have a high spec requirement, don't worry, but if you're only 56K chances are you will lag alot, regardless of the rest of the machine. 512 meg RAM, 128 GeForce Vid Card, etc. running on a 56K or lower will result in horrible lag for that person. Meanwhile, a 96 meg RAM, 32 vid card with little available memory will run much better. I live in the eastern US, and yes I have done this, and yes I am right.

Reasons not to like this game:

Overhyped. I noticed that people that got the game thinking it would be good or ok, or bad found it to be awesome, while the others who thought it would be godly don't like it. Some people just won't like this game, and that's to be expected.

Lag. Ouch. Sometimes this gets really bad. Especially on full 32 man servers. If this happens find a better server or hope it goes away.

Hacks. Probably THE reason people hate this game. You can have a guy that has 70 kills and 4 deaths, whom everyone will think is hacking, and then a guy with 2 kills 100 deaths, whom no one will suspect of hacking. Sometimes...it's the guy that 2 and 100 that's the hacker. Sometimes, not all the time. There is the wallhack (makes walls transparent or makes enemies stick out) Whitewalling that gets rid of colors and shadows except for enemies, aim botting, speed hacking, ghosting which is talking on the phone or thru a mic on the pc with someone in a game with you that tells you where enemies are. There are anti cheat tools, and admins are usually around and smart enough to kick or ban those kind of people.

Bad people. What people have to realize is this is the internet, so you have 13 year old loudmouths, racists, and people say what they want because you're playing through the game and the only thing that anyone can do is 1) Hunt you down or 2) get rid of them. 2 is the most popular choice.

AWP/Camping. AWP, the sniper rifle, capable of taking people down in one shot, sometimes even through walls. A whole team AWP'ing is a destructive force, but a little cheap. (but that's what AWP maps are for now)
Hiding in a corner, or staying in one spot constantly is camping, and it's not a big problem, but there nonetheless.

Counter-strike, an excellent multiplayer game, with no monthly fee. If you don't like playing on other servers you can take the money some games charge by the month and put it toward your own server, with Adminmod, which in essence makes you god of your server.

Try it, play it, love it, if you like the FPS genre this is the game to get.

Counter-Strike is a modification (mod) of the popular game Half-Life. The game is based around a terrorist and a counter-terrorist team which will play in various situations including bombing/defuse missions, hostage rescue, protect/kill the VIP and Escape. Counter-Strike is very fast paced and requires you to have fairly good reflexes in order to do well, since you will always be playing against people that are online.

What makes this different from most FPS games, is that once your killed, you must wait for the round to finish. A round on a regular server will usually last around 3 minutes. Having to wait for a round to complete can be boring, but it is always tense watching the last counter-terrorist having a shootout with the last terrorist. As each round is completed, your team will get money which you can use to buy new guns, armor, various grenades, and even night vision. The economics involved in getting the better items in the game are based on how well your team does as a whole, which adds a strategic element to the game.

In the graphics department, Counter-Strike is a fairly unimpressive game. They look quite dated since the game was built on the ancient Half-Life engine. What makes this game amazing is the amount of maps and characters that you can acquire on the internet and how many people are playing the game at any one time. You can download thousands of maps, character models, and weapon models that will make the game look much more realistic and fun as well. With about 10,000 servers running games, there is never a time when you can't find a game to play with up to 32 players.

You'll need a fairly good computer to have this game run smoothly. I recommend having at least a Nvidia GeForce 2, a DSL connection, and a good quality mouse (optical is best). There is one drawback to the retail version of this game; You can download the mod for free if you own the original Half-Life, which retails for about 10 dollars. Also, Counter-Strike Condition Zero, a completly new game with single player, slightly better graphics, new weapons, and new multiplayer maps is supposed to be coming out somtime this summer, so it might be smarter to just wait for that.

This review is for the ppl that havent gotten cs yet. this game might seem like a violent piece of trash but it really isnt.this game is about using stratedgy and teamwork to accomplish ur objectives. there is a HUGE selection of weapons and gear you can buy at each round. u will never get bored playing this game!! the one drawback to this game is the graphics r ok but not excellent like some pc shooter nowadays. but how can u blame it this game is 5 yrs old!!also even if u get this game u will need "steam" to play it online. but steam will make ur online experience MUCH better. and a little later in the yr (hope fully) condition zero will be released!!! better graphics more guns new maps AND EVEN SINGLE PLAYER!!so get this game I GUARANTEE that u will play this game everyday for about two yrs STRAIGHT ITS THAT ADDICTING p.s. HAVE AT LEASTA DSL CONNECTION BEFORE U PLAY ONLINE otherewise u will jus get lagged out and cause commotion.

OK. I do not own this game..YET i just orderd it. I have played this game many times at my friends house. This game beats Unreal Tournament any day. Though Unreal has all these special wepons and power ups and things, it cant compare to the more realistic CS.

One thing to all Unreal fans, this game has no respwan. Which means that after you die you have to wait for the round to be over to get back to playing. There are no health packs and things in this game. The only stuff you pick up is dead ppl's guns. This makes the game more realistic, unlike all other fps.Also you dont run at a 100000000000 mph. you run at realistic speeds. This game is more thab just run in and shoot everyone u c. If u do that, U will get your @$$ clapped. This gmae actually requires teamwork. Running in and blastin will only make you dead. try it a\in a pub sever, and u'll c. It works in other fps but not here.

Now to Just the game. The graphics are a bit grainy. But not too bad. The gameply mkaes up for the slight lack in graphics. There is endless play in this game. Weither u r playing bots, or real ppl. This game never gets old.EVER!there are three modes to play. depending on the two letters followed by a _ b4 the map name. The modes are bomb,hostage, and VIP. Bomb- Terrorists try to plant bomb(or kill all Counter Terrorists). CT(counter terrorists) try to defuse the4 bomb or just kill all enimies. But if tghe bomb has been planted already they must defuse it. Hostage- Simple really, Terrorists try to keep hostages, and CTs thry to rescue them. Or kill all on the other team. VIP- if u are CTs you must protect VIP, or kill all T's. T's try to kill the VIP, or kill all CT's.

When you start out in the game you only have a knife and a pistol, and hardly ay money to buy a new gun or ammo. To get more moeny, get kills, and win the round. In this game there is no auto aim, unless you use a hack. so it requires more skill. You cant hit anything when runnin and trying to shoot. So dont try. This game is much more complicated than any other fps. Besides guns and ammo, you can buy grenades and bullet proof vest, helmets, and other things.

One gun you must fear, or love in this game, the AWP. It is a HIGH powered sniper rifle. This gub kills in one hit no matter if it hits you in the toe, or head. When you kill an enimy by shooting him in the head, it is called a headshot. HS kill in one hit, unless they have a helmet. But the helmet will only stop some guns, it wont stand against an AWP. Besides the AWP there is a large varity of weapons. From a glock and duoble pistols to AK's and Mp5 to scouts and AWP's

If you like any FPS get this game. It will b diff. then your unreal tournament. But MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better. It will take some getting used to for you unreal fans.

This game is a lot of fun if you like sniping terrorists who arent comp charecters.Or if u love to be in intense combat with your teammates. So get some buddies of yours and join a server and have an intense battle where it just keeps getting better and better, ya=).My point- BUY THIS AND HAVE GRRRREAT FUN BABY!!!!=)
