Two disappointments

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 0

I am a die hard Pern fanatic, so I figured, bad reviews aside, I could still get along with this game. However, any die-hard Pern fanatic would tell you that this game has two MAJOR shortcomings, aside from the ridiculous load times and the lack of action. One, you don't actually fly the dragon. Instead of flying and actually directing your beast between, you pick a place off of a map. Secondly, you don't get to fight thread. I almost want to kick the producers of this game in the balls for that...how the hell do you make this game without having the character fight thread at some point...granted, I have not yet finished the game, but apparently the wing that D'Kor (the main character) is in is no longer assigned to thread. So no thread...which is odd, since that is the BASIS of the book series.
This game really was a disappointment though...I would advise that if you do have to buy it, just to see, be prepared to be bored, irritated, and plan to have some other quick activity to pass the time during the load screens. A novelette or crossword puzzle should do nicely.

One of the worst Dreamcast games I've played

Sub-standard graphics, slow, choppy animation, bad (hokey) voice-acting, boring game. Warning: this game is really bad. The only people who will like it are die-hard "Pern" fanatics who don't care if they're playing a horrible game as long as it's set in the Dragon Riders world. This is absolutely one of the worst Dreamcast games I've ever played.

Get Ready To Talk..........blah blah blah

Well this game wasn't that good. But the story lines was ok and the back grounds were nice. But it needs some action, if u love fighting then don't buy this game but if u like to talk... get it.

Good graphics, tired gameplay

well,I just purchased this game alittle while ago,and the reason for the low rating is because while this game offers great graphics and story, the gameplay is a bit repetitive and tired. However,if you are a fan of the Chronicles Of Pern series, this title is highly recommended.one thing I can't get past though is that the gaemplay s a bit slow, and the loading times are a bit long.Overall,I'd say it's a good rental at best.

This ride is great...but where is it?

Well everyone...so your thinking about buying Dragonraider??? Well the game features a marvellous storyline to the game with some added bonus of great that and some decent voice acting...definetly better than when everyone heard the voice acting in Resident Evil 1...lol The game moves around in a third person view (Shenmue as pointed out by another reviewer or Resident Evil if you never heard of Shenmue).

Graphics in the game are quite stunning to be honest but are severely hanpered by the loading time...it's astonishing on the time you wait when playing this game to load up. The character sprites of which you interact with seem unrealistic as it doesn't have much detail but the scenery in the game and other background features are superbative.

Gameplay is like a puzzle game at many points as your walking about putting things together and what not...I dunno to be honest as I've not played so far into it.

Conclusion...well to be honest I would not have bought this game if I honestly knew what I was getting...it's the last time I buy a game straight off the shelf without knowing anything about it...but I guess the game doesn't cost too much though which I am thankful about.

The word "Chronicles" should be taken literally

...I knew the game was based on a novel, and that it would move at a "Shenmue" pace. What really put a smile on my face, was the great story. This game DOES have some flaws. The camera sometime loses the main character, the load times are LONG (sometimes around 70 seconds). The gameplay resembles "Resident Evil: Code Veronica" control wise, but it's more like "Dracula Unleashed". You talk to this guy, go find the item, give it to that guy, etc. Also, you may not like the game intitially, but after about 5 hours, you'll want to see it to its end. I gave it 5 stars because it's priced well, and I like games that read like a novel. If you ever get stuck, go to GameFAQs.com and read the message boards. It has quite a following on both the Dreamcast Board, and the PC Board.

WARNING: Do NOT get this game if you don't like puzzle-solving. If you're an action freak, do NOT buy it. If you like a challenging, yet rewarding adventure, you'll LOVE it.

RECOMMENDATION: Play this game on an LCD monitor, using the VGA box. I'll NEVER play my Dreamcast on a television AGAIN!!

Wonderful for non-action gamers

I really enjoy this game, but I'm one that doesn't like constant fighting and blowing things up. The people are really weird looking (hardly any lips and they all look gaunt and ill from the beginning), but the scenery is breath-taking and storyline is fun. The game should be listed as errand-runner, not fighting/adventure, but it does take some intelligence to find what you need. ...I recommend this game if you want a relaxing, fun adventure. It does have some fighting and it takes a little bit to master it, but it is minimal compared to the dialogue and exploring.
