Funtastic!

Having read the series of Dune books and playing the SEGA version of Dune, I have found Dune 2000 to be more fun than ever. The graphics are improved over the SEGA version, however not quite 3D. As you conquer more of the planet, the level of play is increasingly more difficult and you are constantly fighting to survive. The upper levels for each House can easily consume an entire day. Dune 2000 is a simpler startegy game in that you have to consider your priorities on what to construct in order to survive the impending onslaught of the opposing houses. Controls are simple to operate and learn. The only drawback that I see is that you cannot save in the middle of a level. You must complete whatever level you are on before you can save the game. Despite this slight drawback it is a very fun game and easily playable.

This game rocks

This person from Ithaca doesnt like Dune, for it follows the plot of the story as much as an action/roleplaying game could. This game harvests spice, has Harkonens and Atredies, but as far as the Ordos, there wasnt such a House in the book if you recall, but LETS remind you, this is a game based on the fighting between different houses and is basically You command A house to destroy another, and like Command and Conquer Red Alert, you can play against another peson Via 2tvs and 2 playstations hooked up.

Fantastic

This game is a lot like Dune: The Battle for Arakis for the Sega Genesis. I was a bit disapointed with the level of the graphics, but the gameplay is solid and the sound is very good. I like the game primarily because it's easy to learn and you don't have to fiddle with a lot of settings to get things done. If you like "pure" strategy games, stay away from Dune 2000. But if you like strategy lite, this game is worth a look.

Solid and Fun

The Dune chronicles come alive on video? Well.... not really, but the game is solid and fun. This game is very similar to Command and Conquer with some improvements. As with C&C there is a story line to follow between missions which has some relavence to the books and worms will eat you troops.

If you liked Dune, You'll love Dune 2000

I fell in love with Dune for the ol' Sega. So when I saw Dune 2000 hidden in the back of some discount games I was browsing through, I impulse purchased. Dune 2000 ups the original, as to be expected. (It's not 16-bit anymore!) Better graphics, although not what one would expect, more scenerios, and some pretty neat video segways (even that proffesor from Sliders as the Atredies mentat!) are plusses. The menus can be daunting at first or when in a rush, however. I've spent many a late night plotting the downfall of each of the three houses. If you enjoyed Dune II, buy Dune 2000.

dune is not pointless

every one i know say this game is crap but i think it is quite good because you dont offen get to command armys that are bigger than the base you origionally built!!! strategy games are my favorite types, like the command and conquer series which were ace and still are. You also have the opportunity to steal buildings and nick their technology.
i also enjoy battering the ai twats and putting their troops in a kind of death camp. oh yeah that reminds me i have tip to get rid of harvesters here it is:
(you need to be ordos team for this)
1) build a mcv and build it in a desolate area
2) build a repair pad next to it
3) build set of conrete (the largest set)
4) then build missile turrets all the way round but leave one gap for an harvester to enter.
5) get a deviator and steal a ai harvester quickly get a carryall to send it to the repair pad near your 'death camp'
6) when it has arrived send it in to the middle of the turrets and close the gap with a wall so when it turns back it cant escape.
7) when it has been destroyed delete the wall and repeat the sequence over and over till they have no cash to buy with
Then launch a massive assault on their base

remember to keep the deviator safe from the enemy.

Not the best but still fun.

You get to control people in a 3D enviroment. There is only one camera veiw though, which sux. Other then that the game is cool especially the computer intelligence.

Initially disappointing, but it grows on you.

When I first picked up the box in an electronics store and looked at the back, I was exited to see the high level of graphics displayed on the box. I also noticed the words 'Westwood studios' and 'Real-Time strategy' written on the box. This combination is a guaranteed must-have. I enthusiastically bought the game and rushed home to play it. I immediately went into skirmish mode (which I believe is more fun than regular, campaign mode in all games) and began building my army. This game is supposedly a '3D' game. I notice this ONLY when I concentrate on seeing the 3D. Perhaps this feature would have been enhanced if the player could zoom in and out and/or rotate the view 360 degrees. The 'futuristic' units in this game look fairly modern. I wouldn't think that in 10,000 years armies still use bullets and explosive shells, along with tanks that look like those in the world today. Another disappointing feature came in the explosions. I figured that since this game was 3D, it should have some pretty impressive explosions; I was dead wrong. The explosions look like those in the original Command and Conquer. This reference to Command and Conquer brings us to yet another point of criticism. The game, although brightly colored and in '3D', is merely the skeleton of Command and Conquer, with a new skin attached. Since I am a Command and Conquer fan and long-time addict of the afore-mentioned series of games, the learning curve for me was about 10 seconds; this because the controls in Dune 2000 are IDENTICAL to the controls of Command and Conquer. Alright, enough with the slamming; now for the redeeming features of this game. After about an hour of playing, I discovered the significance of the starport structure. This allows you to purchase 'mail-order' units such as tanks and planes. You can purchase these items in bulk and the cost is immediately detracted from your funds. It takes about one minute for the items to arrive (up to six units at a time). This is much better than waiting a minute for EACH item to be built in the factory. I have found myself playing late into the night over the past few days. This game, though initially disapponting, grows on you.
