heart of darkness

This was a very cute game. It's not what i had expected but was still an excellent pick. I was looking for a role playing game which this is not. Its an adventure game in which the boy travels through very scary scenes killing shadow monsters. It has very good comic type graphics and is not too scary so that younger players can enjoy it. It does take some thought and trial and error to get through some areas so i don't recommend it for those younger than ten or so.

I personally have never been a big fan of side scrolling puzzle games. I tried Oddworld a couple of times and just wasn't able to get into it. Heart of Darkness however, was to my surprise a very well put together game. I enjoyed the plot even though it did seem meant for a younger age group, and the graphics are pretty good. You can definitely tell that 5 years was put into this game. Even if you're not a big fan of puzzle games (like me) I think you might just enjoy this game. The puzzles are not too difficult and the story lets you get involved.

A little scary for the younger crowd

I would have to agree with the other reviewer. It is not a game for kids under 10... I purchased it for my 7-8 yr olds and they freaked out as the first scene played out. The controls have to be tight, and whatever you do don't make a mistake. After trying it out myself, I kind of felt like throwing the controller down. One misstep and I had to start over. Oh well. Maybe the 10 yr olds have a better chance than I do!

What a Game!

i have'nt had this much fun since i played dragon's lair or enjoy watching my brother this game. it made me shake & laugh ,have'nt done that for a while, plus i was rooting for andy too win just like dirk the daring. so if you're a fan of dragon's lair , space ace , brain dead 13 then you'll love this one. for the arcade kid in all of us . highly recommended!! P.S. kids under five may have nightmares so be careful . good buy for money. it's a two disc, so it's long good luck with it.

Get immersed in the world the designers created!

The designers of Out of this World and Flashback, two of my favorite games back when I still actively used my Amiga computer, created Heart of Darkness. Sporting similar gameplay - and in the case of Out of this World, a similar short game length - fans of either of the previous games mentioned above should be right at home.

The computer graphic cut scenes are the best for the Playstation yet, in terms of image quality and in actual animation. While the cut scenes in Final Fantasy 7 and Tekken 3 are very good, pay attention to the lighting and the range of movement of the characters in Heart of Darkness. The style is a cross between classic Warner Bros and Jim Henson's the Dark Crystal, and I feel it surpasses even the first Toy Story. Getting back to the game, I have been waiting for a game with the animation quality of Dragon's Lair to have somewhat complicated game mechanics. Older games such as Earthworm Jim and Rayman began to approach this goal, and I feel Heart of Darkness is the closest yet. In terms of gameplay, be prepared for trial and error as you progress from screen to screen.

This may frustrate some, but it is rarely repetitive and I feel it is worth it to get immersed in both the story and the world the designers created.

i dont see what the awsomeness was in this game that the other reviewers did, but i think it was awful. i liked the opening scene, it was cute, but rite when i started playing it, im like, dude! this is horrible! it is like, impossiible to get those annoying little demons off of your character, and i agree with that other reviewer that if you make one wrong step, your dead and have to start again. its awful, i highly advize against buying this game before renting it.

Don't Waste Your Time

I rented this game once, thinking it might be a cool rpg/ puzzle solving. Boy- Was I wrong. This game is very boring, and has no real point. It is extremely hard to maneuver your character without a demon jumping on your back, or your character falling to his death. I gave up after the first level. Whatever you do...DO NOT buy this game.

A romp through detail, depth, humor, and intrigue

I'm pretty selective with my games, so I did a lot of research before trying the game, the graphics and sheer playability of this game were well thought of. I'm a huge fan of high graphic games. This game did not fall short at all!

The control is a bit off, and when the cinematics play, I find the voice over a little too quiet for my hearing; kind of frustrating if you want to get every detail of the story.

However, cinematic play is pretty smooth, and the background and characters have tremendous detail put into them. (I'm amazed at the detail that was put into the heros hands when he's rock climbing.)

Frustratingly, the enemies in this game pile on in overwelming proportions, within first five minutes of gameplay, so you better be quick to fire; IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE to get past them, just keep faith and persistence it doesn't take much to die in this game, but you also have unlimited lives as well, so theres never a gameover, until you put the game down. In every few screens you'll reach a save point. (memory card compatible too)

The puzzles in this game are not extremely difficult nor are they boringly simple, I would not reccomend this to anyone under 10 or someone with little patience or perserverence. It does take some actual problem solving.
The things that jump out of this game will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the storyline is pretty entertaining, with humorous parts in it, no matter what your age, if you want a game full of spooky eyecandy, and wholesome entertainment, that will keep you playing for hours, this is definently your game!

...I got to try it out at my friend's house and we were ALL entertained.
The animation is excellent (I'm in school to be one, I know these things), the storyline great, and the action nonstop. My friends love to watch me play, and we pretty much react as if we're watching a movie. ("No! Don't go there! AAAAGHHH!")
The game says it's rated "Everyone", but I'd keep it away from kiddies younger than 10 or so. While you have infinate lives and no health meter, the deaths are pretty gruesome, even without blood (demons snapping kid's back, other demons kill and actually start EATING the kid are among the many demises).
This game will keep you entertained for hours. I'm glad I found the game cheap, but this game is WORTH the full price, unlike many other games currently being sold.
