Buy MLB 07 The Show Instead

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 5

If you've been playing MLB 06: The Show then do not buy this game. I can already guarantee it will be a better game then this. The controls for this game are awkward to say the least. You use the motion sensing to swing the bat which might sound cool but it's really not. Moving a controller forward to swing a bat isn't cool at all. It's like the people from 2k thought they were making this for the Wii. Also compared to other PS3 games the graphics on this aren't very good. There are aliasing problems all over this version. $60 is a lot to pay for a video game and when it turns out the way this one does you will have a case of buyer's remorse. It won't be that long until MLB 07 comes out (April 16, I believe) so just keep playing 06 for a little longer.

MVP Baseball '05 ......It Is NOT! But..............

MVP Baseball' 05 by EASPORTS, It Is NOT! And that's sad because that was and still is the best game for baseball on the PC or any system going.

But MLB 2k7 is a very beautiful game to look at in HD, for that I give it 5 stars. It has a lot going for it in the visual/audio department, great graphics, ballparks, edit screens, sound(annoucers:Miller and Morgan) and plenty of team eye candy. But something is quite not right. MVP Baseball'05...It is NOT!

I quess I'm partial to MVP'05 and hate that EA lost it's hold on the ML rights to produce the game. So I'm some what bias, I quess. Here are a few things that I feel are negatives.

1.The fielding is semi automatic which is bad. You can't change it to allow the game to field for you.

2.There is no view from behind the pitcher IF YOU'RE AT BAT,

3.Limited camera views of balls hit, except in replays.(example: hr)

4.Pitching gauge is impossible on "Legend" difficult level to master in a game.

5.Bad manual

There are a lot of good things here about this game also which I don't feel like reviewing now, but later. I recommend renting this game before you buy it, if you're a MVP'05 fan.

Too complicated to play!!!

Very hard to play , sixaxis mode doesn't work very well, very hard to run with man on bases. No recomended for baseball players beginers.

Beautiful game, but the fun? Not so much.

So..... I rented this game. I am glad I did. If you are considering buying this game, I STRONGLY recommend renting it first. Perhaps I'll be wrong and you'll love it.. but if you don't like it you saved yourself a ton of cash.

First, the good:

The game looks great. It takes advantage of the ps3 hardware and really make it feel alive. I had someone replacing the tile walk by a few times, and he didn't notice it was a game until the 3rd time he walked by.

The voice overs are very well done. They are meshed well to sound like real comments being made by announcers. As you play it more, they will get a bit repetitive, but they still did a pretty good job here.

The Bad:

The Gameplay!!!!

Okay, on to the specifics.

The batting interface with the Sixaxis controller sucks. It is hard to see where a ball is heading ahead of time unless you get lucky with the batter's eye and as a result most will take lots of swings at balls that are nowhere close. It can also get somewhat tiring constantly shoving the controller out.. and you will do it pretty hard if you want to hit homers.

Speaking of home runs.. wow. I guess the game assumes EVERYONE is on steroids, but good lord it is easy to knock it out of the park. Tilt the controller back, time it right, and boom.. gone. This is balanced out by the cpu robbing you frequently and knocking it out of the park all the time itself. Maybe I am remembering baseball wrong.. but I don't remember people hitting home runs 3-4 times a game.

On the subject of robbing: This is the part that just got to me the most because it was so ridiculous. Here was the final straw for me: game 7 of the world series: down by 1, bottom of the 9th, 1 man on. There are 2 outs and the count is 1-2. I got a good line on the ball coming in and CRACK, GONE!! oh wait, the fielder climbs on the fence AGAIN and robs you of your home run AGAIN. This might be disheartening once, but when this is the FOURTH TIME that game that you were robbed of a home run it is just plain ridiculous.

Finally: base management. Stealing bases and moving your people around the bases after a hit is NOT easy. It is doable, but it is a major pain and mistakes are easy to make.

Overall, this was an okay game. But the gameplay.. especially the constant robbing of home runs just ruins it. My blood pressure was higher playing this game than any other game I've played before and I was ordered to take it back by my girlfriend before I broke the controller. Some might enjoy it, but you might want to experience the ridiculousness of the game itself as a rental first before forking over the cash to buy it.

VERY RENTABL.E

First off, I am a huge fan of baseball games. I was one of those people who's heart was broken when the mvp series was discontinued so then the decision had to be made...2k series or the Show. After last year there was no question that the show was better. I recently picked up a PS3 and since the Show is not out yet for it, I decided that I would RENT MLB 2k7. Bottom line is that the graphics are brilliant. But that goes the same way for every game that has been released for PS3 at this point. These graphics, however, are ruined by gameplay that was unchanged from last year on the PS2 which was the biggest reason why i went with the Show. For example if you have anyone at the plate that has any power at all...you will have an 85% chance of hitting a home run if you make contact and are pressing up. (Chipper Jones hit 4 home runs the first game I played). The computer will rob an average of 1-2 homeruns per game as well.
A projection that I have for the Show for PS3 is this. If it looks anywhere near as good as 2k7 and plays like the Show plays, then It will be the best baseball game ever made. Keep your money in your wallet until the Show comes out April 31.

its ok, but wait for The Show

The graphics in 2k7 are the best of any baseball game yet. All the ballparks are detailed almost perfectly & most of the players hit & throw like they really do.

However, the gameplay in this game is awful. Not only do the opposing players rob you of 2-3 home runs per game, but it is rediculously easy to win, and I prefer a challenging game. I am 12-1 in season mode so far, & I had one of my pitchers throw a no-hitter with 20 strikeouts. As you can tell by that last statement, the pitching in this game is way too easy.

So, wait a few weeks, buy The Show, and have a fun baseball experience with what looks to be great graphics (at least from the previews).

Liked it at first, but getting sick of same old stuff

I love baseball games, so when I saw that the Show wasn't going to be released until May, I figured I would just get MLB 2k7 instead since it was already out. Initially I really liked this game, until I started a season and played about 20 games. The graphics are great but, this game is so phoney as far as stats go. I have played 28 games and Alfonso Soriano has 27 home runs. I have the batter power turned almost down to zero and my guys are still hitting everything out. If you play in a stadium where the fences are short enough to climb, you will be robbed of homeruns at least 1-2 times a game. It is a rarity to score a run without hitting a home run. During a season teams get hot when they go on a winning streak. You might as well skip these games because it is impossible to win them. Cincinatti hit 12 home runs in one game against me and won 2 games 16-5 and 18-2. Everything was going out of the park. I thought I was buying a realistic baseball game not some pumped up steroid fantasy where Ozzie Smith could make a run at Hank Aarons record.

Fun game but lots of quirks

I really enjoy the baseball games for console play. The obvious favorite of all time, for me, is the MVP series on PS2.

MLB2K7 is the first entry with the MLB license on the PS3 so I figured I'd give it a try.

First off the game play is fun and there are a lot of different ways to set the difficulty and options on how to pitch/hit/field. Initially I was skeptical on the fielding because the game will not allow you to set it to auto-field, but the fielding is much more forgiving then past "sim" type baseball games, so I adapted fairly quickly.

There are plenty of different types of games to play, HR Derby, Franchise, etc...I am a big fan of the Franchise type of play. Here, however, is where a bunch of small quirks really annoy me.

The season is fun to play but there is so much missing and/or hard to find that it causes quick irritation. Examples are:

1. There is no quick access to "League News". You have to wait until you get an e-mail message in order to access the typical league news type of info.

2. There really isn't any way to be the GM of your franchise other then setting ticket prices and signing/trading players. That's not much fun.

3. Saving the difficulty level for the AI doesn't work. Every time I change it and save the settings the next time I load them they are back to default. Ugh.

Anyway, I could go on, but if you're simply looking for a baseball game that is fun to play (on the field) I'd highly recommend this one. If you're looking for a game that has all the "bells and whistles", I'd say hold off for another year or try a different game.

Go With the 360 version

MLB 2K7 is a good game on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360, but the PS3 version pales in comparison to the 360 version. MLB 2K6 wasn't nearly as good as 2K7 on the 360, but, given a year of development, the 2K7 on 360 is simply put the best baseball game ever made. Maybe the same thing applies to the PS3 version of 2K baseball because the first version is comparable to the first version of 2K baseball on the 360. I would wait for MLB 2K8 to give Take Two some time to figure out how to develop on the PS3 if I were to get the game for PS3 or just go ahead and buy 2K7 on the 360 right now. Hope this helps.

Good Solid Game of Baseball

I bought this yesterday for the PlayStation 3, and I must say that this is a huge improvement over last year's 2K6. The immediate thing that you notice is the graphics, the stadiums look just like their real life counterparts, and characters look close to perfection. The new "Signature Styles" gives each player a unique style that no other baseball player has. The GM Mode and Dynasty Mode are very solid, but they are almost the same as last years. The price of the game though, I think it should include more. It just seems like a $60.00 game should have more than it's PS2/Xbox counterpart. MLB 07: The Show for PS2 is out, and it is a very good game of baseball. When MLB 07: The Show for PS3 comes out, then we can see which one is better. But, for now this is the only next-gen option. Very solid game of baseball all together, but I would look into the Show if you have a PS2 or PS3.
