A Quality Playstation port of the arcade

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

Don't listen to most bashing this game, most are only doing so because they are trying to compare this title Nose-to-nose with the perfect arcade and dreamcast versions.Indeed this version cannot compete with those but its still a decent conversion and a TRUE feat of the Playstation hardware, considering its limited abilities due to lack of RAM.

Flashback to around 98' with the release of X-Men Vs StreetFighter for the PSOne,indeed it was'ent too great.Nevermind the lack of tag team the characters also had a limited amount of animation and there was slowdown. The title was still very playable but they could've done much better.

Since then Capcom learned their lesson and fine-tuned the PSOne to run such games smoothly.Marvel SuperHeroes Vs StreetFighter was an especially nice port and so is MvC.

The graphics are colorful and flashy with most of the backgrounds and effects during supermoves retaining much of their animation. The characters themselves look great and are also given a nice amount of animation. The gameplay is Fast and fun with little to no slowdown of any kind, even during screen filling supermoves.

Had the game retained true tag-team play this title would definitly be a winner as the graphics and action are all Excellent. But unfortunitly even the best game developers can only do so much with the systems limited RAM.As in Previous Vs games the main battle mode only allows 1-on-1 fighting.Though its still very fun for those who can look past the tagteam gameplay.

However there is crossover mode-Which allows Tagteam gameplay with the only difference being that you have to choose the same two characters as the CPU.It can get old fighting mirror versions of your two fighters but the mode otherwise replicates the Arcade versions gameplay very well.

While its no substitute, this version actually contains features not found in the otherwise Perfect dreamcast version. The PSX port allows you to play as Onslaught in both normal and giant forms! Very cool. The game also lets you save and view character endings for later and there is a section that allows you to view and get a good look at each of the special partner characters like Authur and Unknown Soldier.

Overall Marvel Vs Capcom for the PSOne,is a polished,Nice-Quality port retaining about 85% of the Arcade version. If you have a dreamcast you obviously won't want to bother with this port but if you don't have a DC and own a Playstation/PS2,this game is still a fine substitute.

pretty tight

At first when I played this game on a dreamcast I recently bought I said these words " who was the idoit who "translated" this worthless, lackluster edition of a once great game?". Well thank goodness for playstation. This translation is the best when it comes to graphics and replay value. The sound was fantastic but the annoying pharse form spider-man "Do your job"really nerveracked me.but other than that this game is a instant classic!

A must for any fighter fan!

This is one of the best fighting games ever made. The 2D world has not been lost. There are so many moves that I haven't Master. The loading time is slow but not as slow as Smack Down 2.Bottom line is that it is must for 2D Fighter Fan and for $30 it's not a bad with Playstation 2 with no 2D fighting games this a must have game

Buy this on its own merits, but don't expect arcade quality.

As the title suggests, this game does not nearly live up to its arcade counterpart. Of course, this isn't Capcom's fault, it's the limits of the PSX. Anyway, on to the review.

Graphics: The graphics are very cartoony, and not quite as detailed as the arcade, but they serve their purpose. The characters may have lost a frame or two, but they still animate well enough. Besides, with the action in this game being as fast-paced as it is, that sort of thing will not factor in much at all. And personally, I'll take 2-dimensional cartoonish characters over those dry polygon types who never change their facial expressions.

Characters: There is a decent selection of characters, each with their own differing styles of fighting and varying degrees of strength and speed. Also, the size of the characters factors in as well, as smaller fighters are harder to hit, while the larger, stronger characters can absorb weak hits as if they were nothing. Now, about the secret characters: in all honesty, they are pretty lame. Only two of them are really worth unlocking. The others are just cheap palette swaps of already existing characters, with slight variations on their moves. Also, you can unlock the game's main villain, Onslaught, but he's not really of much use either.

Sound: Most of the sound in this game is actually pretty good, but it tends to sound a bit muffled at times. As if the sound is coming from a cassette recording instead of a CD. The character voices all make sense and fit their characters very well, except Megaman... he quite honestly sounds like a Sailor Scout, or one of the girls from Tenchi Muyo. But, it's a very minor flaw. I've also noticed that the game uses a rather strange impact sound when hits connect, but that's no big deal either.

Music: If you can get past that "tape recording" sound quality, the music in itself is actually great. The Marvel characters have original songs, Spiderman's and Captain America's being my favorites. Many of Capcom's characters have music that is remixed from their older games, which I think is cool since it adds a little bit of nostalgia feeling to a very advanced game.

Story: Ugh... what happened here? These endings are even more pointless than those in Tekken 3. Especially the endings for the hidden characters... pitiful. Some of the endings have nothing to do with the character you're playing! These poor endings, along with lack of the tag feature, really kill the story mode, so stick with Crossover.

Gameplay: This is where the game really shines. The gameplay is still just as fast-paced as the arcade, and the speed can be adjusted to the player's tastes. The speed and high-flying action of the game tend to make the matches look like a Dragon Ball Z episode, especially the Air Combos. The game's controls are quick and responsive, something sorely lacking in many other PSX fighters. Forget the comments about button-mashing. Unless you're playing in the Easy and Beginner modes or on very low difficulty, button-mashing will get you nowhere. This game actually has an innovative fighting engine, and those who resort to mashing buttons are simply beginners who haven't figured it out yet.

Overall, Marvel vs. Capcom is a great title to own for the PSX, as long as you're looking for a solid fighting game and not a perfect arcade port. Its worst flaws have got to be the poor endings and lack of replay value (not enough characters to play).

EXTREME FUN FIGHTING ACTION...FOR ONLY A COUPLE A DAYS

Ok so Marvel Vs. Capcom isn't THAT bad but still...it I lean more to a different game if I could go back in time before I purchased this.Of course its not all that bad.Choose up to a huge variety of fighters, each with an arsenal of deadly attacks.Whilst crushing opposition into the ground, and recieving hidden characthers, my expectations of this being a great game deflated. My complaint- 3 modes of fighting- ARCADE, VS., AND CROSSOVER...yawn...it would be a great game if it had more options.Still it has enough cool features to hold its own

Summery - Ok, there is no Tag feature, this is still a truly awsome game(Although TAGGING was the whole point of the game) but heck, I love it, besides their is Cross Over mode right(Not my mode of choice, but it's there, right). It is a Great game to play with the kids since their is absolutly NO blood, and they can actualy get away with smashing buttons, even though I don't let anyone do it unless they bring thier own controller(NO way I spend my own 20 bucks to get my controllers screwd up). It is a great way to show off you'r skillz(*I misspell alot of things for fun that doesn't mean I don't know how to spell*), cream you'r friends like corn, and beat them like a drum. Plus, it is a great way to kill time whilst having alot of fun!

I'm now going to go into a brief discription followed by a score from 1.0 to 5.0 on each part of the game!

Gameplay: Pretty good, just a little slow down when more than 3 characters are on the screen at one time, otherwize plays farely well, not as good as the DC or Arcade versionds but very close! 4.7

Graphics: To me, ALMOST flawless with good anamation, had it not been for variouse cut out frames. Better than X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter but still nothing special! 4.3

Sound: Wonderfull! Music is cool and voices match perfectly, people say that Mega Man sounds like a girl from Sailer Moon or Tenchi Muyo, but I think the voice is perfectly matched! 5.0

Overall Translation to the PSX: ALMOST arcade perfected had it not have been for no Tagging abbilities, bad graphics, slowdown, and long loading time, but please realise that The Sony Playstation has limited capabilaty due to the 2MB of RAM that it has, if it had 3 or 4 it might have been able to have Tekken Tag on it(Hey, it was worth a try, right)
The only thing that bugs me is the INSANE loading time, and the slowdown when their are more than 2 characters on the screen, but they are not too noticeable, not much to care about at all! 4.5

All in All having TWENTY-TWO characters, and having an 78% out of 100% arcade perfect translation(Getting pretty "Technical" now!(HaHa)), Their are only 2 things for me to say: 1-This Game Rules, and 2-It Is Fun To Play, With A Fun Factor Of 9.2 Out Of 10 Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes is alright if you don't have a DreamCast, but if you do, don't bother with the PSX version, and see my DC review for a 5 rating! If not get the PSX
version, take my word for it, I have the PSX version and I love it!
