X4 is the best

If your looking for the newest game to add to your collection look no further!!! Mega Man X4 is the best(in my opinion) of mega man games. You can play as X and Zero and has slightly different endings for each adding replay value. Great cut scenes that will leave you shouting for more and a story line that will keep you hooked from the start.

a great mega man game for the playstation

First of all, this game has much better graphics than the previous X games.{due to the playstation} This game is high in difficulty.{unlike X5} This game is a keeper to any mega man fan. You should play this game if you want a big challenge. I would say this is the hardest X game so far,so if your a beginner,I don't recommend it at all.

Did Anyone Else Find it Tedious

This X game was just tedious. I remember the original X game on the SNES was fun, as were X2 and X3, but this one was just bad. Playing as X or Zero was fun, but Zero was hard to control and both storylines were, well, boring. I was almost to the point of yawning. Plus, it was easy to figure out who the final boss was for anyone who has ever played an X game. Additionally, some of the upgrades to Xs armor made him harder to operate, and, well, I guess what I really want to say is this was boring. I was bored stiff. I couldn't wait to beat it so I could move on to something else. Unlike X, X2 and X3, there is almost no replay value in this game. I mean, beyond the cheat codes for the special X armor and Dark Zero, nothing. I only hope that X5 and X6 are better, but I'm not sure if they will be.

Finally You Can Play as Zero

Yes as the title states you can play as Zero, and he's an awesome addition. You can play as Zero or X, but their paths don't cross. Each has their own story and one of battles is different depending on who you play as.

Unlike X3, in X4 Zero can actually use his sword and you get to play with him during the entire game. Instead of getting different variations of his sword like X does with his gun, Zero learns different moves. For example, when he beats Magma Dragoon, he gets a Fire Attack which is executed by pushing up and the Special Move button. These moves and X's Special Weapons don't take up any of your weapon tank (though X can charge up his gun and then it takes up your weapon's tank). X also gets armor which include things like boots. Zero doesn't get armor, but some of his moves take the place of armor.

The music in the game is pretty good, and the best songs include Zero's Theme and the Snow Base. The sound effects include voices, dashing, jumping, ect. The problems I have with the voices are that X sounds like a girl and the enemies sound stupid. The graphics are o.k., but they look like they could be produced by the Super Nintendo. The anime cutscenes are cool, but the voice acting is horrible. If Mega Man X ever gets an anime, it needs better voice acting, because the voice acting on this game .... bad.

Overall I'd say this is a great game,

mmmhmm solid game

First X game to hit a 32 bit console, and yes they did a DAMN good job

I didn't give it 5 stars because, quite franky, they could have done better. I mean X1 and X2 were much better so it shows that they have to be able to do better.
Good game, good price, if you haven't played it... play it now

A great game for anyone who likes Megaman games. Gameplay is great. It is a fun game. Kinda hard too. Depends on how good you are at the megaman games. Great scenes of anime. you get to play as X or Zero. Once you choose a character at the character selection screen you can't switch unless you start a new game. Good graphics. You get to find capsules like any other Megaman x game. Zero gets no capsules. Pretty much my favorite Megaman game. It is amazing.

Ahh, X4

Megaman X4, a game rivaled only by the SNES MMX titles! This game is definitely a well polished piece to have in your collection of megaman titles. Gameplay is great, with lots of "move too slowly and die" areas, cool bosses(although Capcom apparently ran out of cool names), interesting levels, and a very interesting plot. One of the more notable features of this game is the ability to play as Zero. This was originally introduced in X3, but then he was weak and couldn't fight bosses. But this time he's back and ready to kick some arse! In this game, you can choose between Megaman or Zero. Who ever you pick is who you are the rest of the game, which means Zero has more than one life and can kill bosses! Woo! Anyways, this game has a good level of challenge, being delivered more in getting through the stages than the bosses(although some can make you wanna bite a chunk of your controller off and spit it across the room, i.e. final boss). The weapons are really cool this time around. Capcom apparently had some real thinking time about weapons after two games' worth of dull weapons. The plot of this game is AWESOME, the Repliforce forms a Coup and they are labeled Mavericks. And in this game(and unfortunately, only this game, unless you look outside of the X series and count MM8), you can see the plot come to life in awesome anime cutscenes! (Capcom went lazy after this and made X into an unfortunate slide show with subtitles.) I haven't really listened to the music in this game, cuz I was too busy blowing stuff up in the enemy filled levels, so I can't rate it, lol. Anyways, this, X5, and the SNES titles are all great games and I would suggest you stock your gaming library with all of them(good luck on X3, cuz you'll need it unless you're made of money!). This game is a definite must have for someone new to the series and someone who grew up with the series. At least borrow it from a friend or your life will be shrouded in misery and pain!!! Muah hahaha!

Perfect for newcomers to the X series

I've been a Megaman fan nearly my entire life, and after 16 years of great gaming, I still play and enjoy all the MM titles I own. After completing the 3 mind blowing SNES MMX titles, I was concerned that a MM game on the Playstation wouldn't be nearly as good as the SNES games.

I couldn't have been more wrong! Honestly, I was absolutely blown away by this game. Sure, it still can't compare with the awesome SNES Megaman X titles, but who cares? This game rocks! It retains many of the qualities which made the SNES titles so much fun to play. You still collect heart tanks, sub-tanks, and armor upgrades from Dr. Light's capsules as you proceed through the game. You still battle 8 different maverick bosses, and the stages feature many different breathtaking environments.

A new feature to the X series which I was very happy to see was anime FMV cutscenes! These anime style cutscenes really help move the story along, as well as add a new twist to the series. The only problem with the cutscenes is that the voice acting can be exceedingly painful to listen to. Oh well, at least the voice acting in X4 shows improvement over that of the earlier Megaman 8.

Yet another new feature which many fans of the X series have come to appreciate is the ability to play as Zero throughout the entire game! At the start of the game, you are given the option to choose between Megaman X or Zero. But don't expect perfection, because whoever you choose, you will be stuck with for the rest of the game. This is the only problem with the character system. Sometimes, midway through the game, I felt an urge to play as the other character, which meant that I would have to restart the game from the beginning with that character. The music also didn't come anywhere near the awesome tunes which the SNES titles had to offer, although the music in X4 was at least appropriate...

But the good qualities of X4 far outweigh the bad. Basically, if you're a Megaman fan, you must not pass on X4. The cutscenes, new environments and weapons, and ability to choose different characters will keep you playing this game for longer than you would expect. If you don't at least try it, you're dead inside.

This review is hard to write because I am so mad that I wasted my money on this game. Oh whoopie, you can play as Zero the fighter, butt zero is how much I should've payed for this game. There isn't one thing about this game that I like. The story [is bad] and the fight and graphics are absolutely awful. If you want a real game, don't waste your money on this. Don't even rent this game. This game is so bad it make Pong look good.
