First off, this game is extrordanarialy hard for young kids at the age of 5-9 who will most likley get so mad that...well you can guess the rest. Now that i have explained the hard bit we'll go to the good:almost everything!Creatures are maybe not the best but the graphics for the backround make you want to just keep walking and build a summer house there!Controls are easy to learn! And you'll usually have plenty of time to remember unless you are trying to do every single secret area.Great story too.Fantastic voices!Very funny most of the time.Very cool powers. It's a shame loads of people need to have 3D now. When I first got this game(I was 5)I thought it was very fun and very cool.Every time i got shot i almost fell off the bench! Then I stopped playing after a while because it was hard. Then I did the whole game through using a walkthrough with my mom.I was so amazed! It was impossibly cool how well the game unfolded. Then I even saw that you get another chance! Then i stopped again and played it in my spare time. Now i have decided to go and play through the game with alot of secrets.I am hoping for a good ending. So far i am doing reasonobly well. After buying this game if you like it buy Oddworld Abe's Exoedoss. It only got better there...

You will get hooked!

A lot of the reviews here criticize this game for being difficult. I have this to say to that: DUH! Games are supposed to be difficult if they are going to be fun, right? If it were too easy, it might as well be a movie, right? (Though I hear that they are working on that :D)
Abe's Oddysee, as well as its sequels, have a few things in common that make them truly amazing:
1. Beautiful environments. I mean absolutely stunning. The artists working on this game capture an alien landscape with true finesse. There are a few times I just stop and gaze into the distance.
2. Great storyline, with characters to match. It's silly, but not so silly that it masks the anti-industrialist message. The game is something of a metaphor opposing clear-cutting and mass-species-extinction.
3. Refreshing style of play. It breaks from standard games by not having a life bar (one shot death in most cases), but that's balanced by having unlimited lives. Sure the puzzles are hard. Very hard. If you're up to the challenge, the rewards are soooo worth it.
Happy gaming, folks! This is a gem that shouldn't be missed.

uumm...ooooo...pretty colors...cool characters...aaahhh.

i got this game just tonight and already i think it is the most complicated game on earth i mean come come on this makes resident evil whimper as far as puzzles, difficulty, and oooohhhh my gosh graphics,do you have any idea how hard that is to do?still this game has only a few flaws and by that i mean the puzzles are way to hard, but lets ACTUALLY talk about the game ok?,good first i must commend the game on its graphical bueaty, this really brings out not only the humor but the magnificance of the woderfully placed and crafted cutsenes the opening movie is really interesting and well done and its really humorous.the game itself is kinda differnt, the puzzles are as you know are not being talked about here.the game obviously has a lot of potential to be an instant classic but not quite yet do i think the game has reached that level of greatness that it deserves, but i still think that OW strangers wrath beats the living snot out of this one,i hope that no offense was taken to those hard core oddworld fans out there but this is what i think of this rather OOD game on the playstation gaming delight consle,i hope that this review was helpful to you who are reading this, now according to my review this might not seem like a good buy but whatever you do,think twice and dont let my review fool you(i mean that in a good way).

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee is the most overrated game on the PS1! Let me tell you why it's so bad. For starters, it's main selling-point is humor, and this ''humor'' is mostly made out of repetitive and boring fart jokes. Second...it's insainly dificult! You can't fight back. So this means you have to run away every time a bad guy sees you. The frustation doubles when you consider that you die after getting shot once. To top it all off the story is supposed to make you root for Abe. (the main character) But do you? NO!! Because he's extremly stupid and unlikable like the rest of his race! (Abe is trying to save them from becomeing food.) I say they deserve it. this is a bad game folks, very bad. Oh...and the voice overs are bad to.

A very challenging game

This game requires skill, luck and intelligence to solve all the puzzles in the game. It's a good thing to have infinite lives, but it's annoying to start over and over when you die. I highly reccomend this game to anyone who likes a challenge every now and then.

I remember hearing about the Oddworld series when it first came out, and from what I heard a lot of people seemed to like it. But I didn't really think about it too much, however a couple days ago I got this game as a gift. I have to say, this is definitely one of the most innovative games out there. To me it's like a cross between Metal Gear Solid (because of the sneaking around) and Earthworm Jim (because of the weirdness). The story is amusing yet original, and it's interesting how things turn out for Abe (the main character) throughout the game. I won't get into any details about the story, don't want to spoil anything. The control is superb, as well is the music and the overall sound. The gameplay and graphics however, are the true highlights of this game. In the game, Abe is able to use weapons, sort of. However he doesn't have one throughout the game, the only way he can get them is through grenade machines (which only pump out one grenade at a time) or if he possesses a mind of a Slig, which are the only enemies that have guns. You are able to possess their minds through a kind of ritual chanting, you can control them however you want. You are also able to talk to fellow Mudokans (a tribe that Abe is from) that you have to save, and that's the whole point of the game is to save them but you have to be very sneaky to do it. Trust me it's not as easy as it sounds. What's cool is Abe doesn't just die, he regenerates. The problem is sometimes he regenerates at places you had the most trouble with, and you have to go all through it again. The graphics are some of the best I have seen on the Playstation console, the FMV's are flawless, no grainy pictures whatsoever. When you are controlling Abe, the environment is 2-D, but even then the graphics are still awesome and have a slight 3-D element. When you go into lifts and such, the game will change to 3-D, especially when you're in the bucket-like lifts or whatever. The only complaint I have about this game is it's EXTREMELY challenging, this game might seem suitable for little kids but trust me it's too hard for them. The person who said this game is too easy is lying, the guy never beat the game because this game is NOT EASY! There are difficult puzzles such as leading the Mudokans to safe portals and controlling enemies to your advantage. This game only has four types of enemies (scrabs, paramites, sligs, and slogs) but they're still a pain in the neck. The puzzles require perfect timing, constantly. This game is not forgiving at all and neither were the people who made it. It requires an excellent amount of patience, which I happen to have very little of. Either way, anyone who loves challenging (not to mention frustrating) games will definitely love this one. Regardless of the frustration factor, I highly recommend this game to any video gamer.

If you like games were you have to do everything over and over a thousand times before proceeding to the next area just to do that a thousand times more than this game is for you. But I don't consider that very fun. The controls are easy however and the game can be amusing and addictive at times but I certainly would not consider it very fun to play.

I wasted many, many hours of sleep back in college with this game. It reminded me quite a bit of Tomb Raider, but I found it to be much moe fun than any of the Tomb Raider series.

The premise is deceptively simple--you must rescue 99 of your fellow Mudokons from becming canned ham. There are enough puzzles and traps to keep things hopping for a long time to come.
There are a number of special actions (such as disarming bombs) that are hard to consistenty master, but its worth the effort if you ccan master ihem.

I'd advise getting the strategy guide as well. It'll save you some grey hairs and bald spots.

A good, fun platform PC/Playstation Game

The game is very fun and exciting to play, and I tend to get 'caught' by it. The difficultilevel, though, is very easy, but that's the only real bad thing - the game is too easy. It takes a lot of time to complete the game, and that also is very good about it. Personally I hate games, that are completed in less than two weeks after buying it - unless it is played very much every day, of course.

I think the game is really worth buying, even though newer episodes have come.

five stars!, definetely
