Addicting Game!

I first thought that this game was too silly but when I tried it I got hooked! The game is much like Dance Dance Revolution. But you don't need a mat for this one. You basically get into the rhythm and the beat to move on to the next challenge. It is funny and entertaining. If you have a bunch of friends over you can really have a party with this one. As a solo game it is a one-of-a-kind laughter-inducing fun challenge. I highly recommend this for people who are looking for something fun and unique.

In the rain or in the snow, PaRappa's got the funk flow!

I grew up playing this game, and when it came out I had never seen anything like it. As a music game, it is more about feeling the beat than watching the screen. The button timing is very well done. The graphics in the game are "flat" (think paper-mario) and very colorful. The characters are all very unique with highly different styles of music. From Mr. Onionhead to the Reggae Frog, this game will keep you singing long after you turn it off.

My personal favorite thing about this game is freestyling. You can press the buttons as you feel in time to "freestyle". If you get up to the level of "cool" then it's just you on stage, freestyling for a ton of points. Each levels "cool" stage is very different and unique and as you progress through the game, reaching the "cool" stage becomes quite difficult. While the game may appear short, if you love music games and will replay the same levels to reach each the status of "cool" on each level, you will have plenty of play time with this game. You just gotta believe this game is good.

You gotta do what?

I gotta believe!

There aren't many games that can top the fun of Parappa the Rapper. It's got great beats and great voices. So so so entertaining.

What's with the low average rating?

(I read over the reviews and there were only like 2 bad reviews...yet the average rating is very low. It must be a problem with the site.)

Man oh man is Parappa a cool game. I remember seeing commercials of this and being hooked on the spot. This could very well be the first music-type game released, and what a first game of its genre it is. There's nothing to hate here. The character designs are plain but original. Especially Joe Chin.

Parappa's gameplay is simple enough- you hit the buttons corresponding to the top of the screen: the buttons appear and you have to get the timing as to when to hit them to match lyrics. That's all there is to it really. But it gets much harder as you play along. Heck, the second level gives some people trouble even. The only real strategy for getting through the game is to tap your foot along with the music. That should make it easier on you.

Some people here have complained about "dumb graphics and story"...like either one of those matters. What matters is if a game is fun, and Parappa is definately fun. I don't know anyone that got sick of this even after playing through 5 times in one day. Actually, if you play the game via PS2 and set the graphics to "smooth", it looks a lot better, and there aren't any "jaggies" on the character designs.

Parappa also has one of the coolest soundtracks I've heard in a game. The songs'll get stuck in your head for days after playing through. Even the music between levels during the plot bits is catchy.

So give Parappa a chance to get a break from your silly rpgs where you just "care about the story". And pick up the game when you see it- as I think it's out of print. Just look at those insane used & new prices.

Greatest music game ever?

Wow, there aren't enough words to express how fun this game is. Interesting graphics, funky rhythms, catchy tunes (from rap, hip hop, to even reggae), a hip hop lovers dream. its a cool game thats worth a purchase, but don't go for the sequel cause its too weird and not too fun.

This here is some dope rhyme yo. Parappa brings a new level of entertainment to the Playstation. With such masterful rhyme weaving skillz, and insanely wonderful characters like Master Chi the Onion, how could you not dig this? This game is totally phat and I hope that you all invest in it, because it will change your life like no other.

This game was one that I thought would be another kids game. It's not, it's actually tons of fun. The game play thou basic can get very tricky. Hand eye cordination is tested to the max with this on. And the songs aren't bad either.

CLASSIC!!

I was about 20 when I first played this game and thought it was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen but the music was too catchy to resist. If you don't fall in love with this game then you don't have a pulse.

A very fun and very different type of game

Befor eI got to play it, my brother kept on singing all the songs, and it bugged the crap out of me! so i picked up the controller and tried it myself, and i was amazed by how fun(ny) this game was. it's much like dance dance revolution where you have to prees the appropriate button to the beat. the songs are annoying and cool at the same time. the dialogue inbetween songs are very funny, and the storyline is great. the only problem i found was the poor grading scale, which lowered your grade sometimes even if you were really close to getting it right. so now whenever i play the song where parappa has to pee, i lose because you basically have to hit most of the buttons or you lose. i still have not beaten it, but to the point where i got, its a very addicting game and if you have a playstation, or a ps2 for that matter, i highly recommend it.
