Just want to let everybody know that the second person who posted is completely wrong in his effort to correct the first user (and his lovely review) This game is the first original Lunar game in years and it is definately not a remake of any kind.

Just wanted to share that.

The game is great!!!

I can't believe some people out there!

For one, I have never played any of the other Lunar games, and I didn't do any research on this one before buying, it so maybe my opinion is invalid. I was in a store with some extra money bouncing around in my pocket, my mom saw this game lying on a random shelf, saw the "dragon" part, and suggested it to me. At first I wasn't really too interested. I mean, it looked okay, but not really "great". About five hours later, I was sitting in my bed with the light way after midnight on playing the game. I was totally addicted. The characters and story line are beautiful, and the backround graphics and music are stunning. I LOVE Jian's (the character who you play) personality and his design. Speaking as a fan girl...HE IS JUST SO CUTE! Anyway, I think that you really have to be mature to understand the importance of this game. The ending was beautiful, even though I have to admit that it wasn't the best of finishes. I was kind of hoping that it would go on. No, it is true that you never get to fight the final boss, Dragonmaster Ignatius, but, if you really payed attention to the plot instead of just impatiently cliking the A button through all of the text, then you would realize that you don't need to. Besides, when you fight him for the first time when trying to rescue Lucia, he wipes you out instantly! I mean, you would nedd over a million hit points to be able to even match him!

It was fun watching the characters mature and the plot progress. There were so many plot twists that I just kept wanting to continue. I also enjoyed the way that the battles were set up. You had to choose between Zen Mode and Regular Mode, and you also had to choose what attacks you would do and when. I mean, you never new who the enemies would attack next and how powerful the attacks would be. You really had to use your brain to figure out your next move. I didn't like the fact that every time you ran you started to loose hit points, but after you level up a lot, it stops mattering. I mean, you can heal yourself practically anytime you want to with healing gum and healing drops and Althena magic!

I am not really a HUGE fan of vidoegames, but I just couldn't put this one down. I wouldn't suggest this for people who do not like fantasy or who just want to play for the fights. I mean, you can spend time leveling up your character and battling monsters, but it is far more fun to play out the plot.

This is a summarization of my final opinion on the game:
Pros:
Interesting and classic characters
Advanced and spunky music
Intricate backrounds
Great plot with a lot of interesting twists
An endless supply of enemies
Cards to aid you in battle and that are fun to collect

Cons:
Not a lot of boss fights
Hard to obtain items for the jobs
Enemies were very annoying when they follow you around and try to fight
Hit point loss when running
Character graphics
(Also, I do not like the design for the cover. Jian looks like a girl!)

I really wish that there was another Lunar game with Jian, Lucia, Gabbi, and Flora in it. I can only hope that in the future I can be granted such a wish. I also hope that if you are pondering wether or not to purchase this videogame, that you listen to my minute opinion. I mean, there are a GARGANTUAN amount of Lunar fans who despised this game and would see it burned and spit upon. But as for me, I would say, without a doubt that this is my favorite videogame. Point blank. No objections. It outshadows everything, and I really wanted to see a sequal, but then I read that this game itself happened 1000 years before all of the other Lunar games, so I don't expect one. Even though the ending DID suggfest a sequal...I think they were just talking about Lunar Silver Story. Oh well, as I previopusly said, we will just have to wait to see what the creators of Lunar will come up with next. But, if you want a GREAT, FANTASTIC, MEMORABLE GAME, try Lunar Dragon song. YOu may just end up liking it.

Start reading more, please.

Its a well made RPG for the DS I give it an A+ but it is hard to get money, items, and EXP just because you have to keep switching between different modes and jobs.

it couldnt possibly compare to the other lunar games so why is everybody doin so?...

it seems to me that every single person that left a review, is a {"HUGE Lunar fan" the problem is these people are trying to compare the story of games some of which is several game discs long, to a handheld game that jsut CANNOT hold the same ammount of information. Lunar:SSSC and Lunar:EB can both be 60+ hour games with lots of time to build characters and story, Lunar:DS has about 20 hours and has an excellent story considering the time restraints, it just cannot be compared to the other Lunar games.

Pretty cool, with a retro feel

DISCLAIMER: I haven't finished the game yet, so I can't really rate the storyline. I haven't even played any of the previous games in the LUNAR series, so I don't really have much to compare it to or context to put it in.

That being said, I've really enjoyed this game so far. Sure, there are a few shortcomings, such as the relatively slow pace of movement, and the HP cost for running on the field map, but otherwise this is a pretty good game.

Unlike other RPGs that give you money for defeating enemies, this one actually gives the main character a "day job": working as a delivery boy for a courier service. This is a great feature, since I find that it's a lot of fun to fight monsters to collect stuff requested by clients. It's kind of like letting you choose when and where to do your own side-quests. I certainly find that it's more fun to quest for items for a delivery than to randomly fight anything and everything that moves for a few coins.

Another thing I like is the ability to fight battles in Auto Mode, which sets your characters to attack automatically, letting you set the DS down, sit back, and watch the action. The only thing I really DON'T like about the combat system's manual mode is that you can't select which monster your character will attack, taking some of the strategy out of combat. It's kind of frustrating to see a powerful character take out a monster that your weakest character could take out in the same turn when there's a full-health, stronger monster that he could have eliminated in a single hit.

While the graphics certainly aren't the latest technology in CG, they have a sort of retro feel to them that harks back to the days of the old SNES RPGs. If I had to compare Lunar: DS to another RPG, I'd say it's much like Chrono Trigger, another game that I enjoyed immensely. While the battle system is simpler that CT, Lunar has somewhat nicer graphics and music that actually makes me WANT to make use of the "Music Hall" feature (Lunar: DS's answer to Final Fantasy X's Sphere Theater or other games' sound test).

I especially like that the game allows the use of the touch-screen as the game's primary controller, but doesn't REQUIRE it's use. In fact, I've yet to find a situation that has forced me to draw my stylus. This is a great improvement over some other UBI games that have centered around using the stylus. It lets you use whichever input method you prefer, which is great for us old-school gamers who grew up with the old SNES-style controllers.

Overall, it's a cute game that I really enjoy playing. There are a few shortcomings, but nothing really major that I've seen so far. Maybe it's the nostalgia of someone who remembers as far back as the original 8-bit NES, but the sprite-based graphics are really well done, and the music is memorable. I would definitely recommend this game.

i brought 50 bucks to a gamestop once and looked around at games and i saw this cool looking game and thought wow, this looks like a cute lil' adventure game. i popped it in when i got home and it left me in the dust, simply, i didnt get what they were talking about. having never played a lunar game or, admittedly, never even heard of the series, i kept playing, cause i didnt know what to expect. when i got to my first battle i thought: oh no! crummy snes graphics! i even called my best friend about it. i continued to play and realized that, hey, the graphics were blocky due to the in battle movement and nothing froze up either. i agree with some of these people because i love fast action games but this game was ok and had good music. alot of games will take me away with there story line and this was one of them. the ending, however, came too soon and was admittedly a bit dissapointing. i decided to go back and train for a long time and thats where i am right now.

Just to correct the previous reviewer.
