Advanced SP just keeps getting worse and worse...

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 0 / 0

I originally had high hopes for GRAW after seeing what they had initially promised - Next generation gaming or something? I didn't know the next generation looked so poor. I bought the game for 50 bucks and quite frankly, I would have rather paid 20.

Afterwards, having hearing about GRAW 2 I decided to give GRIN one more chance. Except this time I waited for the price to drop to 40 incase it was the same fiasco. Much to my dismay, I was right.

Now I'm kind of a picky gamer admittedly since I only buy games with brands and makers that I trust or have a million people recommend to me. If your review of Rainbow Six Vegas was about a 4.5 out of 5, then we might be viewing through the same scope.

Single Player
If you're looking for some solid SP before you get to MP, it's just horrible. Right off the bat with Mission 1, I had bad guys really, I kid you not, who were right behind me with no cover or concealment blocking their view, who didn't see or hear me shooting just a second ago. This doesn't happen all the time I grant you but still it's kind of annoying to see this. -This is with the latest 1.04 patch at the time of this writing- Better yet though, my team which was following me, also failed to notice the dudes too. So there was just a moment of "is he on my team?" "is he some kind of scripted event?" But no, it was just poor AI and you'll be seeing this a lot in the SP game.

The weapons are pretty cool though. I would say the game survives in SP off of the weapons.

MultiPlayer
MP is pretty decent if you can find a good server. Depends on your style I guess but the MP part is pretty enjoyable around the boards if you can get a decent connection.

Conclusion:
If you like MP, perhaps pick this up now that the price has dropped. But if you're looking for some solid SP as well (I mean SP is included in the money that you pay for this game so if you want your money's worth, you should have a decent SP experience as well), I would wait til the game hits the bargain bin or wait for something else to show up.

It's not the Xbox 360 version. Not next generation graphics.

This game is completely different than the Xbox 360 version. I was very disappointed. This game lacks all the excitement that I saw in the xbox version's trailer. Nothing exciting in this game. So far it seems I've been running around on the Mexican mountains clearing spots waiting for something fun to happen.
The graphics not involving explosions are ok. The graphics in the explosions are very POOR!!!! This game does NOT have next generation graphics!!! The Xbox 360 version is next generation. This version has a completely different story line, a boring one in my opinion.
As a first person shooting game it's ok. Nothing horrible to complain about the gameplay just don't expect anything like the Xbox 360 version.
If you want NextGen wait for CRYSIS. It will be out winter 2007 for the pc. Go check out their trailer.

GRAW 2 Review

A very realistic first person shooter, with a credible enemy AI. As a single player game, the story line is good with my only complaint being that your team AI is not good. There are times that a portion of my team will die because they did not follow the take cover command. It is hard to micro manage them while moving myself along. Part of the draw of this game is how difficult it is to play and how easy it is to die. :-)

The physics video works well and the graphics are good. The high system specs of this game is a problem as a slower system running this game tends to be a bit choppy and sluggish when you are trying to gun down enemies.

As a Co-Op game, it has potential but is lacking a few very important items. First off, there are only 3 multiplayer maps (you can not play the base scenarios with a team). Red Storm Entertainment has promised a map pack download of Multiplayer maps but it has yet to be released. Secondly, for a realistic first person shooter Co-Op game, I expected more serverside settings to be available for use in coop. For example, there is no choice to set lives between infinite respawn and a limited respawn per player (a choice that made the original Ghost Recon series great IMO). You can not easily set enemy numbers on maps. There are also no time limits that can be set on maps (for increased challenge on maps). In short, your Co-Op options are limited in this game. A big disappointment for fans of the GR line in its current state. Lets hope that Red Storms promise to release additional maps and mods to boost the coop game happens.

not as good as the older one's

Ghost Recon 2 isn't as good as the older one's, once you die that's it new game. You don't become one of the other member's. You can't change men like the older Ghost Recon game's. So have your men go 1st. But still a good game.

hope its more like the one for xbox 360

I seriosly hope that this game will be more like GRAW2 for the xbox 360. if its more like the PC version of GRAW1 im gonna shoot myself. UBI is being stupid teaming up with those bunch of wanna be gamemakers GRIN. they totally screwed up the first game for the pc and i hope they wont screw this one up. But lets face it.. if ubisoft/grin does what it did to the first game, we can just say Ubisoft onley cares for the ppl with Xbox 360s and not the pc gamers anymore. messege to ubi: IF THE 360 VERSION WAS A SUCESS WHY NOT MAKE THE PC VERSION LIKE IT, i'd be glad to wait longer for that and not the PC version that comming out soon. GRAW2 better be good for the PC or Ubi Wont get another PENNY from me.

Good, but the first one was better.

This game is *much* shorter than the original, with many more bugs. I was very disappointed because I really loved the original and have played it several times. Even though I'm using an "approved" video card, I had several crashes that would knock me completely out of the game, which is very annoying when you're about to finish a level. In the last mission, I found that I couldn't even use the satellite (overhead) view since it would cause a crash. I've actually given up on completing the last level until Ubisoft releases another patch.
That said, the action is very good. The missions are similar to the original and in the same setting. If you enjoyed the first one, you like this one too.

Great game, almost perfect, but too short

This review is based on Single Player only, I don't play MP or online.
I played GRAW1 and finally got the hang of it so I didn't die every 5 seconds (I'm an older player, so don't have the teen reflexes required), so I really enjoyed GRAW2 even more, mainly because it gives you 3 manual saves. GRAW1 had none, making it much more difficult. The GRAW2 graphics were not quite as good as GRAW1 either, and it was much too short, but overall I'd say it's one of the best and most satisfying FPS/war games I've played recently. I would have given it 5 stars had it been longer.
There are some picky complaints I had, like my team constantly badgering me when I went out alone (they tended to get in the line of fire too easily), and those generals shouting at you when they want something, but they're minor annoyances.
Also in GRAW2, Ubisoft, in their magnificent charity, lets us skip the opening ads by just clicking the mouse button, instead of having to delete movies or hack files.

Great game, but too short and buggy

This is a single player only review. I have yet to play the multiplayer part of this game.

The gameplay is extremely fun, and slightly more forgiving than early ghost recon games. I've only played through on normal difficulty, so I would expect the harder difficulty to get rid of that forgiving factor (as it should). The graphics are what I would expect, and the controls are the same as your typical FPS. The way that you control your fireteam is extremely useful. It takes a little getting used to (using the middle mouse button), but after a little time it works like a charm.

My complaints.
1) Too short. This is the first time I've ever made that complaint about a game. I finished this game in a week of only playing a couple of hours after work each day. 10-15 hours of gameplay if you take it slow. That's not enough for me. However, multiplayer may make up for this.
2) Buggy. The game crashed to desktop 3 or 4 times during my first time through. Teammates get stuck sometimes. Move commands don't seem to get them unstuck, but giving the follow command gets them moving again. You can then order them to a specific location. Giving the follow command to all team members when you have a tank, airstrike, and/or artillery at your disposal will lead to you being targetted by them. I got myself blown up by doing that. That's poor programming.
3) Extremely long load times. My PC isn't the cream of the crop, but it's definitely above average. 2GB of ram, 64 bit Athlon 3600, etc., etc. and the load times were probably close to 60 seconds per level. I'm just not used to that.

Despite the game's shortcomings, it is still an extremely fun game to play. Hopefully later patches fix the bugs.

UPDATE 11-20-07

I've played some multiplayer now. The multiplayer is very good. I'm not a huge fan of the deathmatch and team deathmatch modes, but that's just me. I'm not good enough yet to not get destroyed immediately. I enjoy the cooperative modes and the rebel/ghost modes the most. There are a multitude of maps available online, and you'll find that you have to download quite a few if you want to play online.

Finding a server isn't always easy either.

I would still leave my overall rating the same. The MP is good, but not good enough to account for the overly short SP campaign.

What am I playing now? I'm running back through Half Life 2 on the hardest difficulty. HL2 is still one of the best SP experiences out there.

Tricky, fun, looks good

Overall: following in the footsteps of the first GR:AW, this is a good sequel. It added some nice features and better online MP. It has a similar story and look (graphics) to it, so the improvements are negligible.

Pros: Some of the problems of the first GRAW have been fixed. The AI does a better job, but still can get stuck (or lost!) on doorways or won't open fire on an obvious tango. But now when ordering your squadmates to fire a guided munition at a helicopter they'll do it fairly quickly. This comes in handy since a lot of times there is more than one target in a mission that requires the multi-purpose munition launcher (tanks, helicopters, etc.)
The gameplay is fun and realistic, and has some really interesting missions to complete. The single player is challenging. I made it through most of the game before getting stuck on this one part (kinda frustrating- just will have to give it another try when I have time).
The multiplayer has been improved, with quite the selection of "Kits" for each "Class" (Demo, Assault, Sniper) to chose from when playing Co-Op or Adversarial matches. I especially like the Co-Op where you and other members online have to take out a couple of tanks (without guided muntions, they'll take a couple RPG hits), accomplish a couple of objectives (usually involving setting charges), and clear out the enemy.

Cons: Even though your squad AI can be lacking at times, the enemy AI does a better job, and sometimes with better accuracy to boot. This can be rough when you have no cover.
Also, where before you could save at any point, this version you can only save at the checkpoints. The checkpoints happen often, but sometimes you wish they occur at other points, especially if you keep having to do a section over.
Even though advertised, the medic is not available in the PC version.

Added features: The support for this game is pretty good. Within a week or so after release they had already issued a patch to fix some of the bugs that users had found. And within no time they had released a number of map packs. I was pretty impressed with that.

Definitely would recommend this game, especially after the price-drop!

So hard it wasn't very fun

I'm not a hard core gamer, so shoot me if my enjoyment of a game is marred by the near impossibility of winning. Enemies always saw me faster than I could see them, and their guns seemed far more accurate than mine, necessitating many reloads in order to simply stay alive.

Having only four personnel to control was easier than keeping track of three squads as in the original Ghost Recon game.

Good gameplay though, good graphics, seemed stable enough. If you like tough combat, you'll probably enjoy this more than I did.
