This game is excellent! Spy Hunter has the perfect mix driving and shooting. One of my big complaints about most games is that they are either too easy (you become board quickly) or too difficult(you get frustrated and quit), but this game is PERFECT it is challenging to keep you interested, but it is not so difficult that it becomes frustrating. If you fail a mission several times you really enjoy playing the same level over as you attempt to complete the mission rather than it becoming monotonous. The levels are really well designed and fun to drive/shoot your way through. To clarify this is the most fun PS2 I have played yet!

Q would be proud

If you ever dreamed of fighting off bad guys in a cool car with James Bondian gadgets--this is the game for you! I love pushing a button and leaving an oil-slick for bad guys to skid into. I especially like the idea that the vehicle automatically converts from boat to car to motorcycle whenever the situation calls for it. For example; in one level you can speedboat through the canals of Venice blasting bad guys in boats. In certain areas of the level the boat can go up a ramp and will switch to car mode and allow you to drive alongside the canals. The control configuration is logically laid out and similar to GT3. One of the best things about Spy Hunter is the theme song--which is the same one from the old Peter Gunn T.V. show. The song is updated, sounds great and a good choice because it really psyches you up for a great futuristic spy adventure.

Midway's new remake of Spy Hunter was for me an entirely unexpected surprise in being that such a classic 2D hit could be this finely recreated on a Next-Generation system over ten years after it's reigning success on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). With such astonishingly fluid speed and responsive controls, Spy Hunter for the PS2 audaciously soars with 14 intensely enjoyable multi-task stages that direct the player to diversify playing techniques, experiment with each stage's impressive interactive-ness, and excessively integrate the player into it's vehicle transforming, high octane action, and emotionally addictive/cerebrally assimilating gameplay.

Though it does suffer from slight redundancy, no isometric (over-the top) view, a car reverse glitch, and an especially short playtime (3 hours for an average player), Spy Hunter sustains its creative bearings, passionate playability and proves unequivocally that great games from the past can be recreated with authenticity, engaging originality, and skill.

Recommended feverishly to any fan of the original game.

Game become annoying when you must continue running same missions over and over to get enough points to continue.

Great game, fun, exciting, good graphics- what else is there to say?
This is a great game for beginners, I just got it and have beat a few levels. I am kinda stuck on a level where you have to destroy these towers, but I have only gotten to try it once or twice. (My PS2 is getting repaired!) This is a very fun game and I highly recommend it. ...

If you havent noticed my title for this reveiw, Spy Hunter for the Playstation 2 is very, very, very BORING!!! Drive car, shoot things, change into boat, drive, shoot more things etc etc. As you can see, Spy Hunter is very bland and very, very, very boring. With no story, no action, and god awful controls,I rank Spy Hunter as one of the worst games ever made.I recomend that you DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Flawed But Still Fun

Spy Hunter is a fun action pacted game that is great when you first start playing it, but becomes quickly sappy and annoying. Having to go back through certain mission to complete certain objectives to get points really gets on your nerves. Also, the game really isn't that hard, except for a few missions and those are killers. I found myself doing one particular mission like 25 times. I did it so often that I had the entire landscape mapped out! But the game is pretty cool mostly because of the wide range of weapons you can use, such as targeted swarmer missles and a rail gun. The defensive weapons are pretty cool too. Overall though, Spy Hunter's a game to simply rent a play until you have to return it; don't waste your money on it.

Horrible and Agonizing Gameplay

Absolutely the worst racing game I have ever played. Takes forever to load and has extremely difficult and frustrating gameplay. Just NOT fun. Rented it for 5 days and returned it on the first day after 2 hours. The original SpyHunter was great fun to play, they should just rerelease the original and put this drink coaster in a waste bin where it belongs. Did I mention it was NOT fun at all? Go out and buy the original f-zero for the super nes, or F-zero X for the N64, or even Rumble Racing with cheesy graphics but fantastic gameplay for the PS2 which is a million billion zillion times better than this current incarnation of Spy Hunter.
