LIES+LIES=BAD GAME

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 4 / 7

When I first got this game it got good reviews, so I was excited. Then the disapointments came rolling in:
-Bad sound. Well I could I live with that.
-Bad controls. Can't live with that. I mean they're manageable, but overall bad.
-Now we get to the lies. It said there was 5 interconnected enviorments that you could roam around in traversing from one to the other. That was the main reason I bought the game, and the closest thing to it was free run. Max 4 laps, and you couldn't go from one enviorment to the other like it said you could.
-Bad crashes. Now after some major disapointments I could always look forward to bumping cars and causing traffic jams for a few brief minutes of fun. WRONG! All it does is bump, and nothing else.
-Graphics. Can't complain they were decent, but you have to have good gameplay to.
These are only a few of my complaints and is worth 5$ not 40$. I would avoid this game at all costs.

This game has only one flaw(and because of this flaw I havn't had time to discover any more). It's too hard.Once I hit something, such as a wall or a car, the other racers zoom right past me and I can't catch up.Also, there isn't enough time on the timed races(whatever those are called)and upgrading a car cost to many points,or maybe it just seems like that's because I can't even win the first race.By the way, while I was previewing my review,I noticed that I menioned* a second flaw. But now I just previewed it again, and I think that second flaw goes along with the first flaw,so now I say the game as only one flaw once more.

*how do you spell that?

Horrible game...

All the stages look the same, I guess the people who made this didn't take their time on it. You will get bored easily looking at the same scenes. The makers could've been at least creative with it, at least add some jungle scenes, volcanoes, mud, anything to make it interesting! I got tired of seeing indistinguishable stages. Plus the sound sucks.

WHAT A LIE!

i bought this game because it would have cool story-line, and like it says in the description that you could drive in free-roam around a massive enviroment. Brooke Burke isn't even featured in this game. There is no storyline what-so-ever, and the control of the car is terrible. The mini games are pretty stupid as well. The only positive point of this game are the graphix. The graphix are pretty good for portable. You shouldn't waste your money on this game like i did. $40.00 friggin' dollars for this peice ****. I dont think iv'e ever spent on something as stupid as this game. It also says that you can get scissor doors for your car...another lie. Even the multiplayer stinks on this. Each player needs a game card.
PROS:
Graphix
the amount of things you can trick out your car with.
CONS:
the audio( the music in this game is the most annoying audio i've ever experienced in my life)
the game its self, there is no storyline at all.
the mini games are terrible and completely stupid.
the overall control of your vehicle while racing.

OVERALL: This game is the biggest waste of money in my life, dont waste your money like i did. If you still want to play this game, borrow it from a friend or rent it.

Good but Fundamentally Flawed

I preordered this game after seeing the graphics, and when it came I eagerly popped it into my DS. It does have great graphics, and the controls are pretty easy to use. However, it stopped being fun after about an hour.
First of all, the controls aren't quite flexible enough. Although they are responsive, they seem too easy to master, so much that just holding the A button down through the entire race is a viable option.
Second and worst of all is the difficulty. This game is very, very, hard. I know I'll be flamed now by a dozen people telling me that this problem is just my fault, but it's the truth. I'm not the only person who thinks this. Nintendo Power, whose review I read too late, complains about the difficulty too. After a few races, it becomes so hard that you know you're going to lose. The AIs have almost-perfect control, and the traffic--it would be OK if you could avoid it, but some is 100% unavoidable, literally, since it comes from side-streets that are blocked off and they are invisible until they charge into your lane. It is so, so, hard, that I basically stopped playing after about two days.
Thirdly, the music in this game sucks. In that there basically isn't any. The car sounds are OK, but nothing special. The worst music is in the mini-games (which, by the way, are crap that were basically included so they could make use of the touch-screen) where there is no music. At all. Just silence.
The customization feature seemed fun, but I never got enough points to do very much.

In all, Need For Speed: Underground 2 for the DS is game that could have been wonderful, but is fundamentally flawed and loses most of its fun.

Final Rating: Rent

I think Need for speed sucked! i thought this game was not cool at all becuse your car is hareder to control and if you have a break away from anyone else a car will apear right in front of you.

Fun and challenging, with some flaws

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 7 / 7

Overall, Need for Speed: Underground 2 is a fun, challenging, and addictive racing game -- if you can tolerate it's flaws. Be warned that this Nintendo DS version of this game is a very stripped-down version -- which is understandable, considering that it's a handheld game. There are some things you should be aware of:

2) Although many have said that the game is free-roaming, be warned, that is NOT the case. Although the console and PC versions are free-roaming, with this DS version, on all of the game's six tracks you can only go on a certain path -- with a VERY few exceptions, you CAN'T turn onto alternate roads at intersections -- you are limited to a specific route.

2) Those who have said that this game is extremely difficult are correct. Although expert gamers will have a lot of fun with it, this is NOT a game for novice or intermediate gamers. The races are very difficult to win, and often you have to dodge traffic while racing. Although the challenge of dodging the traffic will be a lot of fun to hardcore gamers, casual gamers may find it to be too difficult.

3) Although the game supports multiplayer, it does NOT support single-card multiplayer -- each player has to have his/her copy of the game.

These flaws aside, this is a fun and challenging racing game. It's races sometimes keep you on the edge of your seat...

One of the best DS games out!

Besides Mario 64, this is the best DS game out.
Pros:
-AMAZING graphics!
-You can unlock MANY parts for your cars, and customize them
-The touch screen makes it easy to choose parts and make your car the way you want
-You can draw your own decals to put on your car with the touch screen
-There are mini games to play
Cons:
-If you want to do multiplayer, you need to have 2 game cards, one for you, and one for your friend/whoever.
-Some mini games are VERY hard
-Drawing decals isn't that easy. It's not like "Pictochat", they give you BIG pixils to color, so the decals come out really bad.

Overall, I give the game 8.8/10
I think you should get it, the replay value is excelent! One of the best DS games ever!

Almost Flawless

Overall: Overall, if you really enjoy the street car life, girls, cars, and the VROM VROM sound, then yeah, NFSU2 is for you. There are some flaws though, but overall, I would say with no doubts that this is the most fun game in the racing genra. If I had to say what the most entertaining part of the game is, I would definately say the customization by the way.

----------------------------------------
Gameplay
----------------------------------------
4.5 - What I think that seperates NFSU2 is the customization. Driving around in your own boring stock cars gets boring, and just doing race after race just plain blows. Well, the guys at EA came up with the idea of being able to customize your performance, your body style, your paint job, and your specialties (neon, spinners). There are literally thousands of combinations of cars possible, and you can let the clown out in you and make a hilarious wierdo car, or let the ladies man come out, and make a rockin' pimp mobile. The only flaw in the gameplay, is traffic. Traffic was an idiotic idea. You'll just be driving along, and you'll go on a turn, and you'll blindly smash into a car, and have to restart the race, and sometimes on really long races, this gets really irritating.

----------------------------------------
Sound
----------------------------------------
5.0 - The sound is what makes this game just plain awesome. The tracks range from techno, to heavy metal, to hip-hop. They already have them preset so the techno and heavy metal play when you're racing, and the hip-hop when you're in a shop. If you want to switch around when the songs play, you can by going to EA Trax in the menu. I have never ever had a problem with the sound. A+.

----------------------------------------
Graphics
----------------------------------------
4.0 - The graphics are really quite impressive in this game. Especially for a Nintendo DS. The lighting effects really impress me. The only problem is the crashes. If you look carefully, if you hit a car in a head-on collision, your front bumper will go through it, and come back out. Sometimes it glitches because it ends up loading while you're racing, and you will look like you're hopping. The graphics aren't the game's best feat, but they still are pretty dang cool.

The Best DS Game Available Now!!

I love the NFS series, and I wished I had a portable version that was pretty good.. well I got what i wanted and more- a game VERY good. The racing is realistic, there is a HUGE amount of customization, ( there are only 18 cars, but it doesnt stop the game from being amazing ) Here's a little breakdown:

GRAPHICS:

4/5 - For the DS in these early few months and in it's first year since release, this is the best it's gonna get until the creators put more time into the graphics. They are not as good as the PSP, but I don't think graphics matter THAT much - do they?

SOUND:

3/5 - The sound is one of the lower points of the game. The revving of the cars and the engine sounds are pretty good, but basically the sound is just dull. There is nothing going o in races except for the engines sounds, and the cheap music playing in the background. ( there is no liscensed music ). You might just want to listen to your own music and mute this.

CONTROL:

4/5 - For a handheld game without an analog stick, driving games may be a little tough for some; but not me. I played this game and thought it was a little strange at first, but after just about half a race I got into how you have to stear and let up the gas. It's overall pretty good for control.

USE OF THE TOUCH SCREEN:

2/5 - There is virtually no use of the touchscreen unless you want to use it to scan through the menu, which you are better off doing with the D-pad and the rest of the buttons. There are some mini games in here to try and make it be of more use, but they are extremely boring, repetetive, and have no sound or ANYTHING.

FUN FACTOR:

4/5 - Simple as this: If you like racing games, buy it. But even if you don't, you should at least rent it once or twice.

FLAWS:
The major flaw in this game is definitely the lame crashes, and followed closely by the difficulty. Though it's rather easy to get parts for your car, there is a time that will come when it is extremely hard to win. About those crashes: Horrible. All the none racing A.I. cars are ALL semi's ( that i've seen ) and when you hit them, you're bumper goes into it a bit, and you just bounce back and just stop. If you crash once, you are more than likely going to lose the race if you were in first and he was on your tail, or if you were already in last.

Aside from the problems, this is one of the better games on the DS. I may have just rented this one, but I'm most likely going to purchase it some time very soon.
