Tecmo Super Bowl

This is the best football game for the original Nintendo. Sure the game is over 10 years old, but many people still play this game today. The graphics are about as good as can be expected from the old nintendo system. You can probably play an entire season over a single weekend if you want to. Those looking to escape the over-done realism of today's football games, that take months to complete, would like this easy pick-up-and-play football game.
Quick run-down of the game.
You have control one of the 26 NFL Teams. Remember this is a game with NFL rosters and teams from 1991. You can control more than one team if you like. You can also simply coach a team and let the computer play it out, but that is pretty non-interactive.
You can design a personal team playbook with up to 8 plays.(4 pass 4 run). When you pick a defense you have to pick one of the 8 plays to defend. Your defense will respond depending on what play you call. (If you call a run defense against a pass play you might get burned). Another weird thing is that the offensive skill players ie: quarterback, runningbacks, receivers, can get injured. But none of the lineman, defensive players, or kickers can get injured. Also your players will be faster, break more tackles, and make more big plays depending on their health status ie: bad,average,good,very-good, and excellent. Once you get the hang of the gameplay it is pretty easy to light it up against the computer, so don't look to be playing this game for months on- end. This game is probably best enjoyed with a group of friends, as there are much better one player football games out now. But this game is probably the best of the 2-D football games.

Possibly the best football game ever

Although video games have made giant leaps in technology and graphics since 1991, no video football game comes close to matching the ease of play and fun head-to-head action that Tecmo Super Bowl provides. It is also the grand-daddy to all football games that followed, as it has real pro rosters, allows for substitutions and play changes, and features multi-player full seasons. If you ever want to challenge yourself, try taking the 1991 New England Patriots to the Super Bowl.

Best ever!

This is the best football game ever. It was well ahead of its day many years ago, and it is still fun to play today. For head to head competition, there has never been a better game to test a player's skills. The games of today play themselves too much. They just don't make them like this anymore.

Best football emulator

This is simply one of the best nintendo games ever made, and the best football emulator of its time. Real time stat tracking, playing a whole season (with playoffs) either vs. the computer or your friends, and using real NFL teams/players, it was way way ahead of its time and is still as addictive now as it was then. Sure it has some goofy play aspects that are bogus in terms of "real football", but it's still a challenging skill game, and definitely a nostalgic favorite for anyone still using the original NES... either with the old TV game box or using an emulator online. This one set the bar for football emulators, and it still stacks up well with the new ones today.

Greatest NES game of all time

Ok,if ur into sport games, heres the main start of em all. Was it the first, no, but this is the most influencial(dont mind the spelling if I'm wrong). Tecmo Super Bowl is the game most gamers today will remember forever. Endless hours of fun gameplay, whole season options, stats, and oh yea, INJURIES. The greatest part of this is seeing ur injured player off the field, then a few games later ur recovered player hops out of the hospital and even gets waved to as he leaves. As silly as that seems its the first sports game i can recall with an injury option in it. This game is still most enjoyed with buddies playing multiple player seasons(oh yea, u can control as many teams as u want throughout the season), running for 200 yards a game or just tossing it 70 yards down the field for the long ball. Outdated, yes, over the edge, probably a little but still the greatest sports if not NES game ever. I assure you if ur a younger gamer and want to know where all the sports franchise games got their idea i strongly suggest this game. Would score this a 10 star if possible because its that fun, that good and that damn addicting.

This game is the best football around, while DSF has more of a complex system along with madden, TSB NES IS CLASSIC. there are injuries and recoveries, an injury will play a musical sting called "Hurting" plays while the injured is helped off the field of the TECMO referee and the TECMO First-Aid Team. When a player is recovered, you see the player running out of the hospital while a sting called "Recover", the nurses wave good-bye and good luck to the recovered player while the display says
"TECMO FLASH!"
(Name Of Player)
[Flashing Lights] "RECOVERED!"
The game play is simplistic and easy, difficult it is although!

I'll keep this short and sweet--There is no other game for any other system with more testosterone/adrenaline-action than Tecmo Super Bowl (sorry madden fans).

The greatest NES sports game ever made. Period.
