Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire

This game is a big improvement over the last Gundam game, made for the PS2. The Mobile suits in the game are impressive.

I am a Gundam fan, ive watched the shows and love the games, my favorite being federation vs. zeon. I would reccomend this game to mostly just a gundam fan because this particular title doesnt offer much to bring in someone to the band wagon. Overall the graphics are very nice, attention to detail is the best so far for the gundam series, however there is a framerate problem. At times it can seems like the framerate gets choppy, but it clears up really quickly. Gundam vs. Zeta had it even worse when it came to frame rate. As for replay value its definately there, i dont see why other gamer sites rated it so low, i actually enjoyed getting more pilots under my command, and buying more and more gundams to serve in my army. Great game.

this game's worth the money i spent on it.is it the best gundam game, no. but is it the worst, far from it. im a huge gundam fan, and idc wtf anybody says, this game is fun, and the graphics dont look like their for the ps1. it's a pretty good attempt at a gundam game for the ps3

I will preface this review with the caveat that I am a big Universal Century Gundam fan, which accounts for much of my enjoyment with this game.

Graphically: As others have said, this is not the most spectacular looking PS3 game out there. The interactive environments help to make this feel less like a PS2 game but the overall appearance of the terrain is a little last generation. The mobile suit and mecha models are amazing though! The problem is, there is no model viewer, a standard in most Gundam games, so you can't take your time and really enjoy the various models.

Gameplay: This game is ridiculously hard at points, if you are trying to do things carefully or use team tactics. You pretty much have to throw tactics to the wind and charge in madly, to hit objectives before you're MS is torn apart, ignoring the enemy Mobile suits that are murdering your wingman and shooting you full of holes. The more realistic speeds are hard to get used to since everything moves so fast these days, but I don't necessarily feel this was a bad thing to do. You certainly feel like you are moving about in something massive. I also liked the regional damage, where you can have arms, legs and head damaged or shot off. It's very satisfying to complete a mission when you are missing weapons, limbs and a head! The targeting system can get annoying though, especially since the enemy can target you long before you can target them. It's not perfect, but the controls are functional, and once you get used to the speed and tactics of the fighting, you can definitely finish a campaign on normal mode in a few nights.

Music: Contrary to reviews I have seen elsewhere, I think the music is really outstanding in this game. It features full orchestra, and all new compositions (not just the classic Gundam music that gets recycled in every U.C. Gundam game.) It has a big, epic sound to it, and I enjoyed it so much I ordered the CD soundtrack from Japan.

Customization: You can customize your mobile suits, which is a nice touch, especially when you change the various types (Desert, Heavy etc.) For Gundam fans it's a neat way to see the various pilot and variant paint schemes/designs. You can also get better pilots for your wingman, but here again they seem to have skimped and you only get names, without even a portrait to identify them. Unless you are a hardcore UC fan, you won't recognize a lot of these people so they won't have the significance that they should.

Story: There isn't much of one at all. The missions are pretty generic (capture this base, now defend it, shoot down this transport, etc.), and contrary to the cover's claims, you don't have any effect on the overall war. The Feddies still win, no matter how well you do as Zeon, and all the major events play out just as they did in the series. I was also shocked that there was no high quality intro movie. There is even a little animation on you PS3 menu that plays a clip from a high quality rendered movie, but it's not on the game itself!

Summery: It's a good game, but it feels like it was rushed in development. Parts of it, like the music, and mobile suit models are amazing, and other parts, like the terrain, co-pilots, and game play don't feel finished. Some of it (like cut scenes or more in-depth story) isn't there at all. It's still worth picking up if you love Gundam, and understand what you are getting, but it will no doubt disappoint most console players.

Great game for a launch tittle.

Let me start by saying I'm a Gundam fan, but not a fanbay;I can't name every mobile suit or character name, heck until recently I thought the Gouf MS was pronounced "Goth", like in Gothic. On to the review.

Graphics: 4.85/5 Sweet, but I've seen seen a little sicker graphics on my PC, albeit that my PC has almost all the latest hardware. Still, this is the best looking Gundam game to date. It's almost mind blowing.

Game play: 4/5 It plays like a revamped version of MS Gundam: Federation V. Zeon. The controls are very good, but the R2 button for the sniper mode is very sensitive; if your finger even lightly brushes up against it you go into sniper mode, which is really annoying. There are two campaigns: Federation and Zeon. There are four levels of difficulty: Easy, normal, hard and very hard. Lots of mobile suits from the one year war, all of which are customizable. Pilots gain levels and become better over time.

Difficulty: Varies

Replay value: 4.50/5 It has two campaigns; each can take any where from 4 to 7 hours or up to complete. It has new-game+ type of feature that allows you to keep all your MS, Pilot levels, cash, and rank which all carry over to your next play through, but the difficulty level is automatically up-ed by one each time. Plus it takes multiple play throughs to get the best pilots and other sweet stuff like the MS suits that the enemy uses.

Pros: Lots of Mobile Suits. Strategy and RPG elements. Two different campaigns. High replay value. Best graphics for a Gundam game to date.

Cons: R2 button issues. Needs another difficulty mode to account for replays. No space missions. No character voices or anime pilot scenes like in previous Gundam games.

Overall: A very good game for anyone whose into Gundam or giant robot type games.

It would make a better coaster....

I was so mad when i played this game....i was hoping it would get better...but no...the controls are like driving a broken lawn mower. The invisible walls are really annoying. Atleast in Armored Core you can go alittle past without leaving the mission, but this is just stupid. If i had to put a price on this game..hmm they would have to pay me to play it..it is that horrible, that disgraceful. The people who made it obviously have no ability to understand what would be fun in a mech game (derranged howler monkeys for techs?). I got so bored and annoyed with this game i put it in the microwave, you can guess what happened then. Do not buy this game if you have an IQ of greater than 12 or it takes something more than "ooh shiney" to entertain you. Armored Core on the regular old playstation (one) is more entertaining than this, it does not even use the graphics of the PS3 well. Gundam has a wonderful story but this game does not even try to do it justice, this game should be forever stricken from the records. If you want a good mech game...get armored core...let this one rot in *censored*. DO NOT even rent it, you will just be thinking wow...i could have got a pepsi/coke for the money i wasted on this. The only reason i gave it one star in each category is because zero was not a option.

A kind of sad way to continue the gundam saga

When I purchased Gundam: Crossfire, I was expecting a world-class, hi-def game for the PS3. I was wrong. Although the mobile suits have hundreds of tiny details, the scenery looks like something a 6-year old could have easily made. The gameplay is frustrating, more commonly is one's mobile suit destroyed than a mission is completed. However, the reason I'm giving this game 3 stars is because it was exhilirating to unlock and order new, more powerful mobile suits such as the great GM Sniper II. Overall, if you're a huge gundam fan, go ahead and buy, but if not, this game is a waste of money.

Gundam The Great

I love this game and would recommend it to any one that is a Gundam fan or just someone looking to try something new. I never before played any of the previous games on the PS2 but after playing this game I went back and gave a few of the old games a look over. They are all very fun, colorful and exciting. This newer version Gundam Crossfire for the PS3 system is outstanding in my opinion. I played and beat the game three times and each time it gets more and more exciting. Each battle you become stronger your skills increase leaving the enemy helpless. I have played countless amount of times on the very hard setting achieving the rank of General while unlocking Gundams of all types as well as enemy mobile suites that are not selectable until completing the game with good ranking. I've found that the Gundam is the strongest followed by the Gundam Ez8. I say give it a try. Play it, beat it and keep going. See how fast you can complete the game as well as the individual missions. See if you can get a perfect ranking of 'S' on every mission, see if you can complete most if not all mission without being hit by enemy fire. Make it fun, challenge yourself, challenge the game. See if you have what it takes to be a Gundam pilot. Thanks Amazon I love it. Forgive my spelling if there are miss spellings. One more thing. Wish I had researched beforehand

I bought this game as a gift for a friend who owns a PS3. We both like sci-fi and giant robots so I figured this would be fun for both of us to play. The back of the game said it is a one or two person game which I foolishly assumed meant that there would be a cooperative mode. There IS NOT! You can play one player campaign mode or two player head to head.

First, the instructions are pathetically incomplete. We're seasoned gamers but we spent a long time trying to figure out the optimal use of the controls. One particularly bad bit of gameplay is the fact that you cannot move when you use your shield to guard.

Second, the graphics are terrible (incredibly blocky) as others have mentioned. This looks like it could have been a PS1 game and that was with the HD graphics on a 60 inch 1080i HD television!

Third, the head to head gameplay starts you off like an old west shootout with both robots facing directly towards each other a very short distance apart. There was no time to use strategy, just start firing away. On a side note, the beam gun seems to unbalance the game.

We played for a couple of hours before getting thoroughly bored and we went back to playing some PS2 games. Please don't waste your money like I did.

Put it this way, if Amazon had the option for zero stars, this game would get it. Graphics are sub-par, gameplay is just plain bad. I rented this from Blockbuster, played it for a few hours, then returned it that night. Of the all of the titles released or due for release for the PS3, this one gets my vote for being the worst. You'd think the developers at Namco would've realized this before they released it. Don't waste your time or money.
