pretty good.

Yes, this game is fun. And highly original. But also frustrating and pretty difficult. Don't get this game if you have shaky hands or bad eyesight. You need to be very precise with your incisions and removal of tumors and glass. I don't think the game explains your equipment enough either and leaves you to your own devices too quickly. Though after several failed attempts you'll eventually realize what you need to do to keep the patient alive.

I didn't find this game to be all that addictive. I like playing it, but usually after about a half hour or so I'm through. If you've ever had some kind of yearning to be a doctor, then definitely pick this game up. It is very unique.

Hand cramping, stressful frenzy of a game, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've played probably 20 different Nintendo DS games to the finish and I have to say this is the most frustrating game I've ever played. I love the early missions and the creativity is awesome, but the controls are kinda blah. Several times you'll find yourself redrawing the zoom, over & over & over as your patient (& patience) dies. Redrawing stitches over & over gets tedious fast. The game has good intentions, but unlike most games that I just couldn't put down, this one I have to put down to release tension both in my hands and in my mind. I am looking forward to seeing the improvements in the upcoming release.

Why? Why? Why?

Why do developers make difficult games? Ok, so some gamers might like challenging (not mentally but mostly physically)games - so why not provide an easy mode??

This game has a unique concept. pretty good idea. However, the fact that it needs too much focusing and it's really hard, makes the game unbearable to play any longer.

I played it until the episode 3-6 or something. Thinking i will get into it more and it will get more fun. NO! It just gets more frustrating. Every single operation has the same elements: you start thinking it is an easy one (all the doctors and the nurse think the same thing as well)..well, wow, surprise, more things to take care of during the operation. at first this was kinda surprising so it was fun. But then, i knew that at every operation something had to go wrong. gets to be pretty boring. (whew doctor, now we can relax, let's close the incision....what!!! doctor, there is more!!! quick the vitals are dropping!!!) this is only fun when it happens once, not like 20 times.

you are required to be very precise, but the game isn't that price - it cannot detect the touches that well and the patient dies! the touch-screen technology in the world isn't at its best yet - meaning touch screens aren't 100% good at sensing. So why make a game that totally relies on the accuracy of the touch screen? Why not make it more forgiving?

I really hate games when it makes me fail 4, 5, 6 or more times. I play games to have fun, so doing the same thing over and over again makes me just toss the game away - instead of motivating me more - i guess there are people out there who are motivated by frustration.

I was still hoping that the game would get better until I read the walkthroughs on the net. It sounds like after a while it gets totally ridiculous and you try to kill the viruses or whatever at every operation with different forms. i cannot think of anything more boring for this game. So yeah, now i have no desire to play the rest at all.

Wow.

I recommend getting this game used. Its really one of those games that you play once but never again.

The game design is quite unique but I found it almost impossible to get above a 'C' in the operations. The story is a bit too flat and predictable.

if you have a ds buy it

Trauma Center: Under the Knife was released fairly early in the lifespan of the Nintendo DS, and shows off how versatile the tiny console can be. Thrust into the role of Dr. Derek Stiles, you find yourself performing operations with your stylus as a healing tool, all while fighting the machinations of an organization that is bent on releasing a terrible new illness into the world.

The plot sounds over the top, and it is. Not only will you be performing surgeries, but there are some procedures where you'll need your "medical tools" to get through other scenarios - such as deactivating a bomb planted at a symposium. The stylus controls are excellent, giving you plenty of control with very few misfires. The soundtrack and dialogue during a procedure give a very ER-type of feel, and you'll be feeling the pressure in some of the tough operations.

The one problem area for the game is its difficulty. While it isn't impossible by any stretch of the imagination, you will find yourself doing certain procedures over and over again. The story, while solid, isn't as compelling as it could be, and suffers slightly from a large cast of characters who don't get much screen time. While the plot and cut scenes are still very enjoyable, a stronger story would help overcome some of the frustration at certain points, as it would provide some incentive beyond a mere score to pass each stage. As it is, some players might find themselves giving up on the game early if they become frustrated.

That said, there is enough story and characterization here to make for a very good time. Naturally, the meat of the game is the operations, and once you learn the basics you'll find that they're quite addictive and fun. And just in case you're hungry for even more challenge after the game is over, you can replay any procedure you've completed. Finishing the main game also unlocks several challenge levels, which will keep you up for days as you try to hone your stylus mojo into an effective life-saving machine. For those who can overcome the game's difficulty, Trauma Center: Under the Knife is a unique and compelling game.

Cures boredom...

This game came to my attention very late, since they now have newer story lines out regarding this game. Yet, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this game, so I decided to rent it from Gamefly before purchasing it from Amazon for $30 (plus Gamefly will let you keep the used rented copy for about $18 bucks if you like it that much). The game wasn't like anything I was expecting...well truly I didn't know what to expect.

However, the long winded background story line bored me. All I wanted was to operate. The operations are cool. You have to remember what to do or else the patient will basically die, but they lucky for you; you get to retry the operation. There is some skill involved as the clock and the patient's heart rate monitor bleep down.

I need to play the game some more before deciding to keep the game, but thus far it's something to do if you're really bored.
