RPG lovers, feast your eyes on this classic game!

Okay, that's it. I've come to find out through experience that I love RPG games and Squaresoft is the best video game company. I love Final Fantasy and Secret of Mana too! All of them and these games have touched me enough to interest me in becoming a game programmer with Squaresoft when I'm older. But that's just me, and enough about me. This Astounding RPG has music that will keep you humming it 3 years later after you've played the game and wanting to get the game back by finding it on the Internet at 11 PM in the night. This game takes you to a group of kids, perhaps teenagers that live in a small town. One of them is a geek genius. They visit a local town-square like place. All the little mini games and things you can find there are fun! The main character gets sucked into another time, because of a machine and these two pendants. It seems to be the same place when you get on to the world map, except not exactly modern style. There is a castle you can visit and it goes on from there. I haven't thoroughly played the whole game but I've gotten pretty far into the game and I don't want to spoil some of the events I've been through already. Unlike other games, RPGS have different walkthroughs and the way Squaresoft designs it, make you want to find every little potion and item in the game. There are so many different possibilities with RPGS, they are so complex. That's what I love about them and Chrono Trigger is only one of them. I truly and really hope you get this game even if you are not an RPG lover. There are funny parts, romantic, and sad parts. You actually get into the game, and feel the emotions the characters are going through. If you are not an RPG lover, you can at least see if you truly are and can become one by playing this game. It is like a movie before your eyes, except you can control and edit every shot and frame. I would love for you to tell me your ideas on RPGS and your thoughts. I love Final Fantasy ( ALL OF THEM ) as well. I really want to meet someone who loves RPGS as much as I do. BUY THIS GAME!!! I am not advertising. I just truly think this game will change the way you think about the world. The only bad thing about RPGS is that the first night you get it, you play it for a million hours and well, you're practically halfway through the game. And you don't want to do that. You should savor every bit of the game like a piece of candy. Chrono Trigger is a game that even if you finish playing it, you'll want to play it over, and over, and over, and over.....

Best RPG ever made.

The title says it all. This game shows everything that an RPG should be. Great plot, with all the events that make the story touching, without resorting to the contrived death of a character to do it (FF7). The characters are all good and likeable, unlike Cloud Strife and Squall Leonheart (I hate this "I don't care" attitude prevalent in Squaresoft's heroes lately). Also, some of these characters are VERY original, namely Frog, Robo, Ayla, and even Lucca. Even Magus gains your respect by the time all is said and done. There is excellent music, some of the best the Super Nintendo has ever seen. The graphics and such are wonderful for the SNES. The gameplay is fun and innovative, with features never seen before, or at least never executed this well:

--A battle system focusing on teamwork between characters, having them combine their techniques for awesome effects.

--Complete removal of all random battles.

--A plot that is just right: Linear enough to keep the story moving along nicely, yet with enough side quests and variations to create many multiple endings. Endings can be affected by everything from which side quests you chose to whether or not you went home and fed the cat.

--New game + option. You don't have to start all over from scratch to try out all the different endings.

There are many things besides these, entirely too many to list in a single review. This is by far the best RPG ever made, second to none.

THE BEST RPG- ..., THE BEST GAME!!!

The Best RPG Ever

SquareSoft's game ChronoTrigger is easily the best RPG ever made. If you have never played it, you're missing out on a great game, acclaimed as one of the best all time.

I was never much of an RPG fan, but when my friends introduced me to Crono, Marle, Lucca and Co., I was addicted. The ability to play the game however you wanted and not be stuck in one certain path really appealed to me. After beating it the first time, I was upset, because I thought I would be done playing. "But wait, there's more!" New Game + is the best feature I've ever seen, allowing you to start the game over with all of your HP and MP intact, and with the weapons and equipment that you've picked up throughout the game.

There are a multitude of side stories that you can take on, as well, which let you get to know your characters much better. Teaming up with Double and Triple Techs is amazing, and there really isn't a limit to what you can do.

After playing the game as often as I have, you start to wonder and think about the meaning that the game has, and yearning for a sequel! Thankfully Chrono Cross came out and filled that void.

Anyway, I would really encourage you to buy this game, whether on the original SNES or in FFC for PS1. You won't regret it! : )

Chrono Trigger IS, and Always will be, the BEST game ever!

I recomend this game to any one who loves rpg's with complex and exciting storylines. The charecter in this game are great. You never end up hating any of the charecter's (or there names) like you do in other rpgs. Has one of the best battle systems. One thing though.... NEVER GET THE SEQUAL (CHRONO CROSS) this game is a joke to the orginal game and is and embarising game to play for Chrono trigger fans

Best RPG I have ever played!!

Since I was very young, I played the first Final Fantasy for Nintendo. It was a bit corny at the time (since Super Nintendo was already released) but I enjoyed it a lot. I have played almost every Square RPG released. Even after all of them, including Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Trigger is still the greatest game I have ever played.
The main character in the game is YOU. YOU are Crono, many people thought he was mute, but in the game you talk for him. The depth of the ALL characters are amazing. The dialogue was superb.
I personally don't think any other game has a plot better than this one. Crono's death was far more moving that the death of Aeris in Final Fantasy 7 (although that part was pretty sad!). Bottom line, even by today's standards, the story is incredible.
Unlike many other RPG's, even the smallest action could lead to a different ending. Depending on what you choose to say or do, the outcome can be different. The ending for Chrono Trigger is the best game ending I have ever seen!! Not to mention there's over a dozen endings.
Another great feature, the fighting engine. It's not like the "random battle" fighting engine that always aggravated me Final Fantasy. You can actually see the enemy before the attack you. In some parts of the game, you can even do stealth kills (when Crono is put in jail, when the team is captured in the Airship in 12000 B.C.). Also, each character had their own specific abilities. It made them all unique, which was great. I much prefer this idea over the whole "materia" concept. And the team actually works as a TEAM!! There are magical AND physical skills than uses two or even three members of the team working together. If you have a game with a lot of characters fighting together, doesn't it make sense for them to work together?
This is the most under rated game ever made. It was quite popular in Japan, mainly because the creator of Dragon Ball Z (which was still hot at the time and not in North America yet) had a big part in the game. If you decide to play it now, the Playstation version is ok, since it has cool video made by the great Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball Z). The graphics are lousy, but way ahead of it's time considering the age of this game.
Too bad Square Enix, or whatever the hell they're called now, has no plans to do anything with this franchise. Seems all they can do is ruin them. This game was royally screwed over with its less than worthy sequel Chrono Cross, which I never intend to play. I tried once, once is enough.

I know most people first RPG experience from Squaresoft was probably Final Fantasy 7. Compared to Chrono Trigger, FF7 is weak, VERY weak. Final Fantasy 6 was the greatest of the series, period. And Chrono Trigger was the greatest game ever made!

The Diamond of All RPGs!!

Chrono Trigger is, without a doubt, the second best RPG ever released on the Super Nintendo (Second only to Final Fantasy IV) and quite possibly, one of the best ever made. It is so far above and beyond the norm that to dislike this game would indicate that you have some kind of mental problem.

I will not bother with a plot synopsis since I am sure most of the other reviewers have written one already. There are several things unique about this game that make it outstanding. First of all, this story centers around time travel, which is very unique for an RPG. You can travel to the distant future, or you can travel back as far as 65 million BC to the stone age. Time travel is the heart of the story and is executed incredibly well. It also allows you to meet new characters (Ayla, Frog and Robo) and visit places that existed in the past and the future but not in the present.

Another aspect that Square added to this game is the Tech skill. This feature is fantastic! Each character is able to learn special techniques that he or she can use in battle. Some are physical attacks, others are magic attacks. But the special quality here is that you can use those special abilities in combination with one or two other characters. When used with 1 other character it is called a Double Tech. With 2 other characters it is a Triple Tech. The triple tech's are very powerful, but can only be used if Crono is in the party.

The music in Chrono Trigger is excellent, original and very memorable. This soundtrack is simply superb! For me personally, this soundtrack is second only to the magnificent soundtrack of Final Fantasy IV by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu (Who actually oversaw the composition and execution of Chrono Trigger's songs). The other sounds in the game were great and realistic. The graphics were beautiful. And unlike other RPG's the characters are all full-sized instead of sprite-sized. You can actually make out the characters' faces and clothes in this game.

The characters are unique and fully developed, with no annoying cliches (Except maybe Marle, the princess) or personalities. Each one is distinct and has his or her own role in the story. The development of each character is very well done. You will not be left wondering about anyone's past or anything like that. It is all incredibly well thought out and executed.

I can't say enough about Chrono Trigger. I first played it almost 10 years ago on the SNES, and now I have it on Playstation (Part of a collection released as Final Fantasy Chronicles along with another classic game, my favourite, Final Fantasy IV). This game is gaming at it's best! If it has any flaws, I can't think of any right now. It is challenging, interesting and visually superb. If you have never played this game before, you are really missing out on something special. And for those of you who own this game already, don't be stupid and sell it. This is one of the best games ever made on any platform, and in any genre. My advice: Hang on to this title and treasure it, because there may not be another like it for a long, long time.

This is perhaps the greatest game ever made. My middle school career was probably highlighted by this game, and even now it retains replayability. Not necessarily the deepest or most difficult rpg, but surely one of the most innovative and compelling. The combat system is simplistic and perfect, and the storyline is A+. Now you can play it through emulators as well as a Playstation version which was recently released on greatest hits. Everyone can enjoy! Play right now, what are you waiting for? Simply the best.

Can anybody say, "Masterpiece"?

Chrono Trigger was released in 1995 for the SNES, later to be remade for the Playstation.

Graphics: 10/10: Very ahead of it's time. CT's graphics were beautiful, from the colorful 2D textures, to the forests, the graphics were topnotch.

Music:11/10: It's that good! The music was beautiful, from the great battle themes, to the sad music, there is not one bad tune in here.

Sound: 10/10: It sounds great for a 1995 game.

Gameplay:10/10: CT is an RPG. However, there are things that are special about this game. For one thing the battle system is unique. You can use moves that combine different characters. It's a bit hard to explain.

Another thing that makes this game unique is the fact that you can time travel. You can alter the past, and have fun. Plus, more eras mean more sidequests.

The story, I belive, is solid. It isn't the best RPG story ever, but it is easy to understand and very entertaining.

Replay value: 10/10: Most RPG's don't really have a replay value, but this does. Once you beat the game, you can do a New Game+, which allows you to start the game over with everything you had on the first game. Plus, there are many, [and I mean MANY!] endings to unlock.

Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece simple as that. If you have an SNES, get this. If you don't, get the PS version.

I haven't seen a better RPG story since...

This was my first RPG and to this day it remains my favorite RPG. By today's standereds in new updated graphics and more open gameplay oppertunities, it might be a little out of place because of it's age, but don't let any of that fool you. This game was a masterpeice for it's time with many revolutionary ideas that, to this day, have not been able to have been outdone to this day.
I've played videogames all my life. The RPG genre is still my favorite and I've played more of these games then many people have. Still, I am surprized by the fact that, when dealing with characters and inspiring story, everything else hasn't come close to the brillence placed in Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy 7 is the only other RPG that I can say came close.
The summery of this game is this: Three farly normal teenagers living in a peaceful age of invention, get thrown by sheer bad luck (and a faulty machine at a fair) back in time. At first, the immediate goal is just to meet up and go back to their own time, but after a number of hilarious and unfortunate events, they find out that (after another set of events) that the future of their planet is doomed. Being rebelious teens, the three attempt to find and prevent events that lead up to the world's eventual distruction. However the more they learn, the more trouble they get into. They are aided later on by some past and future heros with equally bad luck, but just the same, it's mostly about an adventure through time by a small group of highly unlikely heroes who generally don't have a clue as to what they are getting into.
As for gameplay, being a beging step in the evolution leading to the super RPGs of today, it's nothing too unique. You buy stronger weapons and armor and each character has magic (techs)specializing in one elemental. However, the real kick is in however the characters can tag team on special techs. There are three characters in a party at a time (for a good reason) and if a group of characters fight together longer they can eventually pull off some REALLY sweet (and in some cases funny) looking double techs or even triple techs. Why the RPGs of today don't try to mimic the brillence of the triple tech idea today, I don't know. It worked wonders for Chrono Trigger.
