BORING

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 5 / 8

This game is too linear and there are no options to explore. You have to follow the path that the game allows you to take with all the creativity and problem solving removed from the game play. I definitely do not recommend this game.

Decent game, definately worth the $10-$15 range but theres so many flaws ...

I played this game all in one night just to beat it because I didnt want to play it. Here are my negative experiences followed by the positive ...

- the setting graphics are way too dark. In a cave or in the jungle, when it rains and its cloudy, its just too dark for my liking. What really gave it a negative on the graphics was when King Kong is seen for the first time. That moment when he is coming from the deep jungle to take Anne ... I was exhilirated to see what this scene will look like ... it was terrible! I was hoping to get a little scare out of it or some dazzle at this remarkable beast. But no, he started off as a black fuzzy picture and when he came into being, the graphics being dark as well made him look like a mess. It looked like somebody scribbled mascara on the screen.

- I had to start the game over from the beginning on TWO occassions. Its bad enough when its one, but this was TWO. The first time is when I saved it on a level and played it the next day, one of the characters wouldnt move. I was suppose to follow him to a door so he can help open it cause you needed 2 people to open it. So I tried restarting the level, it wouldnt let me it just put me where I saved it and I tried playing the level before and continuing but after I beat that level and came to this level, still the same. So I had to start all the way at the beginning again. I wasnt too far into the game though. Well on the second occassion I got twice as far. I didnt manually save it, I figured it would have been auto-saved to that level but THERE IS NO AUTO-SAVE! So Im like omg, what happened to my game? So now im just like, I want to finish this game and never play it again. Which brings me to my next negative ...

- I beat this game in one night! It took about 5 hours. I had just got done beating Tomb Raider and Halo 2. Halo 2 took the longest time I loved that so much. Great game. But wow it turns out this game plays for 5 hours and has no replay value whatsoever. My next negative ...

- all the characters say the same thing when you click on them, its so dumb. All you will hear Jack Driscoll ask Carl is "Hey Carl you hanging in there". It would be nice if Carl told me where I had to go cause sometimes I didnt know what to do, or if he could give me a clue. But nothing, why even have that feature if you cant communicate?

- the "puzzles" are really easy. I wouldnt even call them puzzles. Honestly, it doesnt even have puzzles. Tomb Raider: Legends, THAT had lots of puzzles, that was an awesome game. I loved Halo 2 to death and when I played Tomb Raider, I liked Tomb Raider more than Halo because of the puzzles and because shes so hot and serene. I loved that game. And thats where we really stand between ratings. I dont see how someone can give this game 4 stars. When theres Halo and Tomb Raider. Halo is 5 star FPS and Tomb Raider is 5 star Puzzle. I would rate Call of Duty 4 star FPS but King Kong comes far short of those games. But this game is $15 so why not have it in your collection. One more negative ...

- the entire game revolves around this ... kill the monsters, find fire and a door lever. THATS IT! Honest to god, thats all youre doing on every level the ENTIRE game is finding fire to burn the bushes and a door lever to open a door. Now you can see why I wanted to beat this game to get it over with! And is why I gave this game 2 stars overall. But it got 3 stars for fun because of some positives ...

+ youre treking through a jungle and caves with dinosaurs and big creatures. It was a pretty adventurous setting I felt.

+ I like the spears and bones as weapons. Being able to throw spears at a creature then being able to take that spear and use it again is cool. After a couple times though, the spear will break. I liked throwing my spears at creatures rather than using a gun. It makes it more challenging. If you run out of ammo in your gun though, it sucks lol. But that makes it challenging too is using the spears and bones you find along the way as your only weapon until you find a crate with a gun in it.
+ you play as Kong (who needs no gun or spears =)

Overall, $15 for this game definately and I recommend buying it. You can live without it though. Soon you'll beat it and probly not play it again cause all you do is search for fire and a door lever. Even though I gave it a 2 star review, it deserves 2.5 just cause its King Kong. There should have been more imagination behind it though. This game could have been more elaborous.

This game was very fun, that is, while it lasted. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is solid. You get to play the game as Jack and (just a little) bit as King Kong. You get to use a variety of weapons (sniper rifle, pistols, bones, spears, etc) which was pretty cool. In the end though, this game is way too short and(...)is just too much for this game.

Good graphics? I think not.

I judge a game's graphics beginning with how well the character's mouth moves to the dialog/words. That tells me if the designer really cared. The characters in King Kong have mouths that just open and close like they are saying "ma ma ma ma" over and over while the dialog is happening. It actually looks ridiculous. Not only that but even in the first scene in the boat, if you look to the side you will see the oars never even touch the water, create a ripple, NOTHING. One even goes right through a huge rock.

This is the first game I put in to show off my 360 to other people and they laughed at how pathetic it looked, after I had hyped what I had heard about this game's "great" graphics.

And the first action scene? Shooting at crabs with a pistol? What am I, 6 years old?

Big thumbs down.

King of the Jungle...but not of the game

King Kong game wasn't really a great game or a terrible one, hence the 3 star rating. The most impressive aspect of this game was how gorgeous gaming enviroment was. The rocks and grass were almost touchable through the tv screen! The only draw back about the graphics were how the actual humans were rendered. They were not was "realistic" as the enviroment that the game was.

Comparing human graphics between two games, the humans in Condemned: Criminal Origins were more realistic, smoother, and less choppy. The game play wasn't too bad, and the game wasn't that hard to complete. Sometimes, things would get a bit repetitive but that's how the game goes. Playing the game in 5.1 surround sound is a plus, you can hear the rain from all directions and when a character talks to you'll hear their voice coming out from a particular speaker from their direction.

Overall, the game is not worth the high price of $59.99. However, if you're bored it is a game to take a shot at renting for a couple days or so. Long lives the king....

Decent game, but it gets old quickly

I will be honest, I was not a huge fan of the movie and wasn't initially interested in this game. I purchased it recently because I had read that it was an easy way to get 1000 achievement points (just play it all the way through), and because it had considerably dropped in price to less than $20.

So, with low expectations, I have to say that I was initially pleasantly surprised. After some clips from the opening of the movie, the game starts off with you playing through the scene of them landing on Skull Island. The voice acting is great, as I keep hearing Jack Black making all his silly comments about capturing footage of everything as we move through the island. The graphics are good, as the character models look very much like their real-life counterparts and the island is rendered in pretty full detail. However, I would not put these graphics anywhere near Gears or some of the newer 360 games, but they are decent enough to hold your interest in the game. The game mechanics are pretty easy to pick up, you either have a gun or you can pick up a spear. Soon you learn to catch the spear on fire and use it to burn patches of thicket in order to clear the way or fend off creatures. There are also some other puzzle-like aspects, such as stabbing bait and throwing it to distract creatures, or needing to find the handles for opening doors.

From there, though, I found the game getting rather repetitive and old quickly. You run through a series of areas fighting and evading various creatures and finding a way out, only to get to more areas where you have to fight and evade creatures.

Finally, after what seemed like an exhaustive amount of play, I got to a stage where I was able to play as Kong. I felt the Kong sequence seemed like it had been tacked on as a gimmick rather than an integral part of the game. First of all, it switches to third-person while you're Kong, so the gameplay is totally different. Secondly, it just took me through a series of climbing, jumping, and swinging sequences, which were all accomplished by pressing 1 button to do everything, so it felt more like a glorified cutscene than actual gameplay. Lastly, I had to fight a flying boss, but due to the third person camera angle I could never face the right direction or time it right to punch him each time he swooped in at me. After multiple attempts I finally beat the boss, but ended up feeling more frustrated than thrilled by it.

The next level has me playing as Jack again, and I frankly haven't summoned up the motivation to play any further yet. I understand there are more Kong scenes coming up where you fight dinosaurs, so that might be fun, but the idea of having to play through another couple of hours as Jack doesn't seem worth it to me.

I recently acquired a few other new games for my 360, and I just find it hard to want to go back to this one to finish it. Perhaps there will be some time when I'll decide to finish this game, but for now I have shelved it and don't have a strong desire to keep playing.

All in all, I would say this game is decent for the price and can provide a couple of hours of entertainment, but don't expect to get hooked on it because you will likely lose interest fairly quickly.

This game let me down prety bad , i didnt expect it to be nearly as good as call o duty 2 which is an amazing game and lived up to all the hype, but this game did look realy good and the grahpics looked amazing and they are , and thats about wher it ends nothing else impressed me with simple shooting and puzzles so simple any 4 year old could figure them out. I jus didnt have any fun with this game besides the grahpics looking amazing there isnt anything else to see , you just fight the same dum ass looking enemies including big spiders ,crabs and scorpions that all look quarny as hell . And thats about it you dont even get 2 use kong much its prety much all fps and shooting the same old enemies and only bein able 2 hold one gun at a time with little amo. Yep this game jus isnt fun its prety lame and DEFINATLY not worth 60$. My opinion rent it or wait til its cheaper.

O.K. game

The first thing that you will notice is that the graphics and sound are amazing. The next thing you will notice is the game play is slow at least to my preferences. Now the game is better than the movie the movie looked great it just was too corny. Man was it corny I fell asleep. The game provided some mild entertainment but not enough for the hard core gamer. I suggest renting or a purchase for a child under 16.

Great game really fun...way too many flaws!

This has got too be one of the funnest games made for 360. In my opinion, it would be in the top 10, but there are so many flaws. For example, you have to turn your 360 off and then back on every once in a while, because the AI wont interact with you properly. It gets sooooo annoying! But anyway, I would reccomend it! Maybe they will come out with a patch soon...

If I were simply rating this as the quickest way to get 1000 gamer points (just finish the game) it would be a 5 star review. However that's about all King Kong is good for.

Pros:
-Great voice acting: if you're a fan of Jack Black you will enjoy his comments throughout
-New take on shooters: rather than a display showing how much ammo you have left you click B and your character says how many clips you have left. (You can also go into options to have your remaining ammo displayed)
-Also when you run out of ammo there are plenty of spears to throw at enemies
-Great graphics: Obviously the graphics are now eclipsed by this year's giants, but they are much better than old Xbox games.
-Taking on T-Rexes and V-Rexes as King Kong is a blast!

Cons:
-Very short: you can beat it in one weekend.
-Puzzles are too easy: for every puzzle you light a stick on fire and burn thorn bushes, the only hard part, sometimes, is finding the fire
-Too dark: There are many places where you can't figure out where you're going because you can't see.
-Very linear: The whole time you're in a corridor and all you do is move forward.

I can only recommend this game if you're either a huge Jack Black and King Kong fan or if you want a quick 1000 gamer points. If you're a fan then you've already got this game. If you want easy points you can't beat that price!
