This is one of the best games i have ever played. Even though i do not have a best game ever instead i have multiple best games ever. This is definitely up there. First off the sound track is excellent and very memorable. Some people complain about the battle system but i loved it. The story is very unique and to this day no one has ever reused it. The characters are unique and interesting. This game has some funny enemies like piles of throw up, crazed seniors, and Mr. T. Okay i was kidding about Mr.T but he does make an appearance because this game takes place in modern times. Also there are no random encounters like a lot of RPG's. This game is definitely not too short and is pretty lengthy. It is also realistic like when you are in the desert you need to a towel so you wont die of heat. This is my favorite game on Super Nintendo and it may be old but it sure is better than today's games.

This game is by far one of my top 5 favorites for the SNES.
Earthbound is this massive RPG that is set aside from the rest. Instead of your classic Final Fantasy where you're a group of people using blades, bows, airships, and magic to defend the world from a nemisis you usually meet half-way through the game, Earthbound is a story of 4 teenage kids from around the globe who band together to use their bats, frying pans, bottle rockets, and psychic powers to whoop the trash out of their enemies.
You play as Ness a teenager from Eagleland in the year 199x and lucky you a meteor crashed into your backyard. As you travel with your best friend to find his brother who is lying asleep at the crash site you discover this is no ordinary meteor! You walk past the meteor in your trek home when your friend begins hearing a buzzing sound coming from the meteor. :WHOOM: a beam of light erupts from the meteor and a small bumble bee ascends out of the light. "Buzz Buzz, I am a bee.... not" are his first words, he is Buzz Buzz and he has come from the future as a prophet to tell Ness that he has been chosen to save the universe from a omnipotent cosmic being named Giygas. He tells you, that you will be traveling the world with 3 other companions to channel your power for the upcoming fight with Giygas.
This is the plot in a nutshell, you will travel across the world fighting outrageous enemies, going on tour with blues musicians, withdrawing cash from your ever-expanding ATM account, and spacing out on magic cake.
What makes the game so cool is that it takes the RPG genre and some of the culture of the 90's and just makes fun of it. Talk to all the NPC's cause they will help you and sure as hell make you laugh.
BUY THIS GAME!! If you are a true RPG geek like I am you will fall in love with it.
This game is sooooo Great!

I've been an avid gamer since I was a very small child (4 to be exact when I first got my hands on an NES in 1988) and RPG's have been my genre since then. I have played and beaten countless RPG's on all different kinds of consoles since then... excluding all those I have played on PC and Mac, and for some reason even among world reowned classics such as FFVII and Chrono Trigger this game has stood profoundly out in my mind. Filled with compelling and mentally stimulating gameplay, if you're a true RPG fan, this is not a title you will soon forget. However, if old-skool RPG gaming to you is the that time last year when you beat FFVIII... forget it.

As the world of console gaming continues to expand and make the Super NES more and more obsolete, one mainstay of this antiquated system still rules over all games made to this date: Earthbound. It grips you throughout the entire experience up until the end, and it's almost depressing when it's over...almost. From the engrossing story, to the great gameplay, to the great characters, this game is CLASSIC. If you're interested in one of the greatest games ever made for any system, then don't let this one slip through your fingers.
The Game Behind The Cult

Earthbound for the Super Nintendo may very well epitomize the term "cult classic" more than any other game ever made. It fits all the criteria: Oddball game design that most mainstream gamers will find too strange for their liking, lacking sales and critical disapproval at the time of it's release, a small-but-devoted following, hefty price tag, constant rumors about incredibly rare beta versions, sequels, etc., and most importantly, a really interesting game underneath.
Earthbound is a traditional 16-bit RPG dragged through an insane LSD and pop culture gutter. The swords and staves are replaced with frying pans and yo-yo's. The fantasy worlds of Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger are replaced with a modern-day world with a zany sense of humor. You fight against hippies, businessman, ants, mushrooms, and abstract art. You order "zombie paper" from a pizzeria to save a zombie infested town. And you recieve your opening mission statement from a...bee. Not only do these ideas keep the game fresh, they also are used to satirize many of the more overly serious aspects of RPGs.
The battle system is pretty basic, but it works well, with character-unique abilities, PSI powers, and a "roll-back" H.P. system that rewards players with fast fingers. The lack of random battles is also a welcome surprise. Be warned, though: the game is unusually tough, and is very unforgiving towards unprepared or impatient players. With a little practice, however, you'll be able to tackle the more threatening battles without getting too banged up.
There are a few flaws: Mainly, the items don't stack, meaning you're oftentimes running out of room to place things. Also, the diffuclty could be adjusted so that the normal enemies are easier and the bosses are harder, but it's not too much of a problem.
Anyone who is tired of "normal" video games should check this one out, but be prepared to search abit, or pay upwards of $75.
Tight game!

Nowadays when we hear of an RPG (Role Playing Games) we think of pokémon. One of the biggest RPG's that came out. Yea sure, we played this lil wonder and liked it, but do you really think that sending little monsters out to fight is as interesting as doing the job yourself? Before the poké time there was Earthbound. Think of it this way.
You're a normal teen living in Eagletown... Onett to be exact. And then a meteor crashes close to your home and upon finidng it you find that you have been chosen to save the world from something evil and powerful. Armed with a baseball bat and psychic powers you're off to the rescue (later on along with some friends).
One of the things that makes this game good is the naming. You could name your characters and your friends after people you know, making the game's impact more powerful. The length of the game is something else. It took me about a month to get through the whole game, and when you finish you look back at all you did and are really moved.
Then there are the enemies. Boy, these guys will make you laugh. Everything from runaway dogs to loaded dice (personal favorite) is in the game. You beat them in standard RPG stype but can do many things like psi powers, bash, use items.
The game has many twists and turns and is very unpredictable. One moment you are in one city the next you find you need to travel back to another, then back again. The difference in areas are also noted. The following are a short list of places you travel to:
Onett: hometown
Twoson: second city
Threed: Third city
Fourside: Biggest city and forth one too
Scaraba: Dessert
Dusty Dunes: Dessert
Winters: Ice
Summers: Vacation Beach Resort.
You can do a lot of exploring in this game, and it makes you feel that you actually exist in this game. Certain scenes move your emotions to the point that it means something to you. I mean seriously, how many games have you played and took the moral and message seriously and thought about it for a while. Earthbound does this.
Well there isnt much more to say. This is deffinetly a collecter's item and a great game to play. Although it is for the SNES, it certainly beats modern games. As for Earthbound64? To put it in a better way, when it got canceled, over 1 million people petitioned against it since they really liked the original game. After playing it, you will probably want to join their cause.
