Lack of time prevents me from writing out a proper review of this game, which I LOVE.
I am however reviewing the price - who in their right mind would pay $60 for this game when it's readily available for much MUCH less??

A Musical Adventure

Rhapsody is quite a different game. Published by Atlus and developed by Nippon Ichi Software (who would later go on to develop the cult classic Disgaea), Rhapsody is a unique gaming experience, but it really just doesn't last that long and despite being quite original it doesn't exactly make RPGers work and strive the way they're used to.

The story in Rhapsody is different. The story is about Cornet who dreams of one day marrying a dashing Prince. She's constantly having dreams of this man saving her. What she doesn't realize is that she'll be the one saving the day when she's whisked on an adventure. The storyline isn't really original, but the characters are charming in their own way. However, the biggest appeal of the game is the simple fact that the characters sing. When they say "A Musical Adventure" this is no joke. It's really a musical adventure and the characters will actually sing. As is the case with many games featuring voice actors in the Playstation One era, the voice acting and singing isn't great. The lyrics are good, but the English voice work isn't too great. Luckily, the game let's you listen to the music in Japanese with English subtitles.

Gameplay is as simple as ever. While you can go around exploring dungeons in a typical RPG fashion, the battle system is very much a Tactical RPG. At its core, Rhapsody is a tactical RPG. And it plays in the same basic fashion. You'll move your characters a certain number of spaces and have them execute attacks. It's all fairly simple stuff. It doesn't do much to separate from the pack, but that isn't the problem with Rhapsody. The biggest problem is that the game is far easier than it should be. It's a great game, a marvelous masterpiece in many ways, but it is most certainly not going to challenge any gamer any time soon. It's easy to grasp but it's also easy to master. Ease can usually be overlooked. In Rhapsody, however, the ease of the game can easily be a shortcoming. There's no balance. It all works so that you can get through even battles that were clearly designed to be tougher. But the ease of the game isn't the biggest problem either. The biggest problem is that the game is incredibly short and there isn't much of anything you can do off the beaten path. The musical aspect, and large soundtrack might make it worthwhile, but the game also doesn't exactly have much replay going for it.

Graphically Rhapsody doesn't take advantage of the Playstation by any means. It uses sprites and pre-rendered backgrounds. Very little, if any, of the game is rendered in 3D. Despite that, however, it's an incredibly beautiful game. The sprites are detailed and the backgrounds are astounding. Rhapsody is a very artistic looking game and you will be immersed in its world because of its cute sprites, fantastic backgrounds and great character portraits. It also runs fairly smoothly and keeps load times to a minimal.

When it comes to music, few RPGs have a better soundtrack than Rhapsody. It's expected being that the game has a huge focus on music. There are over twenty songs, but the standalone score is also a brilliant addition to the game. The music is almost as beautiful as the game itself. As noted, the voice work isn't the greatest, but being that you can change them to Japanese, it's really not so bad.

Rhapsody is most certainly a different game (I think enough reviews have touched on the pancake). It's a musical, but a beautiful musical. Its story isn't great but it does manage to have charming characters and a good soundtrack. If Rhapsody were a little longer and a little harder would be perfect. However, it is a classic that most RPGers have unfortunately overlooked. If you haven't gotten a chance to play Rhapsody, it's coming soon enough. The game will be out on the Nintendo DS very soon, giving everyone who missed it a chance to enjoy it.

can you destroy your enemies with pancakes?

My cousin and me found this game at Game Stop for about $40.00, and since it was an Atlus game by Nippon Ichi we decide to purchase it. my cousin finished the game first and he liked it,and I decided to try it. i was dissapointed. The gameplay was horrible! No matter what the game difficulty is the game is too easy! How easy? So easy that you can kill the boss in a couple of turns. Also, what I want to know is why have do the battles have to be like the tactic games? I'm talking about moving on panels and stuff, especially in this game when you don't have to move that much at all. exploring dungeons are very tiresome. the story is ok since it is about a girl saving a guy istead of the other way around, artwork is good too, but htis game will never be on the same level as disgaea, phantom brave, makai kingdom, and la pucelle tactics. I you're into tactics games and haven't tried any of those 4 If recommend you try them since they're way better than this game.

Pancake attack?

That was my first thought when I was looking the back of the jewel case when deciding if I wanted to puchase this game. If I remember right, it was the pancake attack and the case art that made me want to buy the game--and I was NOT dissappointed one bit.

The upside?
-Decent graphics
-Good storyline
-Comical characters
-Your choice of playable characters

The downside?
-English singers sound squeeky (listen to the japanese singing, it's better)

I loved it.

Well I played this game a long time ago. I thought it was pretty cute. ^^ The romance was adorable.
Especially when you start out as Cornet, a young girl whose mother had died when she was a toddler. And her fairy like friend, Kururu. She falls in love with the prince, then he gets kidnapped by the evil witch Marjoly and her evil Lackies.

And its a musical type of thing. A game recommended for all you people who love cute theme romance games ^^

Worst Game Ever (BUY IT!)

This game is awesome in it's terribleness. It's so bad it's good. You will put friends in front of this game, innocent friends, and watch as the squirm in misery! You will be MST3K'ing this game from the first note until the final rapturous epilogue! The plot makes no sense, the battle system in insane, and the songs are the corniest, most bubble-gum filled psychosis you've ever heard.

You have not lived until you have played this game.

I think the game has cute characters and a good story line, but it was super easy to beat. It was almost too easy. The songs are okay, but they could have done better. I really only like this game because of the story line. It has nice anime-style art though.

Buy this game!

I currently own this game, and even though I have a PSP, PS2, and a Gamecube, this is still one of the very best games ever. My cousin got a ps1 a while back, and we got ours around the same time. He was telling me about this game, Rhapsody, that it got great reviews and it was supposed to be really fun. So, my cousin and I went out and bought it. We owned a lot of strategy-rpg-type games at that time, but this one really stood out. Through the game, you get many different characters to fight with, including some weird ones...like for instance, egg brothers. But still this game is sooo fun, you will love it. The prices are high since it is a rare (and fun) game, but you will not be disapointed. Happy game playing

My Review On Rhapsody

I thought that Rhapsody was one of, no wait, my favorite game in the world but i can't get it because i live in Canada and they only ship within the U.S. right now. Other than that, it constantly kept me interested in it and I hope that it would come back on the market so that i could buy it. LOL. I loved all of the pictures and graphics, no matter what some old guy says, i thought that they were good. The main reason that I like it is because of the story that goes along with it, i find it so romantic.
