Dissapointing...

I haven't actually played this game yet, but judging by the demo, screen shots, and other reviews, this game is definatly the weak link of the series. The rest of the series (Earth 2140, Earth 2150, The Moon Project, Earth 2150: Lost Souls) is actually really good. I highly recommend picking up a copy of -The Earth 2150 Trilogy-. The games are really fun and all have won numerous Game of the Year awards.

I have enjoyed this game because it allows you to build different structures and different vehichles. I bought Earth 2150 and found the graphics to be so poor I quickly lost interest. I am anxious to see if Earth 2170 comes along...

Nice additions, small annoyances

Earth 2160 picks up shortly after Earth 2150. Humanity has been evacuated to Mars with the Earth no longer being inhabitable. The game has excellent graphics for the buildings, vehicles and landscape. People are done well but facial expressions leave something to be desired. Unlike the other Earth games, 2160 has voice actors and animated mission briefings. The voice actors are a very welcome addition. The interface looks pretty, though I miss the different tactics you could use for units in the other games. Also it can be difficult to manage large selections of units. Four different factions have 7 missions each. More missions would have been nice but the existing ones tell the story well enough. Three factions play similarly, but the fourth is very different and refreshing. I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it as a solid game with some nice additions.

Good game

Fun game, beautiful graphics, customized units, and a good addition to the Earth series. If you can get past the annoying voice overs, and a not-to-fun campaign(just play skirmish mode), its a great game.

Dude this game is a bit of a dud. If you want a great game go with some of the older versions but I highly recomend the inspration of these games which is warzone 2100.

Very Bad Game - Stay Away From It - Waste of Time and Money

This is a very bad desined game.
Units not reacting to commands.
Units taking fire and not returning fire.
Production of units is too slow.
Resource gathering is too slow.
Units sometimes don't get created for no reason, they just sit in the queue, stuck in there.
AI on easy is too hard to beat, even with cheat codes.

The game may look nice but it is unplayable.

Save your money for another game.
Rise of Legends is one of the best RTS game around, try it instead.

I really have to speak up about this great game. It's true the learning curve is a bit steep for some people, but the gameplay and graphics are both simply amazing. When the game was first released, there were several balancing issues regarding especially the Alien race; while I can't really say this shouldn't have been caught in playtesting, I would like to point out that the race is extremely unusual, being essentially a buildingless faction. As a result of the imbalances, a number of user-created mods were released; however, the most popular and effective elements of the mods were collected into an official and more-or-less accepted patch.

As mentioned above, this game is very hard to learn, but well worth it. To compare it to other popular games, I would say it's somewhere between Alpha Centauri (in gameplay; only realtime) and Starcraft (mostly in theme and style). If all you want is another 'Craft clone or a C&C knockoff, however, you would be well advised to stay away -- this game will overwhelm you.

Not bad if you like this sort of thing...

I would describe this game as stable, oldschool coding in a world of advanced graphic games. It reminds me of a Sierra game in this respect. Some people had problems with it, but I've played the campaigns twice on two different comps with no bugs. There is a patch you get a link to by email when you register the game, but it is only to improve the functionality of the skirmish and online gameplay features, and doesn't affect the campaign in any way. I can't seem to win if I don't play on the difficulty setting Easy, however. I wanted to play a space game and this scratched the itch. There are four campaigns, each with about 8 missions, and some rather long movies between them to carry the plot along. The movies could've been better: it's not the graphics, but the sense that the voice scripts were not read in the same room by the readers, and cut/edited together to give a feel of synchronicity.

The gameplay is, well, hard. There are so many commands it takes a while to understand what to do to give that competitive edge. Every attempt is made by the game designers to alleviate some of this - fully customizable commands, etc; but the system defaults for keyboard/mouse control are as good as any... For example, it took me a long time to figure out how to attack with the Lunar Corporation "Ripper" ship. After playing it a while, though, it gets really fun. A Save Replay function stores a set portion of the game as a file so you can review your tactics later, or just watch how you annihilated the enemy. It is like Starcraft with a lot of additions, including customizable ships and a "hero" who can collect special tools to help them (armor and weapons). The campaign is like a cross between Aliens (the movie) and Stargate. I would say it's worth the $20 I paid for it, and I am satisfied.

Not the worst, could have been the best.

It has a fun campaign, the graphics are really amazing. Skimish gets boring quick. Online play, leaves alot to be desired. YOu wont be able to play unless you have the same version as other people, and thier are many version floating around, and nobody seems to be using the version supported by the developers. I would not recommend buying this game if you are into online play. Otherwise, a good game
