Played better

Plays like the console port that it is. Turning around, even with the mouse sensitivity maxed is sluggish at best, very detrimental during battle or even rounding corners. The "Focus Flash" turns what could have been a cool effect into a seizure session. Better control of the camera angles would have been helpful, as would have being able to choose where (in the game AND in memory) to save. The Hacking is a nice idea and well done but I found the gameplay to be annoying and monotonous. The storyline nicely compliments the movie but overall I found "Enter the Matrix" highly disappointing.

good game, good end movie, little dissapointment

i had very high hopes for this game to begin with. the graphics on the in game movies were a little disipoiting. there is no cross hairs in the whole game unless you are fireing from a car or zoomed in. however that is not a big deal when you are in focus mode because since you are in focus it should go right to the guy. when out of focus it does not go directly to the guy but wont altogether miss every round.

i did think that the makers had the computer as an after-thought because the game does not take full advantage with the mouse, but they can fix that with a patch.

i will add that i hate the zoom in job that he makers did. it is horrible. even with the sniper rifle it is bad. that is probably the worst feature in the game.

the best feature of the game, by far, are the real movies. they are really good. they explain the movie better. and by far the end movie is the best i have seen in any computer game. it would be worth buying the game just to see that movie.

so buy the game and enjoy!

The ONLY reason this gets two stars is because it is a cool idea to reveal extra story via an interactive video game (even if it is just to extend the marketing arm of the movie). However, the graphics are terrible and the controls are more than terrible. You spend most of your time being shot by people you can't even see because the camera is pointing the wrong direction. And there is no aiming reticle in 3rd person. In other words, you just shoot a lot and hit something about every 10th shot or so. In scenes with cars the wheels are SQUARE (and I'm running a VERY top of the line system)! That should give you some idea of how disappointing this is. I'll play through it just to get the extra story, but I'll be a very happy person once this failure is off my computer.

this game had soooo much potential...

Not to say that some of it isn't fun. The kung fu moves are the most fluid and realistic i have ever seen. But all i do is button smashing. I really haven't learned how to compine buttons together to make awesome combos that i planned out. And to sit down and try to figure out how to do just this doesn't really work out either. The focus thing is overrated, helps alot when firing a gun...but their are hardly any special fighting moves that you get with using it. (only like jumping off wall and kicking someone). I like the way the agents were designed. They block moves in a realistic fasion. rent before buying. Its better to get in on consol, even if graphics are better for pc since the game is for hitting buttons. Not much sniper work involed. The driving parts of the game is soo [messed] up. Its so stupid, all of the cars are bouncing around like pimp mobiles. anyway, its fun for what it is.

Enter the Matrix - brilliant but unforgivably flawed

I excidedly opened my package containing the matrix reloaded on May 14th (sent 1 day early by my local supplier), and merrily installed it. i was surprised by thr 4.3 gig (yes you heard me) minimum install, but soon got sucked in. the 3rd person combat is just, in one word awesome. when with just a few button presses you can have your character grab an enemys gun, throw him over your shoulder, turn around and shoot him mid air is just astonishingly cool. the "focus" system works very much like the bullet time system in max payne, but also allows your chacater to do a whole new set of moves, as well as slowing time down. overall the 3rd person combat (and thats all it is folks, no puzzle solving just combat after combat after combat) is just fantastic, and more than worthy of a purchase. however, the driving sections (which are interspersed with the 3rd person action) are terrible. really terrible. really really terrible. as gunner (you can choose between 2 characters, one who drives, the other shoots) the car drives with all the skill of an 8 year old on tranquilizers. Enemy cars are indestructable for no given reason and the whole driving section seems rushed and messy. Another niggle is the sound. 2 in-game engine cut scenes have no sound at all, and there are massive sound errors on both the freeway level (where all sounds are blocked out by constant "wind noise" so loud you have to mute your speakers) and the later nuclear power station level (where the echos of footsteps and gunshots again, drown out all sound and are DEAFENINGLY loud, again to the point of having to mute your speakers. this games sound is so bugged it needs an exterminator. despite these problems the game is fantastic, and i have not had such an enjoyable single player experiance for ages. if the sound problems are sorted in a patch this will be an excellent game. it is clear the PC version is a rushed port of the playstation/xbox versions and sadly it shows.

I feel sorry for Shiny entertaiment, and the creators of the matrix, this game is such a disappointment.

Don't buy this game, it is horrible, I think the programers didn't have enough time to create it.

1. Bad graphics.
2. Lack of imagination (maps).
3. Very short game (you can finish it in 5 hours)
4. Fighting with weapons is just imposible!

Too bad they never finished debugging it

I just purchased the PC version of the game (3 days after it came out). Everything you have heard is true. The music is great, the cut scenes are engaging, the graphics are wonderful and "focus mode" (know to Max Payne players as "bullet time") is just flat out fun. Flying through the air to kick your enemy in the head in as bullets whiz all around you in slow motion (complete with visible air turbulance) is every bit as much fun as you thought it would be. The hacking is a neat ddition as well, though I haven't gotten too far into that yet. (Note: You will need a very basic familiarity with DOS or some other CLI to play around with the hacking).

The problem is, the game is not ready for primetime quite yet. Most of the problems have to do with the use of the mouse and the mouse control is squirelly at best. I have died hundreds of times just trying to get my character to turn around. The mouse seems to always be over or under sensitive, never quite allowing you to do what you need to do. It gets so frustrating at times that I just have to quit and walk away. Game controls should not be something you have to think about, much less struggle with. Hopefully the first patch will fix this.

And God help you if you approach a wall. Your character can be under intense fire while running near a wall and suddenly decide to "hug" the wall. This basically converts he/she to your standard target ("hey, I'm getting shot up left and right, but at least I have cover!"). Similarly, you can be in the middle of a fire fight and the character will drop into "hand to hand mode". Unless you have focus time left, you will then faced with the rather interesting challenge of taking on a ton of bullets hand to hand (hint: bullets have no hands, you loose).

And the menus! How in the world did these menus get past QA? They work from the keyboard, but using the mouse to click on an option is an adventure in the world of random results. The mouse controls are so touchy that just one brief (and I mean very brief) click is enough to select the option you want, plus the options in the same positions from the next 2 menus that pop up menus. Because of this, I can click on quit and actually find the game reloading my last save and picking up where I left off!. All of this is solved by using the keyboard for menus, but its very annoying when you forget.

To sum up, Enter the Matrix is a good PC game that badly needs its first patch. These flaws do not keep me from playing and enjoying the game, but I will be so much happier when they are resolved

great excuse to upgrade your video card... not much else

The fighting scenes and combination of moves are great and the visuals & audio are consistent with the Matrix franchise. Of course, I had to upgrade my video card to know that.

The action of this game is often interrupted by the "story" with breaks and action scenes that you, as a player, do not control.

The point of view has a difficult time keeping a decent perspective on the action. If you your fighting and move near a wall, be prepared to have a screen full of wall in your face as you listen to the action going on out of view. It seems like the camera moves to get a good angle on the action and not to keep the player's point of view clear of obstructions.

Driving in the Matrix is awkward at best and is perhaps the biggest let down of the game. Other cars start to wobble up and off the road infront of you and police cars zip around so uncontrollably they often flip onto their hoods.

When driving as Niobe, the controls are not very responsive. When riding shotgun as Ghost, you get the impression Niobe is driving just as bad as the cops trying to chase you. Besides getting shot to death and banged up by cop cars crashing into you, another peril with which to contend is planting your car halfway into a wall. I had this happen a couple of times where I couldn't move forward or back and was stuck in the middle of what was supposed to be a solid structure. Of course, no one could hurt me in the stuck position, but I had to quit the game and start over.

To fix the camera angle problems and enhance the driving experience, these developers need to learn lessons from the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

The game is fun and the graphic's are good the sound is the best thing about this game, I have never played a game with better sound effects and the music is good too. I only needed one patch for the game, it was for the HD sound engin, it worked well after. The levels are cool, but the driving levels suck, no replay vaule for them. The cheats are cool. The game was only $2o when I bought it it is worth that at least. The Fighting moves are cool.the extra flim footage is ok nothing you could not enjoy the matrix with out.

almost a waste of money

pros:
-cool moves
-have some deleted scenes of the movie
-use "Hacking", to get more features(such as getting new messages)
cons:
-a waste of space!4 cds, 4 GBS!
- the controlls are complex
- the mouse sensitivty are different ( the speed of selecting sometime is different from viewing and sniping)
- the graphic sucks and everything is all dark
-sometime the game froze at the menu

i play alot of games and when i read about how EtM sucks, i thought, how bad can it be? well its the worst i hav ever seen.
its almost a rip off of the game "Max payne". if you get a chance to buy this game, PASS ON THAT!
