This game is nothing short of revolutionary.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

I've never been a big fan of the first-person 3D genre in computer games. Most (if not all) of them have been just sadistic slaughterfests. But I always felt the format had potential. "Half-Life" reaches that potential.

I think "Half-Life" is the first multimedia product that truly deserves the term "interactive movie." While most game publishers are content with churning out "Quake" and "Doom" clones, and are more interested in putting rocket launchers and special effects into games than story, "Half-Life" is nothing short of revolutionary. That's the only way to describe it. It puts you in the middle of a terrifying environment, and forces you to use your wits (not your fists) to get out. The monsters are unlike anything I've ever seen, and you really feel like you're in a real environment that lives and breathes. The story is also excellent. The creators wisely replaced movies and static cutscenes with interactive segments that you can participate in. The effect is like living a horror movie.

I hope other computer game-makers see "Half-Life" and realize that this is what gamers expect. It sets a standard that others will have to live up to from now on.

Half-Life is simply UNBELIEVABLE. This game will keep you at your PC for weeks and months. The AI is unchallenged by any other game, and the realism is amaizing. I bet the first time you play it you would not even believe the realism.

I purchased Half-Life in June of '99. I played it for about 5 minutes and I instantly knew I was hooked. The graphics are superb. The AI is absolutely phenomenal. I have never played a game where I felt like they WERE out to get me. You are not treated great in this game, if you can't defend yourself, you will not survive. This is the best game EVER created .

The only bad thing about this game is that it will destroy the fun from every game you will ever play again. Every game that I have played since will always be compared to this. It is the Michael Jordon and Tigger Woods of PC games.

Half-Life is simply stunning, the sound is great, the scripting ...great,

It's the first 'Doom' clone to actually take a step forward!! A must buy for anyone who owns a computer and a decent 3D card!!

It made me feel like I was actually walking around the research lab, and I felt like I was actually fighting aliens. Even with my 120 MHz computer, and withought a 3D accelerator. I would put this in my top 3 (out of around 50 I have at home) favorite computer games.

Best game ever made!!!

Truly this is a game of all games to date. My palms where sweaty my heart racing.... wondering what was around the next corner. The AI is awsome... the graphics so life like. I was truly engulfed in this game. I must admit there were times during the game that would give me chills or I would even jump out of my seat. Well done Valve. Cant wait for the Half-life 2.

Half-Life should have a half life of a million years...

The game develops like a well writen novel and the characters are expanded on. The weapons are realistic and the monsters' intelligence is truly frightening. Using a 3D accelerator the game takes your breath away. The individual scientists are moody and helpful as are the security guards that are trying to survive in a complex web of treachery and deceit. Most definitely one of my favourite games... well... ever. BUY IT DAMN IT!
